Concept Class: Paladin
jimmyboveto
Ok, so i know this has probably already been suggested before, but here it is...
The paladin would be pretty much a mounted knight, which weilds a mace or javelin, but no shield( hey, u gota hold those reins with somethin, dont ya?). It would be atop a horse, and would have the following attributes
primary: movement- increases skills that deal with the movement of your paladin
spear master-wat do u think this would do?
mace master-wat do u think this would do?
tactics-same as warior, but dealing with different skills
Ok, so some people might just say this is the same as a warrior, but it would be more like a bit weaker warrior with increased movement, and the ability to increase other's movements.
I would really like to know if any1 else thinks this is an ok idea, i havent put very much thought into it yet... cus i dont want to if every1 thinks its a dumb idea.
So wat r ur opinions?
Wat could this class add to Guild Wars?
Well, for one thing, although this isn't usually brought up, GW does have a lack of melee characters, the ratio of melee to ranged is 2-6. Which means only 1/4 of the profesions in guild wars is melee. this would help add to the melee classes, and then i guess after the dervish comes out, we will have another.

k, just saw that this class has been suggested before... but my idea is a bit different then the other person's.

One word. Paragon.
Almost identical to what you sudgest in the aspects of spear and tactics.
Ony thing is mounts and movement.
Mounts are introduced to many MMOs because it takes a really long time to get to anywhere by foot. Mounts will very likely not be introduced into GW because you can instantly appear to any place you have been to before via your map.
Charge ftw.

yah, i suppos you are right, but the mount isn't only for getting around, its also for help on the battle field, for example, possibly your mount could attack at times also? ex: skills- trample, charge...
Knight Othin Of War
i love the idea, but weren't real paladins holy warriors/knights?
it would be cool to be able to have that as a seperate class, or maybe even a class as a knight.
i think he's been thinking about the samaritan knights that used to fight on horses and on foot.

Overall, yes the idea is cool, but there would be too much favor towards it. The idea of having a mount would be very popular and would be too large a difference from the normal classes. You would have to give mounts to every class to be fair.

i agree with long shorts

I wrote a Dragoon and a Templar before... You can look for those if you like.
Dragoon has the Mount and Lance/Spear/Polearm, while Templar has the Aura and Mace. I think they are somewhat different enought from a Warrior.

I dont think that paladins WERE holy warrior. The Templar were though, many moved on to be the Knights of Christ. (history channel, lol)
Knight Othin Of War
many people just say that paladins were knights with magical abilities, not sure if it's true
i personally think they were protectors/guardians that believed that every kill they made brought them 1 step closer to freedom.

it wouldnt really be beast mastery, cus the horse or watever would be pretty much part of the character.
Also, a holy knight would be really cool
, maybe they could have some healilng abilities too

unholy guardian
why don't you have lightsbaer mastery, you seem to like laser gun :P
anyway.. it does need more detail :\

Knight Othin Of War
i would like a holy Knight as a class, then you could be like a real knight that used melee and ranged weapons but then it would cancel out the ranger and warrior classes if you get how i mean.
i do agree with some of the points to make paladin a seperate class but can you explain more about it please

He should have Concentration and Blessed Hammer. That'd be one hell of an AoE character =/
Knight Othin Of War
i hate hammers, why not make a paladin use a great sword or B astard swords

With the W/Mo and D/Mo, the Paladin is pretty much set as unofficially not going to happen IMO. Only way I could see Anet doing a paladin is as a support oriented melee class.
My Take:
Paladin
Armor:
75 base with +10 vs physical
Weapons: 2h swords and axes, 1 h hammer, shield (holy light or Holy Seals req)
Holy Light (Primary) - various enchants and skills which focus holy offensive damage
Examples:
Holy Ward - does x holy damage a second on any foes in area of cast
Holy Weapon - enchants weapon to do +x holy damage
Fear of God - undead target cannot attack for x seconds
Holy Rage - Increases damage given by x, attack speed by 25% for y seconds.
Holy Blast - spell that does x holy damage to target foe.
2 Handed Sword - self explained
1 Handed Hammer - self explained
2 Handed Axe - self explained
Holy Seals - various defensive and healing enchants/skills useable on allies and self.
Examples:
Holy Armor: reduces x damage taken over y seconds.
Holy Wisdom: Gives 2 Energy regen for x seconds to target ally or self.
Blessing: Heals target ally or self for x health.
Baptism: rez ally
Blessing: enchantment - Target ally or self gains x health regen.
Personally, I wish they would just merge 1 and 2 h swords, hammers, and axes into the W's weapons attributes, but ANet has not done so and does it not look like they will. Scythe is basically a polearm and like spears, it has have been done. Any ways, that is my take on a Paladin, more of a support and defense oriented melee class with slow attack speed, W is the heavy melee hitter. D is basically a paladin, so I doubt we will see a Paladin named class. I just want the 1 h hammer, 2 h sword and axe.

I hate the idea, only one good attribute and an identity which is firmly covered by both Warrior and Paragon. Both are armored classes, both use shields, both use shouts and defensive abilities "like tactics" and Paragon is a battle commander who resembles a guardian angel (as well as a Paladin).
This isn't a totaly broken suggestion, just extremely lacking in original identity. I like the idea for a mounted class, but for god sakes come up with something far more original, perhaps resembling Native Americans after they mastered horseback.
P.S. You can hold the riegns with a shield fastened to your arm, as if a skilled mount cannot recognize appropriate directions (expecially in a world where you can charm animals).

Aren't Whammos also called Paladins in one of those pre-made builds?
