R/Me

I'm thinking about making a good build for PvP and I just want to know if anyone can help me with this one. It's basically my first build so any constructive criticism would be great =).

Lvl.20 Ranger/Mesmer
Attributes
Expertise:7
Wilderness Survival:6
Marksmanship:12
Inspiration Magic:6
Skills
1.Troll Unguent
2.Apply Poison
3.Imagined Burden
4.Hunter's Shot
5.Signet of Midnight
6.Spirit of Failure
7.Spirit Shackles
8.Antidote Signet

Note:I'm thinking of using this with Druid's Armor. Is that a good idea?
Thank you for your help .

Well, good start with going with druids armor. After that, not so good.

Turn your focus away from trying to shutdown melee attackers with mes skills on a ranger primary. A R/Me in pvp can be a great addition to a team but not in the way you want to use it.

Not only are the skills not very effective, but four of them have long and very interruptable cast times. And you will run into energy management issues as well. Anti sig will help as far as conditions when you don't have a team member who is taking them off, but it's not a very good counter to SoM's blind drawback.

Honestly, I'd scrap this build and go back to the drawing board. Use a mes skill or two to compliment a ranger build. You should have one or two goals and make sure everything about the build is focused on achieving those goals. Try to stick with 3 attributes, but there are times when 4 atts can be useful too. Not a lot of times, but sometimes.

And don't be afraid to change up stuff if it isn't working.

Less mesmer skills and more ranger skills in your bar would probably be a move in the right direction. Too many spells/signets can make a ranger build very energy heavy. The Sig of Midnight/Antidote Sig combo is interesting, but could be dangerous since Antidote Sig is relatively easy to interupt. If you want a blinding skill that can be used more often than 45 seconds (recharge time for Throw Dirt), I would suggest an Oath Shot/Throw Dirt combo. It is not as spammable since you are limited to blind every 25 seconds instead of every 15 seconds, but it's a bit safer and you can also get the bonus of skill recharge for your other skills also. Just watch your enemies and don't use Oath Shot on anyone who uses evasive/blocking skills.

You have what looks to be an interesting start for a mesmer build, but crossing that many mesmer skills into a profession with only 3 pips of energy regen and no fast casting or inherent energy management ability for spells is pretty tough to pull off.

What you have looks a lot like a modified version of a Cripple Shot ranger with several mesmer skills replacing ranger ones. In both your build there is a skill to blind, to slow enemies, cause poison and bleeding. If you like this style of build, you may want to try a cripple shot build (cripple shot, apply poison, hunter's shot, interupt, defensive/running stance, and troll is generally what the build consists of) just for kicks. You may find ways to do what you wish using ranger skills that can be effected by your Expertise.

If you decide you really like your build and only want to give it a minor tweak then I would definately reccomend dropping Imagined Burden for Pin Down. It has half the recharge time, will be lessened in energy cost by Expertise, and will cause a longer slowdown since you have 12 attributes in Marks that will help it as opposed to the 0 in illusion.

^ You have to realize that when you use Secondary mesmer skills, there needs to be a reason to use them over using them with a primary mesmer. If you have too many spells or skills from your secondary... Honestly, you might as well be a mesmer. On the other hand, if you use a skill or two from your secondary to compliment your primary, you might be on to something there. So I'd second the comments you've recieved in saying you need to tweak things abit. More Ranger skills, less Mesmer SPELLS.
