Scammed of 70 ectos, how could i have been so stupid?

it all started in toa.

[IGN removed by Dralspire] is the scammer, this is what he did.
he said: wtb ectos. i whisped him saying i have 68 for sale. he says, i can show you a glitch in the game wich doubles your ectos (i should have walked away if it wasnt for me being so gullible). i replied saying ok cool, what i have to do. he says, ill show u if you promise to give me 1/4 of the profits.

I agreed, and he took me to Thirsty River. i withdrew my ectos from storage and we entered mission. he got me to stand on top of a funny looking rock.
at this point i was absaloutely confused.

He says, drop your ectos into this rock
when i say '1'. because he was stood a long way away i didnt see a problem in this. he then says, when you drop em, say '2', and i will say '3', pick em back up, we share our riches. those exact words. i know how stupid i was to fall for this pathetic scam, but coz he was stood so far away i saw no harm.

now it struck me.we jumped into a cinematic, which we skipped. my ectos were on the ground, he was running to get them. luckily i noticed what was going on by now, and lured as many mobs as possible to the ghostly hero. fortunatelly, The ghostly died, thus we failed mission. The ectos were still on the ground, and were now wasted. when we got back to outpost i was expecting them to come up under 'unclaimed items' but they didnt for some reason. So, now i must build up my ecto collection from scratch.

For some strange reason i'm at least happy that HE didnt get them. he doesnt deserve them, being a scammer, and i would've felt worse knowing he had his slimy hands on em.
but at the end of the day it was my fault. i fell for this scam, i didnt take screenshots either. oh well, looks like fow armour will have to wait.

Wait... couldn't you have dropped ONE ecto to test it out?!

It should have occured to you that if this glitch actually worked, he could have just exponentially enlarged his own stash of ectos. Why would he possibly need to share your "profits" or buy ectos or even tell you about the dupe? Don't stick your neck out if what you're being told obviously doesn't make sense.

When the cinematic appeared, you must have realised? You can choose when to press skip and get in front.

I wouldnt be so sure if he (not you) was party leader in this mission.... Ectos probably were items without owner, so there is probability he could get them after mission.

As I said, I'm still not sure about this...

The unclaimed items show the drops assigned to you. As the ectos were dropped from your inventory, they're unassigned (not assigned to anyone), so unclaimed items would not have appeared.

I think that's right, if so, then they're gone... returned to the UW.

wasn't a scam, he didn't get anything. He just felt like being an arsehole, and your greed lead you to a problem for yourself...

I never believe people, although what were you exactly thinking that saying 1 2 3 would work? Well either way i hoped you learn not to trust crazy people.

Yes but your greed lead you to wanting to make a profit in the first place.
If this was another game people would be complaining you're exploiting a games BUG to make money.
You were effectively happy to cheat.

If all went ahead - you'd of exploited the game, gave him some money for thanking you to exploiting the game.

He didn't make any money, he didn't scam you out of anything, your stupidity did.

Does the unclaimed item box even pop up if you fail? I was under the impression that it only comes up if you complete the mission, as I've never had it pop up after failures, and when trying for Master's I don't pick up anything.

i made 68 ecto, 105 shards by earning evry penny. Stop making me seem like the bad guy!

But you tried to make more from exploiting a games bug and greed... You clearly don't get the message, or else you wouldn't of came on a forum whining about a so called "scammer" when the only person at fault was you.

Ok buddy its your fault. You were greedy wanted more ectos and also an idiot for beliving him.Really who would be nice enough to come up and tell u a way to get so many ectos if this were true he would have bought an ecto from u and gone and done it alot of times not give u a secret and ask for 1/4

I am going to agree with Elektra on this one...you were breaking the rules just as the so called scammer was, taking advantage of "glitches" or exploits is against the EULA as well as being against the spirit of fair play. I am not saying I wouldn't want to double my ectos, we all probably would, however, when it blows up in your face, you have no one to blame but yourself. At least you learned a valuable lesson...I hope anyways, better luck in the future
