Monk FoW Armor Dying Weird
Sy Kosys
As some of you may know, the monk FoW armor now dyes differently then it once did. It used to dye inversely (orange dye makes like a teal), but now it dyes directly (orange dye makes dull orange armor). This really upset me when I found out right before buying my FoW for my monk. I asked Gaile Gray about it, and she said it might have been cataloged differently, ie. instead of being set as metal, it was set to cloth. A-Net if you see this, please change it back so the colors arent boring looking, and are actually bright and cheery.
Thanks,
Sy Kosys

I don't have any FoW armors let alone the monk set but correct me if I'm wrong when I say I think only the Aesthetics set dyes inversely. Any other set would dye normally. Again I could be wrong.
Mustache Mayhem
ah that's good to know.. I remember going through dyes on monk fow last year and it did dye funny- black was black but the other colors would go on inversed.. guessing because it's base color was changed (which is what you get with dye remover).. I wonder if this is the same on older sets

good to know, thanks

New ascetics dyes correctly ever since they labelled new armours "Obsidian Armour" and it isn't possible to get the armour tht dyes inversely. The old ascetics dyed much more vibrantly whereas the new stuff is dull

Oh i didn't know that, thanks for posting it

I agree. It's completely LAME. I've tried every combination I can think of and all I ever end up with is a dull shade of whatever color I'm trying to apply. Guess I'll have to just go with black, seeing as that's about the only color that actually looks good on the new monk astetics obsidian armor.

Yeah, I was really disappointed in this too. Wasted so much cash on dyes trying to find a decent look... and im opposed to plain black.
Currently using blue + s + s + s, but it's bland, and I need a new mix.
If anyone comes across a half-decent combo, spread the word...
Guess bl can = black or blue..
Probably should have made that more clear.. sorry.

black + 3 silver? what where you thinking.

Yea i was mad about this when I got my monk FoW, I endend up dyeing it red, IMo the only non-dull color. I want the bright blue.
Franzwald
Yea, I would like something bright as well. I wasted over 15K in dyes that I had stockpiled (+ more) trying to find the right combo only to find every single one I tried came out dull and lack-luster.
I'm currently using green + blue + green which turned out a forest green color.

Heh maybe I shouldn't mention my black, black, black, red combo that turned out to be crap. Black + Red though is pretty good.
Franzwald
What exactly does red + black look like?

After saving up for so long I was VERY dissapointed with this change.

I've been playing around with more dye combos. This is one of my favorites so far, but it doesn't suit this monk all that well.
Blue + Purple + Red
For the record though, plain silver doesn't look too shabby..
Still trying to get to that lovely pre-update teal, but can't even get close. Everything is too dull.

Well they need too update the old stuff/new stuff as one of my char's has half and half so i have to dye it all black if i want it too match.
saphir
that's unfortunate w/ the new fow armors. is this the bright blue being talked about? i dyed mine i think it was red+green which if memory serves, gives some sort of funky orange mixed dye. it was an accident while i was trying to mix a maroon color, but was thrown for a loop by the odd way my armor reacted to the dyes, being ascetics.

That blue is an example of the colors that you can no longer get, yes. I don't understand why this was changed. The price of the armor went up (adding shards) which I can live with, but they should have left the bright colors.
Please change it back!

This topic relates to one of my "I always wondered why.." thoughts i have while playing GW. I have quite a few of these. This one is namely:
I've always wondered why dye cant work from a neutral base. We know it doesnt, because the base color or type of the armor piece in question comes into play. Question is why? Armor is basically a .png or some other image file wrapped around a 3d character model, lighting effects applied. There is a default coloration for said armor piece, granted. Why cant when a dye is applied a neutral armor piece image file is referenced (better yet, the original is actually neutral, but default coloration is a dye state, but has no effect on dyes applied, and it reverts to this on use of dye remover) and when dye is applied so that - oh the wonders - you get that color. ^^ Would be kind of nice.

Yeah please bring back the vibrant colors Anet. I don't even see why updating the armors with such dull and bland colors , it makes no sense to me at all .
Mammoth
I'm actually not that dissapointed with it, but i will admit, having some of the bright colors would be nice...
however, the main color i was originally planning to get and still use, plain red, is only possible with the non-inverse dying, i've seen attempts on the old version and it just didnt look as good to me (it was more purple-ish)
Maybe we need some kind of thing like a dye remover, but instead a dye inverter

Glad I saw this thread - I am about to get my first FoW set - for my monk, and I have been drooling over the old color/dye charts, and was looking forward to trying out some bright colors... but now....

They can't "change it back" without removing shards from the materials needed <_< Dyes change slightly depending on WHAT you apply it to...
