Weekend Event Chest Running Builds Locations
Cherno
Figure this is likely more of a thread to be found in the farming section of the boards, but since it is related specifically to the weekend event, would be nice to see one thread that people could refer to.
Please post some favorite chest run areas and builds.
Currently the most common chest run areas in the City are Raisu Palace and Nahpui Quarter
Raisu Palace requires Forbidden keys to open chests and groups are forming all the time. Forbidden chests do count towards the Treasure Hunter title
Nahpui Quarter uses canthan keys for the Canthan chests. These chests do not count toward the title, but are the only place to get Celestial weapons.
Luxon Side:
I have found that chests located in Maishang Hills, Gayla Hatchery Explorable and Mount Quinkai are relatively easy to run. Use luxon keys naturally. These chests do count toward your title.
Kurzik side:
Ferndale and Melandru's hope have some nice wide open spaces to be able to chest run. Kurzik keys are used and count towards the title. IMO, the kurzik side is a little tougher to run due to the strength of the enemies as well as numerous traps found in the forest. Condition removal is a must for a run in this area.
I think the Luxon side is easier for quick chest runs, but don't personally care for the luxon drops as much as the kurzik.

I have my chest-running path pretty well memorized, and it's in one of the harder areas, so...hopefully it doesn't get overrun anytime soon. Droprates from chests are increasingly purple anyway, everywhere.

As for getting some builds started, off the top of my head on my ranger:
Rangers are pretty easy with evasion.
Storm Chaser
Zojun's Haste and the Tyrian Counterpart
Whirrling Defense can help a lot.
Charge! So that you can maintain speed and evasion at the same time.
For all professions, one thing I found very effecting when trying to run in and grab a chest since I primarily use the keyboard and not mouse:
When you are within range of a chest, select it and press the space bar. You will run diretly to the chest and the message box will pop up asking if you want to open it. You can just press the space bar and it will default to the yes.
Slightly strafe while the item is dropping out, then use ";" and space to pick it up and get out.

So in regards to chests. If more people are opening chests, more purples will drop? Has this been proven? Basically, if this weekend is the double drop rate for rare/gold items in Cantha and MORE people will do chest runs...then it would just stay about the same as before or even worst. More people = More purples, but that is being off-set by double drop rate of Rares, which brings us back to where it was BEFORE the double drop rate. That can't be right..?

; is the command for pick up items near you or something? If it is, then thank you for the info!!
I do the same thing as you do, run in with spacebar but I also click yes with spacebar. Usually mashing the spacebar when I am in Raisu since they place chests where the mobs are, hehe.

Well i still think that after last chest nerf chest just arent worth of opening ( unles u get a key from a mob ). This keys r just another useless money sink ( ok i like forbidden chests and FoW chest .. but its usualy just crap u get with ton of purples.. )
Priceykins
yup its intended behavior.
Canthan keys only cost 450g, to count toward your title, they need to cost 600+g, aka be a high end chest.
so in cantha, luxon, kurz, forbidden, deep jade and stoneroot chests all count towards the title.
Personally though, to work towards your title, whitmans is the easyiest run by far,, and the drops arent to bad either/

Yes ; is the key to target nearest item or nearest drop that is assigned to you. It was an update a number of months back. When first implemented, it would target any drop nearest you, not just ones assigned to you, which kinda sucked. Somewhere that change was made and it makes it so much easier for us keyboard users.
Xenrath
It hasn't even started yet and already people formulating how to farm it to death. Come on Anet, how about more events which aren't about farming, or just rename it Farm Wars, let players get up to level 20 and necessary skills in a few hours and let them loose in specially designed farming areas. Oh wait...
chessyang
oh i get it. when you kill stuff keys will fall 10x (or whatever) as before.
for those of you running Imperial Sanctum.
Loop = the small clift near the start to the right.
DE = Dead end.
Raisu = The way end of the map. It looks like the start of the misson for "Raisu Palace "
Assassin boss = should be the first boss you encounter
Dead chest or Monk boss = along the port. second boss you should encounter. **hard chest to get** only seen a few solo players live.
Kai = still glitch atm. he's the warrior boss and should be alone
Ranger = um the room up the stairs after the warrior and elementaly bosses. he's smack in the middle
necor and mess bosses = chest seem to spawn more at the necor boss then mess. mess would be on your right. (east side have to check again)
running w/a can make every chest but monk/dead chest
never run recall or a pet. everyone seems to hate you if you do.
above all BE READYbefore joining a chest run

I've already asked this in another thread but know one seemed to answer so I'm going to ask again...
How many keys should I bring for each chest run? Since its called a chest run, do I need to pay someone to go? (like you have to with normal runs)
Sorry if these are noobish questions, but I've never looked into chest running before now...

Unless your doing an FoW chest run, no you do not have to pay. I generally start off with 10 keys, however u can bring 5 and be fine. 3 is the lowest i would take.

Oh and another question, I would have to bring a running build, right? So it would probably be best to bring a W/R or something for running skills, right?
milias
Yea, I think 5 is fine, since you take turns testing chests anyway, so that if the chest is purple, you don't have to waste a key on it.
P.S. Just an FYI, if the chest is gold for the first person who opens it, it'll be gold for everyone else.

I'm going to wait until initial reports are in, they said double last time and nothing changed.
Sir Skullcrasher
So would all the chests across Cantha location have double-rare drop? And what are the chance of getting something good from like a Shing Jea Chest?
Cherno
It did change, just not at the beginning, there was an update later that day that fixed it.
It is called a chest "run" because you bring your character with primarily running and defensive/survival skills instead of fighting. You don't pay others to open chests for you as that wouldn't really do any good. You would still have to get to the chest yourself to open it with all the enemies in the way.

a) if your going for the whole weekend then it doesn't mattter. 250 or 5 keys.
b) if your going to run Kuz side for 10 mins then swap to Lux and repeat. i would say 10 of each.
c) if your going to run (not fight) a misson then 3
IMO --> just buy 10 keys.. open 10 chest.. if you feel lucky get 10 more and repeat. Trying to say do as many as you feel
2) no (and never) do you need to pay anyone. your not running the FOW are you? don't think FOW chest running was part of the plan this weekend. just Cantha areas.
a) you could pay someone to learn the path or spots but it's better and fun to just join up and look and learn.

Oh and thank you everyone for answering my questions!
I think I am ready to do some chest running this weekend, if I can get my warrior or ranger to Raisu Palace in time, since that is one of the top chest areas (according to the OP) and it is farther than Nahpui Quarter (from my understanding, you have a higher change of getting better/max items farther in the game. Am I correct on this? Plus there seems to always be chest groups forming there.)
Cherno
Raisu or more specifically launching from Imperial Sanctum is the very end of the game. You will need to get all the way through one side of the factions, either Kurzik or Luxon, to be able to get there.
Honestly, unless there is something you are specifically going for in those currently popular places, Celestials in Nahpui, or whatever in Raisu, I would avoid them. For someone very new to chest running, there can be quite a bit of elitism in those spots. I will bet that there will be a number of threads on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from the pro runners complaining about the n00b players invading their space and screwing up their runs.
I think the best way to break into those areas is to ask a guildie or even someone on the forums to teach you the ropes for that area a bit before taking them on and joining random groups.
Once you get past the city (Luxon or Kurzik territories) you should be able to get max dmg drops when gold from the chests without a problem. You can also get perfect mods in those areas. From that point on in the game, it just really depends on which skins you get in which area.

Gamecube187 - you have to pay for FoW chest run because it costs the party to enter the FoW in the first place Also there are a few running builds, I have used a W/R and W/Mo before, am sure the builds page will have more details for you too look at.
Beaten to it!

I'm going to run Raisu and Nahpui just to annoy the "elit" "pro" noobs LOL
Sir Skullcrasher
I'm going to run away the outside Market Place area to do chests farming!

What no one seems to be mentioning is the fact that town-holding alliances get their keys cheaper from the merchant in the exclusive area who offers a 20% discount on all item prices. If you are in a town-holding alliance (or manage to join one for the weekend) you could make great inroads towards your chest-opening title this weekend at less cost than usual.
If you're into doing solo chest runs (as opposed to full-party ones that start off from Imperial Sanctum or Nahpui Quarter) I highly recommend the scouting quest outside of Breaker Hollow in Mount Quinkai. You get 2000 XP + 400 Luxon faction + 150 gold for about a 10 minute investment while looking for chests in arguably the easiest part of Cantha to run. Granted, you won't have the benefit of someone else checking the chest for you to save your key for a gold drop, but the other benefits of doing the run should make up for it.
