So I'm just getting around to doing the quests in the city and I've been able to get to the Foreign and Local quarters. I've found several other areas, but they're gated off. Aside from completing the crazy swarming of the Afflicted in Vizunah Square is there a way to get those gates open?

Thanks again gurus.

you need to go farther in the story line, you can get into places like xeng skyway after you get warped to senji's corner

Yeah Anet added in the locked gate thing to prevent people from doing what they did in Prophecies and skipping half the missions to get skills from skill traders later in the game.

As an example, I've seen people being run from Ascalon City to Sanctum Cay. In Factions, Sanctum Cay would be locked because you haven't gotten far enough in the story.

The only way to get rid of the locked gate is to get far enough in the story to do the quest related to that gate. You'll generally have to bring along Togo or Mhenlo who will then order the guard to stand aside for you. So just continue with the story. After all, Vizunah Square isn't THAT hard. Just get some halfway competent players and you'll be fine. Just hope you aren't teamed with henchies.

I personally liked the running concept. it made the game similar to teh real life economy, if u are rich you CAN get things faster.

The running concept had pluses and minuses. Plus was you could get end game gear very early in the game, the minus though was you could take that gear, and elites from that area, into the newbie arenas, giving you an unfair advantage over those who didn't get run.
