Ok, so i have been playing guild wars on my comp which has 256mb of RAM, which is very very very slow, so some of the outposts can take up to 4 minutes to load ! So i have decided to buy some more RAM for my computer. First i want to know wether i should just upgrade to 512, or go all the way to 1gig. Also, i heard from people that different comps take different types of RAM. I am not sure if this is true, but if it is could som1 pls tell me how to figure out wat type of RAM my computer needs?

Thanks for all the help in advanced!

Going with the information you have posted, I can't really help you find which RAM is needed.

Is your computer a branded machine? Dell, HP, Gateway, and etc.? If so, what is the model number, we can go from there.

You can go to 1GB if you would like, but really depends on how many slots you have left. Best thing to do if you have only 2 slots is leave that 256MB (Give that it is 1x 256MB and not 2x 128MB chips) and add a 512 to give you 768MB.

But get back to us with a model number or more information in regards of your computer and we can go from there

With that information, your computer can go all the way up to 4.0GB of Memory. Also states that you have 4 memory slots with 3 available.

Your computer also uses DDR333 (PC2700) or DDR400 (PC3200)

With 1 slot taken by a 256MB, you can go with any configuration. Check your budget and shop at Newegg, Pricegrabber, and etc. See which you can afford and go for it. Stick with brands such as Corsair, Kingston, Crucial and the likes.

I would suggest buying the Kingston memory from the Dell site (only type which will not void your warrantee I believe). Also, I have just upgraded from 512mb to 1gb, for me, GW has been running much smoother. I believe a 512mb stick is around $30, dont trust me on it.
