question about upgrades :S

its more of a how would i question :P, so say i have a random sword of defence with +5 armour and i want it to have zealous sword hilt which gives +1 energy on hit -1 energy regen so i use the sword hilt with it and thus in theory i would lose the +5 armour mod,and gain the zealous but i have seen swords with both +5 armour and zealous, how would i achieve this? thanks in advance

I'm guessing you'll have to find a pomel with the +5 armor. I know staves have both armor and health upgrade in wrapping and head form.

so if i had a random zealous sword and used a +5 armour pomel on it, i wouldnt lose the zealous?

+5 armor upgrade for swords is a pommel only, zealous is a hilt only, so u can upgrade it and not lose ur + 5 armor
