Hello... as you can see i am a warrior..

I have 15 points in my swordmastery, so how much would I damage if I am using a 8 requirement, 15% always max damage sword? Also how much defense would I have if I am using a 9 requirement sheild with a 9 strength requirement and max defense.

Check behind you again.

1: you would get the same as a req 13 15% sword. Around 24 damage. The lower the req does absolutly nothing. This has been tested by Lasareth I believe.

2: 16 armor. The armor doesn't change no matter what.

The damage also depends on the AL on the opponent.

I thought that the extra attribute points went to extra damage...I even remember seeing a faq on the thing...can anyone else back him up?

The extra attribute points help off-set enemy armour in the damage calculation, although at diminished returns after 12. The people here are giving you the before armour damage (after all, armour could be anything) and so this effect has not been considered. Extra attributes also increase the probability of a critical.
Off the top of my head, 12 att means stated damage vs a 60AL foe, and every level over 12 gives +3AL to that number, giving you stated damage vs a 69AL foe.

This question keeps coming up over and over again!

Read the FAQs. It is a STICKY for a reason.

Weapon requirement works as follows:

1. If you meet or exceed the requirement, you will deal damage within the range listed.

2. If you do not meet the requirement, you will deal damage within a range not specified (though very similar to a 'starter' weapon).

Also note that your attribute has a passive effect on damage and the likelihood of critical hits (and thus more damage) independent of the weapon requirement. The requirement sets the 'base' damage range the game uses, which is then modified by the passive effect to reach the final damage actually dealt.

As for the difference between swords and axes ... a max damage sword and a max damage axe should, over time, deal roughly the same average damage. Ignoring criticals and other modifying variables, a max damage sword has an average damage of 18.5, while a max damage axe averages 17 (using simple math, not sure if those figures are 100% correct within the game engine). The axe has a larger variation, and thus an axe deals more damage on a critical hit. As you correctly pointed out, though, one of the biggest differences is in the skills available and the effects of those skills.

Think about this, though ... we know that a higher attribute score makes criticals hits more likely. So when comparing damage output between an axe and a sword, at low attribute values the difference is probably negligable. But at higher values the axe will probably be dealing more damage because of the more frequent critical hits. Also, an axe works better with Wild Blow than a sword does (because of the higher critical on an axe).

There's a lot to think about when it comes to deciding which weapon to use .

Low req weapons do not do anything besides provide more flexibility. A warrior with 12 in Sword Mastery with a req 7 15-22dmg sword will do the same samage as a warrior with 12 in Sword Mastery with a req 13 15-22dmg sword.

Wrong.

If your Sword Mastery is set at 12, then:
with a Req 7 15-22 dmg, the weapon will produce 15-22 dmg.
with a Req 13 15-22 dmg, the weapon will produce starter weapon damage (5-7 dmg).

Actually, that warrior with 12 in sword mastery wouldn't do 15-22 damage with a req 13 sword, as he doesn't meet the req
