I did try to research these topics before I asked, but I am still lost.
First, I am a little confused about how characters and items transfer between game releases. I know that you can bring your characters forward from prophecies to factions, however I dont know if you start over at the lowest skill level or if you can bring your experience, items, money, and pets across with you.
What is confusing me is that I bought Factions for $50, when I could have bought Prophecies for half that price, and from what I have seen, it seems like prophecies has much cooler stuff. Pets for one example. It seems like 80% of the available pets are found in the prophecies game.
I would have expected my Factions "expansion" to come with the earlier version, but if it did I don't know how to access it. I'm angry with the guy at Best Buy for convincing me that I needed to buy the new one.
So, if prophecies has a ton of cool stuff that factions dont, AND i can bring it all forward, the real question is.....can I take my Factions character backward to prophecies if I buy it, play that one, and then bring him back to this game.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm very confused about how the whole game idea works from a technical standpoint.
Thanks

If you own both games, then yes, you can bring a PvE character back or forward to the other game from either Lion's Arch (Prophecies) or Kaineng Center (Factions).
And also, Factions is not meant to be an expansion pack, but merely another game on its own. You do not need to own Prophecies to be able to play Factions.

Prophecies and Factions are both stand-alone. Prophecies content is unavailable if you only have Factions; you need to own keys to both.
The worlds in both are linked, however, so after a certain point in the game you *can* take Prophecies characters to Cantha (the world of Factions) and you can take Factions characters to Tyria (the world of Prophecies). They travel between the two land masses by boat ^_^ Naturally they keep everything they have (including levels and skills and all that).

Gonna add a bit more insight in some different wording.
Do as previously stated to link your accounts. Once you've done so, you can travel with any of your PvE chars freely to and from both continents as long as you have either Lion's Arch or Kaineng Center on that character's map. You just do a short quest from either Firstwatch Sergio in LA (Tyria to Cantha) or some person who I forget in Kaineng Center (Cantha to Tyria). The character will keep everything, items, skills, armor, money, etc. and have access to the content of the other game EXCEPT for the 15-attribute point quests. Those are specific to the continent the character was created on.
Kaineng Center is a high-level Factions area so you will find level 20 enemies there, fitting for your Tyrian-born character. Lion's Arch, as you know, isn't quite at that level but is still the most logical place to have a Canthan character land.

Thanks to everyone for the help. Two final questions: I have seen people selling extra account keys for game gold durring play. Is this a wise option, and if so, is it likely I could find someone to sell me their old prophecies game key? And if not, what is the easiest way to purchase the prophecies game or key....download game and key (where?) or buy game at retailer? Any difference in price or benifit that anyone knows of.
AND p.s. does anyone agree with me that prophecies seems to have some more interesting animals?

ONE FINAL QUESTION, I promise. and thanks to everyone so far.
Believe it or not, my wife wants to try to play the game with me. Since I already own the Factions game.... is it possible to legally buy an extra key for her to play at the same time i do without having to purchase the game a second time?????

If your wife want's to play you have 2 options:
1. Buy a copy at a store (which comes with the CD's, manual's, etc)
2. Go to www.plaync.com and purchase a CD-Key via the online store there.
Just note, if you shop around option #1 will likely be cheaper than option #2, but option #2 is easier and more convenient than shopping around.
Also, if you weren't aware - the game can be installed from the CD's on as many computer's as you want. The only thing that gets attached to an account is the Cd-Key - you could install GW on 10 different computer's with your CD's but only use 1 of them to log into your account, with the other's used for other ppl's accounts... and this would be 100% legal.

Kook~NBK~
Buying key = buying game, practically speaking. And yes, it's perfectly OK to buy your wife a copy of the game. LOL
To play together, you'll have to have seperate accounts of the same chapter.
