I agree with those above, except I would add this. Find a good guild. They are out there. Many do mass recruiting, I would be careful with those. Avoid any that have `fee` requirements, either to join or to stay a member. I would recommend one that has a behavior requirement. It tends to keep the jerks and freeloaders out.
Until you join a guild, don`t hesitate to ask for assistance while in towns, don`t bother to offer to pay. If there is a helpful person there they will answer, members of my guild certainly do. Specifically ask if you can farm with people. As long as they know what you are along for most people that I know who help people do not mind spending the time.
Tell your friend that he/she will have plenty of time to establish a guild later and that the experience of being in a guild will be well worth it.
Hope this helps...oh and did I say that if you want gold...farm, farm, farm!!! And switch around your skills while you`re farming to work on your build.
