The Phoenix. Got one?
A State Alchemist
Hi everyone, i was wonder if anyone out there who has a phoenix would mind screen-shotting it so i can see what it looks like, me and several friends have been curious (were working through the cantha story just to get one). Heres a TYVM ahead of time.

If you want to see one firsthand before you complete the game...feel free to whisper Fate of Nations if I'm online and I'll show you what it looks like...it's really quite a magnificant bird
He kicks ass too, btw

i have to disagree... it looks like some blind guy painted a chicken and put some horns on it.
They did a good job with the celestial phoenix at the mission with closer to the star.. why didn't they use a simlar model to that? : (

Because it's based on a real bird and not a mythical one? Sounds right to me.

Have to agree with prodigy ming, it's a flying multicoloured chicken
Plus you'll have to train it as it's only LvL 5 which seems a bit daft for an end game pet when the Black Moa's already at 20.

Two Words: Pet Evolution.
I'd rather have a level 5 Phoenix that i can train myself than being stuck with a Black Moa that won't see any change. It's basically the same as with "Green Items" versus "Modable items".

Err didnt I say he'd have to train it???, just didnt want him thinking it's already at a higher level than 5 as it's at the end of the game thats all.
Prefer my Spider anyway, and I got it the proper way and not being lazy via some capping service

Message me in game if you want to see one close up.
Some people don't like them, but I am rather fond of mine.
A couple of notes. The phoenix you can capture is no where near as big as the monsters that sit next to the Emperor, and they do not grow at all as you level them.
As a previous poster pointed out, they are only lvl 5 when you cap them.

So i simply stated why it is Level 5 and not Level 20 and why it is NOT daft that it is this way.

I wish they'd turn down the "fidgit" rate on the phoenix. It looks a bit dumb flapping here, flapping there, when your character is standind still.
The other pets just pace around which seems fine for a bored tiger (I also love how the cranes catch the odd fish, even standing on magma). The phoenix, and future flying pets, should land and just look around/preen until you start moving again. easyg
At first I thought the Phoenix was pretty cool looking. Then it sort of got uglier and uglier the more I looked at it. The tail is just terrible. Literally looks like the Phoenix has a feather duster stuck to his butt.
I also recommend the Black Moa. Comes 20th lvl and is already Dire if I'm not mistaken. Almost everyone who trains a pet wants it to be Dire. So what's not to like about the Black Moa? Plus it comes decked out in a spiked colar and stuff like the mascot of an S&M club. dr1zz one
^^ i dont think the black moa has been proven to be dire.
Dante the Warlord
Phoenix is awesome...but what is its type of damage?

I got that bird for my Ele just for kicks. I wouldn't be caught dead running around with one of those as my Ranger. He got himself a nice Dire White Tiger.

I just got my phoenix to lvl 11 and it didn't evolve. Is this normal? I'm levelling it solo too with a beastmastery skillbar to maximize its damage output.

It's very losely based on the description of the Chinese phoenix, not the fiery version. After all, it's in factions which is a land based on eastern culture.
but here's a link to the guild wiki page about it: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Phoenix_%28pet%29 DarklingKiller
I got a lvl 20 dire phoenix. I just death lvled it until lvl 15, capped it, then lvled it normally.
hasta
isn't the size of a dire phoenix bigger than a 'normal' phoenix?
cuz i got a dire one and it didnt grow : ( *dissapointed* Moa Bird Cultist
I got myself one about a year ago. Animation's choppy, but the design is really stand-out. Mine's dire - Enraged Lunge leveling ftw and far more entertaining than death leveling, imo. But as I said, the animation is the worst thing about the phoenix, easily.
EDIT: Just thought I'd clear a few things up. 1: Phoenixes, as has been previously mentioned, do not grow when they level/evolve. This is a common misconception caused by the large non-charmable phoenixes that stand next to the emperor.. 2: Black Moas are basically proven to be exclusively "Elder" type evolution, as evidenced by their 480 health. Dire pets @ l20 have 420, Hearty have 540. 3: The phoenix is heavily based on the Feng-Huang, (Chinese Phoenix,) which is detailed in the following wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fenghuang The external link from this page has several images that depict exactly why the guild wars phoenix has a 'feather duster' for a tail. I thought of getting a phoenix for my rit...but reef lurkers FTW
