How to buy Character Slots

As far as I have seen, there is unfortunately only one way of accquiring extra Character Slots, that is through the ingame shop, which Anet has recently implemented. (you can find it in the upgrades section)

The downside to this shop is, that currently the only way to pay is through a Creditcard (Visa, Mastercard, etc). It is NOT possible to buy stuff in the shop by other means, like PayPal, acceptgiro, or any other way. Furthermore, the upgrades are not possible to be bought in normal retail shops, at least so far.

I think Anet made a misjudgement here, since Creditcards are only a popular method of payment in the US, and not as much in the civilized world. I wonder how many people are like me, want to buy character slots, but cant do so.

give them time my friend, give them time.

did you ever think you could buy itunes cards at your neighborhood supermarket?

anet should capitalize and mobilize "pay per slot" cards towards gaming retailers.

I don't have a credit card, and yet I managed to buy an extra slot! I just used a standard debit card.

Doh... i hoped noone would notice my very unpurposed typo...

Anyway, I dont think I have a Debit Card either, because I dont know what it is. Just a simple Maestro Worldpass, which I can use to pay in about every country in the world I have been, except the US.

a maestro worldpass should be the same thing as a mastercard

But all my pass gives is a 9-digit bankaccount, expiration date and a 4 digit pas number. Next to that I also have a 4 digit pin number.
I thought creditcards have long pasnumbers, and I tried to fill in the 9-digit bankacount number, but that didnt seem to work...

For The Netherlands (where systems like debit card and pre paid creditcards are not (yet) licened) using a system like iDeal (dutch) would be, well, ideal, but a system for every country seems a bit overdone though. I still encourage Paypal (even if it sucks, I only need to pay for my slots).

I can't comment on PayPal specifically, but I do believe that those without credit cards will have a solution soon.

The thing is, I can't see them (as far as I know only people in the UK can see them) and the Meastro world card is a normal bank pass and not a Debit card

One big problem with paypal, and a likely reason it will take a while to be implemented, at least without a lot of hoop jumping from ANET is that Paypal has a horrendous digital objects policy.

There is NO recourse for a seller to get reimbursed when dealing with digital objects. A very simple scam of doing a chargeback after purchasing a digital object and claiming that the object was never delivered leaves anet with lost revenue. No amount of screenshots or other documentation you can provide will be taken into consideration by the paypal investigation team.

This has been a very serious problem for Magic Online sellers through paypal.

Paypal is very nice, just not for digital objects.

Maestro is not in my selection list (germany, a country where 90% of all adults have a debit card)

Country: Holland, a.k.a Netherlands, home of the Dutch
Region: Europe
Payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Carte Blancaire (French??), Carte Bleue (again french??)

Estimated number of adult bankpass users: 99%
Estimated number of adult creditcard users: 10%

Debit Card: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debit_card

Maestro is owned by Mastercard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maestro_%28debit_card%29

Just that your bankpass has the maestro logo on it, doesnt say you can use it as a Mastercard. Any more confirmation that the UK debit card can be used for Mastercard online shopping?

I think creditcards need 16 digits, although it may vary per type. Bankpasses in Holland only have 9 digit banknumbers.

Loviatar has found a post which gives me hope that other payment methods will be implemented in the future. Apparently Maestro (=Switch) and Solo already have been implemented, but probably only in some countries, like UK.
Paypal will probably not be the one. Also Google is developing a new online payment standard, but I havent heard much from that yet. iDeal and the Rabobank online payment methods are commonly used in Holland.

I don't suppose they'll be supporting any sort of Interac, though. Guess it's time to bum credit off someone.

Touch luck for EFTPOS and debit cards... you HAVE to have your pin for those instances... well.. for NZ anyway.

The UK Mastercards I've just checked do not bear the Maestro symbol, and vice versa. Oh, and my Solo debit card has an 18 digit number.

I can confirm that in the UK, the list is Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Switch/Masestro, Solo. I have also seen a post from someone in Croatia who could not see these extra cards, so it looks as though they may only be available in the UK.

I would also suggest that the inclusion of a slot in the upcoming Nightfall pre-release pack is proof that they can produce slots on a key, and may be a move towards selling slots offline.

True that. Everyone stop talking about credit cards and paypal, it has nothing to do with GW.

That can be done with a straight credit card transaction as well.

Very true, but the investigation team when dealing with a credit card purchase is the credit card company. In the case with paypal, they handle it internally before ever turning it over to the credit card company. There is a big difference in policies.

Paypal has severe problems with their policies regarding digital objects. No amount of proof that you could provide to prove that the trade was done, that the person was the one who asked for it etc will be enough. They will just say tough and close your request and the seller then has to pay the money out of their own pockets. Many people have lost a lot of money because of this.

And the credit card and paypal discussion has everything to do with this conversation. The OP is asking for alternate methods for purchasing their provided product and availability/methods to those paying customers in other countries. How is this not relevant to GW?
