Should I buy extra char slots?

Hi guys, I'm trying to decide whether I should buy some extra char slots. Right now, I have 1 account, so 6 slots (merged Prophecies and Factions). I have used up all of them to create all 6 Prophecies professions. So the classes I'm missing are the Factions ones, Assassin and Ritualist. I'm trying to decide whether creating these chars justifies purchasing extra char slots. Based on your experience playing Assassin and Ritualist, would you recommend it?

Also, I've heard that ANet/NCSoft recently had some problems with the online store, something about credit cards and charging them multiple times. Not sure if that's been fixed or not.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated!

I think it's worth it.

If you've played all six other characters you should definitely give the factions ones ago as well.

Unless you're in college, then I know how big a deal 20$ can be.

But then again, if you're in college you can just eat ramen and bean burritos for a couple weeks/months so you should be able to afford them anyway.

The ritualist is definitely different, so it's a new experience to play one. The assassin is a bit average experience wise as it's another melee class, but you do have to use a bit of strategy to survive, as you are also the squishiest melee class.

well..i would ask you if you enjoy playing all those prohocies chars. if you dont enjoy playing 1 or 2 of them delete them for the sin and rit. yeah i know you might be thinking that you wasted 100k+ on each char for armor and weapons and runs or whatnot but why just have a char that you will never play again?

also if you look at the forums daily you will see the multiple complaints about sins (how they are considered noobish or unfavored because of many "noobs" playing them and give them bad reps. and it will take you twice as long to finsih the game as a sin (if you do).)...rits are more favored if you go into the communing or restoration bussiness (youll fine out what these are later if you play the profession)

but.. if you feel you play all the chars equally and want to take the risk you should buy 1 extra slot and make a PVP char for a sin test it then make a rit char and test it. if there is multiple charging to you card email anet or call them and tell them the problem and the will remburst you or something l;ike that.

What if with a little patience you would wait until Nightfall comes out? (Assuming that merging would again lead to 2 new slots, and 1 extra if you buy the announced bonus package) That's at least what I will do, but on the downside, then you'll have room for a Dervish and a Paragon but still not for an Assassin or Ritualist.

Good point.

Buy one slot and the pre-order and there's your second slot. You can be playing the first character while waiting for the pre-order.

I would recommend that you get extra character slots. I like to play every profession to familiarize myself with different skills and builds in the PvE environment. This way I will have a perspective on how profession plays, how it fits into a team, to gain knowledge through game-play, and to provide effective feedback about the profession.

My primary account is PvE/PvP ready, but I keep one slot always open to roll a PvP character. I have 8 slots on this account (5 PvE/PvP ready - W/X, R/X, Mo/X, E/X, Rt/X) with 2 reserved for the Nightfall professions. All other skills were unlocked either by a secondary profession or using Balthazar points. The second account has mainly PvE characters (N/X, Me/X, A/X).

The benefit to creating a PvE character for every profession in the game is to have flexibility. You will have the ability to help your guild, friends or a PUG team with any build the group may be lacking.

I wish ArenaNet would have offered extra slots a year ago, because I would have all my characters on one account.

I thought about it, but with Nightfall giving you three slots (with +1 for the pre-release), I'm going to hold off. But I don't play each and every profession either. I tried an Assassin and didn't like it, though I may try again, and was never really interested in the Rit.

Thanks for the replies guys! I think the class that I really wanted to play is the Ritualist. I had one slot left, and it was between Ritualist and Monk. I chose monk, because it's much easier to find a group with a monk, that and I wanted to pay Pre-Searing another visit

The Nightfall pre-order does sound very tempting, but I kind of promised myself that I would wait until Nightfall is out and see what it's like before deciding whether to buy it or not, because of the experience I had with Factions.

What about the online store, is it safe to give ANet/NCSoft your credit card number now? I've read a thread that had some nightmarish scenarios, where the person had to put a stop payment on his/her credit card to avoid multiple charges to the card.

I bought 3 extra slots couple days ago and so far no multiple charges. Used Visa Electron.

It is because I'm an idiot and was not thinking thoroughly. When the store was released, I was too quick in purchasing the two slots, but I am sure the extra slots will be useful in the near future. Currently, I have ready-rolled PvP characters occupying the slots, so the only benefit I can think of is having more PvP characters in the ready.

Sorry for bringing up this thread again. Got another related question. If I were to preorder Nightfall, how soon will I get the bonus char slot? Does it become available as soon as I place the order or do I have to wait until Nightfall actually comes out in order to get it?

From my understanding, the bonus slot activates when you add the Nightfall retail key.

Yeah, the bonus slot goes into effect when you add your Nightfall retail key.

Ya, at first both classes seemed sort of interesting, I had thought there was gonna be something useful to do with the Ritualist, but I haven't really found anything to do with either Sin or Rit that I can't do more efficiently with another char.

I've bought one char slot, then I'll get the others +1 Pre-release and +2 Nightfall. With that I can have a PvE char of every profession, cept Mesmer cuz I always end up deleting it, and then a PvP slot.

So basically I'm buying 2 extra slots on top of the bonuses added with each chapter. After that I shouldn't need to ever buy an extra slot again, because we should be getting +2 slots from each chapter that gives us +2 professions.

That's my take on char slots.

So for the OP, if you're seemingly reluctant to buy a character slot, I would say, for now at least, only buy one extra slot if any. With +2 from Nightfall, you could make one char from Elona and use the second slot for a Canthan char.

If you plan on buying Nightfall I really wouldn't bother unless you really need it instead of Deleting a Char.

Hmm, I hear that the team working on Nightfall is the original Prophecies team, that's the only reason I'm considering getting it. Maybe I'll buy one slot and pre-order Nightfall. Decisions, decisions...

i would go with the pre-order so you can get the chartor slot and yes i do agree with you fractions was a little depressing compared to prphocies.
I personally have 5 chartors and 1 for pvp when i get night fall ill just add like 1 of the new classes or so
