In some recent tests Kaspersky would detect 99.9% of viruses and installing two virus scanners can cause conflicts between them, if you try installing some of the more commercial anti-virus software if it detects that you already have one installed it won't let you install the new one till the old one is removed. Doing a weekly Scan and than a monthly online scan should be fine unless you love to download random files and open email attachments from unknows sources.

Although this wouldn't have worked in this case if one computer was involved.

You would need two accounts and two computers to keep yours safe.

or buy him that account (since you said you could)....so if he messes up, its his problem----he will learn what NOT to do (if maybe the hard way).

Unless the 2 AV is conflicted, they can not exclude anyone from installing any other AV, Just like Microsoft cant prevent you from installing any version of Linux.

And it doesn't matter if 1 single AV can detect 99.9% because new virus come out so fast. and about conflict, lots of software do conflict as well, you just need to know does the new software conflict with those already in your system. Not everybody use Kaspersky. Its a general protection to install 2 anti virus. You can install 1 and use the online search, but i prefer to use the offline scanning one. Its about preference.

Thats seems to be Anet's way now. Have some sort of script ban first and sort out the details later.

Why even reply when you obviously didn't read enough to know that the ban was fair.

Scan your registry for "keylogs". Go to your windows start menu. Click "run" and type in the word "regedit". I new window will pop up. At the top left corner click on the the "View" tab. Scroll down to the word find and type in "keylog". Press enter and wait for the result if any.

Search for Spyware. Spybot, Adaware and Hijack This are a few good ones. Make sure to update the program before you scan.

Another thing you can do is perhaps have seperate username/passwords for your family members on your pc with you being the administrator. This way no one else can install or tamper with system settings because only you have adminstrative rights. Would definately stop your kid brother from downloading anything dangerous and installing it onto your system.

Very important safety precaution. If a fake "hack" program stole your guildwars account and password, remember to ask yourself: is my email password the same as my guildwars password? If it is the same, your email account may be compromised, since for most people, their login name is their email address. If your email has been compromised, is there anything in your emails that can lead them to other things? For example, if you received an email from Bank of America, they may know that you have a Bank of America account. Most people use the same login names and passwords for multiple purposes (bank account, instant messaging, etc). I have done this as an experiement with family members before. My brother gave me his password just as an experiment to see what a smart hacker can do after compromising an account. I was able to access his email, AIM, and most importantly Collegeboard (company in charge of SATs and various college admissions stuff). Collegeboard had a lot of private information, especially the financial aid applications, which includes names and social security numbers of the entire household, income information, dates of birth, etc.

So be careful, very very careful. Because most people use the same passwords. So, if someone can get into your guildwars account, they can probably get into your email. Reading your emails allows them to know what other accounts you may have, such as bank accounts or collegeboard. If those passwords are the same, they will be able to figure out everything they need to know about you to steal your identity.

What to do now? If you email account password is different, then I guess the compromise would be limited to the guildwars account. If your email account may be compromised, change the password of every account you have. Go through your emails pretending you are the hacker, and change all those accounts.

according to the experts which i am not if you run 2 antiviruses you will get worse results than a single top rated one.

I'm surprised people are still responding to this thread. Thank you on the security notes. When I couldn't find a virus to fix the problem the only thing left (I'm not the greatest w/ computers and registry editing etc..) so I whip out the manufacturers discs and reset my PC back to manufacterers defaults. It's the only thing I know will erase everything that did not come w/ my PC when it was bought. All my passwords were changed. And as annoyed as I was about my account ban I am greatful someone reported it. I think it got banned quick enough for my items to not have been jacked. So a good thing did come out of it.

Now for the saddest thing I have to report in this thread. The very first day after my account was unblocked I was online and within minutes stumbled upon a district advertising "god mode" download on Thegwplace.com (the same place for those who have been following this thread that got my account stolen adn banned). So I posted a reply to all in that district not to go to it or downlad anything since the "god mode" hack is a keylogger set to steal their passwords. And someone had the nerve to message back in main chat for me to stfu cuz "there are no account theft hacks on that site. it's legit" I took a screenshot and reported it. I reported him to as supporting a site known for compemising account security. Sigh.
Not even an hour online and I already saw an ad for the website. Who knows how many ppl went to it and may have to go through what I went through.

There is no way of knowing if what you say is true but bad bans have happened.

What you have to do is bug anet to get past the (your evil we won't talk to you) so they go hmm maybe he's right (and then they double check there "proof") and see if they made a mistake.

Did you ask is he refering to running 2 antivirus simultanously or 1 after another? By the way, i said running 1 on backgroud and use 2 for manual scan.
