need better ways to recruit

ok now i am an officer in my guild i love the guys in the guild couse all that is left is the loyal ones.. recruiting is a pain in the butt though becouse i feel that it is wrong to just yell out in a city for a solid 30 mins just to get someone to join the guild. I had about 30 in the guild about a month ago and then peep gradually started bailing and i even had someone start his own guild and recrout out of mine i help the guys in the guild all the time the new allience is sweet but i just need some advice on how to find more loyal people to join or where to find them.
