Character to Unlock All Skills (UAS)
Gafgarion
Heya =)
Lately I have spent considerable time thinking about which class I should choose to Unlock All Skills (UAS), and to be honest I can't really decide. I have played every class, but unfortunately I can't consider myself an expert at any of them.
I do have enough time to play but it's mildly annoying to have multiple characters and always be missing skills from one class or another to try out new builds. For this reason I'd like some insight as to what class I could choose to play, based on versatility, farming/solo options, acceptance into groups, and the ability to do well inside restricted areas (UW,FoW) and elite missions, as well as PvP (though this is a completely different field, and I could use a PvP slot for that, I'd like a PvE character that could be enjoyed in this field as well). TBH, Racthoh's and the other warrior geniuses' guides inspire me to make a warrior, but I'm really not sure yet... damn you all, if you see this thread!
I've read the thread a few below mine asking about which class to choose, but couldn't get the exact info I needed, so I decided to make this one.
Any an all input is well appreciated =)

Like you, Ive done a similar thing with my account, played all the professions, but now want something I can focus on, mine may not be the best choice (mesmer) judging from other forums regarding mesmer acceptance, however, I have not found this to be a problem, soloing seems like a good option, PVP will definitely be an option, and to be honest, out of all the characters, I'm having the most fun with this one.
I guess you need to answer a few questions like style of play, caster or melee preference etc, however I'm sure there will be some constructive input shortly

Assign numbers 1-8 to each class. Then call your best mate on the phone and ask them to pick a number between 1 and 8. Use that class to UAS.
Seriously, if you've played every class and you don't have a favorite, then it makes no difference. Use whatever.

Well the problem is I don't particulary DISLIKE any class, but doing some more reading and playing a little more, I found myself ruling out a couple of classes:
Elementalist (my 1st character ever), Monk and Mesmer. Assassin maybe a 4th.
I had boatloads of fun playing those 3, and I still keep my monk for playing 55 with guildies when me or them need cash or ecto. However, I found myself playing Ele and Mes mostly in pvp, and frankly I don't like the role of nuking much.
Mesmer, however fun it was, doesn't really feel like it suits my playstyle.
As for Assassin, I just find it annoying to hit and run. I even managed to score a Survivor title on this char, but even though it has a very high firepower, I find it just too fragile for a "front-line" character. Its soloing abilities are not as developed as other classes such as Warrior, Ranger or Monks in my view, either (I could be wrong - please correct me here).

You need about 9 million xp for UAS... so you'd need a class you're comfortable elite hunting, missioning, farming and so on with. Of the four remaining (ranger, necro, warrior and rit), all have fow/uw/solo capabilities, so it's down to preference as all are possible to UAS with.
Racthoh
From what I've seen Dahnel's vermin video, and other vermin guides, using a Berserker Scroll (the 300% exp one) as a ritualist is probably fastest and easiest to do. It reminds me of the old way to farm griffons, all of those numbers appearing on the screen made the game really fun.

Sorry, really stupid question here, but UAS?

Ah, thanks. I wound up doing that on my main account just by having a variety of charcters. On each character I always got their primary elites and all skills for their primary through normal pve play.
I suppose you could go through doing it with just one character, just doesn't seem as fun.
As for your question to which class. Monk is definately your best bet for acceptance and versatility. Although necros don't generally have a problem either. Ranger is fun to play and very versatile, but can have problems getting into some groups in certain areas. I would say those are your three best bets.

I'd have to go with warrior. His +40 armor, along with shield
bonus', and damage absorption makes him very durable.
Coupling that with the ability to change secondarys at will
just allows him to endure in almost any situation.

Id say UAS with Necro.....very versatile profession.

I would not chose monk, I have 2.5 mill exp on mine and wont touch it again except to help guildies. It gets old staring at red health bars 24/7, its nice to take part in the dammage dealing. I think I like my ranger the best.

Right now I'm stuck between Warrior, Ranger, Necro and Ritualist.
The last two seem like a nice choice, but the Rt seems somewhat limited for diverse builds. I still have a limited experience into Factions, but all I see around are Rts playing some sort of recovery role or spamming spirits.
As for the necro, I can see some more diversity, but not much of soloing capabilities except the 55 build with SS. (Forgive me if I'm babbling nonsense, Necro is one of the classes I have the elast experience with)
Warriors on the other hand, don't look like they could make much use of a variety of skills for their limited energy pool and regen (yes I know there are numerous ways to circumvent this, but I'm just making a point about the limited energy).
Rangers are looking pretty good right now, with many ways to be played, be it as an interrupter, spiker, runner or trapper.
I think what I'm looking for is a class that can make use of the highest possible number of skills present in the game, as well as make chest runs, have a decent number of farming spots, and decent acceptance inside restricted areas. I don't think I'll be worrying about PvP too much, since every class has their place in that environment.

Ritualists are becoming tough to get into groups. When solo you mean solo where? Rits are good soloers and Necros also can do very well at soloing. If you are talking about UW, then the necro doesn't solo so much as be the second person of the 55/SS/SV team, you get plenty of farming out of a necro. Also very welcome just about everywhere because of SS, MM, blood support and spiking.
Rits can make decent MMs, healers, very good protectors with rit lord and offensive abilities. They seem to suffer from the jack of all trades syndrome however.

A side not: they should make a UAS title.
good luck with picking your UAS character. But as other said, just pick the one that you are comfortable with.
Ask yourself
which character you always click on to play first?
Which one you leave just sitting there while you are afk?
Which character you always use while helping others?
If you think about it then you will know which one you prefer.

I agree with Hephaestus that the warrior would probably be best for UAS. One reason is, to me, the warrior is the easiest to use with henchmen. Why worry about joining groups? Most skills can be capped using all henchies. I capped Eviscerate using all henchies, but Hundred Blades, that would be a different story. lol The most difficult skill I've ever capped was Feast of Corruption--did it with henchies
Gafgarion
Well to suit my playstyle I've narrowed it down to Warrior or Ranger really.
I have noticed I become bored fast with spellcasters, since being in the backline isn't always fun.
What I'm thinking about now is which one of the two is more widely accepted into groups, and which one could make the best use of say, Ritualist and Necro skills. In high end PvE it seems Warriors are beginning to get left out (or are present in too great numbers, making it hard to get a group) in areas such as Urgoz's Warren making space for trappers, and similar situations happen in other places too.
If possible I'd like to get some input from an experienced Ranger and Warrior =)
Thanks to everyone, I really appreciate all of your comments, they've helped me a lot ^^

Just one last question, how the hell do Warriors manage their fissure armor helmets and arms? I mean 3 different weapon choices... 3 different arms ?
I've seen a thread about helms in the Warrior forum... could someone give some input on this ?

Personally I would say Ranger. I just think you can do the most different things on them. Trap, Run, Spike, Interupt. Then, because of expertise if you wanted to you could be an Assassin or a Touchie (but they are hated), etc.

I only have one set of armor. I do have four shields, six hammers,
eight each swords and axes though. Oh.. and five bows which I
don't use, just can't part with them.

I just spread stuff out between my six character and make sacrifices
when I have to if space gets low.

I mean, to improve your ability with a sword for example, putting a superior rune of swordsmanship (or even a minor one) in the arm part. Say for example:
Head: sup abs
Chest: sup vigor
Arm: sup weapon (any of the 3)
Legs: minor tactics
Feet: minor str
It's kinda hard to think up of a pattern to use runes and stay inside your FoW armor without having to switch any pieces (say you wanna go farming trolls with glad defense, you probably want 16 tactics so you'd switch helms or something).
I'd like to know how FoW armor Warriors manage themselves that way =p

Go with W/R or R/W
I think that will be the most versatile for you considering what you have said about some of the classes.

Ah, I see...
It's a little disturbing to think of the amount of ectos and shards to make a full working set but uh... I guess I could live with that.
I've almost decided on the Warrior for the variety of weapons involved (shooting a bow all day long might get boring), but I keep staring at my Ranger too.
Thanks everyone, I'll try to come up with a decision soon. I really appreciated every post on this thread =)

What I'm mostly concerned about is durability in the battlefield when soloing. Rangers often seem to me a little too squishy when compared to Warriors. But I can't determine to what extent that's true >.<!
Ensign
If you are only going to have one character and want to play it into the ground, warrior is the only way to go.
Supreme Commander
well, I've been playing Ranger & Warrior a lot, maybe they just fit together. Maybe because Ranger is an excellent choise when fighting with henchmen. Using interrupts, you can interrupt the spells that frequently kill your henchmen (mostly high-damage spells, mesmers & monks) without losing any attack power. Same is for Mesmer actually, I've gotten very far with henches playing as mesmer, I even made Hell's Precipice with it (a bit of lucky when facing rurik, as he was stuck between two henchwarriors just as he wanted to walk back with the fist of the titans
). Ranger just is very much different things and that's why it's fun for me, I crossed Cantha with my ranger in no-time using different running skills, solo-farming in maguuma jungle with sword & shield on totem axes, interrupting in arena's, soloing fow & many more. Warrior has much different stuff to do too, droknar runs are good profit and there's plenty options of solo farming. Now, warriors are pretty often picked & missions & fow/uw as tanks, in pvp you're having kinda a struggle for a place, unless youre playing iway ofcourse, but thats still iway... Rangers are kinda facing the same problem, though with the rising popularity of choking gas rangers in heroes ascent you have a bit higher chance of finding a nice balanced group. Rangers also dont have the solo capabilities of solo warriors, because the warrior can increase armor by 50-60 or use stances to evade/block, so you can pick either of these depending on the situation. Ranger on the other hand, have only evasive/blocking stances.
so,
great soloing/farming = warrior
do really all kinds of stuff = ranger
my 2 cents bout war & ranger

Hmm I don't really get the reason for the Warrior choice on Ensign's post, but your opinion counts as a valuable one =)
Supreme Commander's as well, thanks for the insight, you actually cleared a lot of my doubts regarding the two classes =)
Really bending towards being a Warrior now o.o
