Why are there never any special events for the Prophecies campaign? Such as the recent "double-your-run" weekend and the "elite mission" weekend? I think it is not fair to those who have only got the standered Guild Wars game. It seems as though, since Factions release, Prophecies has been forgotten. Will the same apply to Factions when Nightfall comes out?

To get people to buy factions? And probably, yes.

there was an interview that stated that new content would be concentrated on the current chapter and that no major content would be added to old chapters.

it was also stated that special events would be kept going in the old chapters and specifically mentioned halloween/wintersday events.

so you still have those to look forward to.

also isnt SF/UW pretty nice additions that stayed around?

Yes.

ANet is a company. As a company they need to make money. To make money, they need to sell the expansion packs. The best (though not most ethical) way to do that is to turn off the servers of the old game (prophecies) shortly after the new one (factions) comes out. Anet is above that sort of thing though (thankfully), so they turn to the next best thing: offering the people in the new game (factions), something that the old game didnt have.

It's not evil, its not money grubbing, its not even mean-spirited. No one forces Anet to hold these in-game events, they do it out of the goodness of their hearts.

Keep in mind (and this is my speculation, assuming that Anet/NCsoft works like every other employee/employer relationship), Anet has to justify expenses to NCsoft. If they want to do events often (as they've been doing lately) that costs money. The boss (NCsoft) wants to know why its spending this money, and "To make the players happy!" won't cut it. What will cut it though is "We're trying to draw more players (sell more copies) to factions by offering these events to those players." That is music to NCsoft's ears, and lets Anet do the in-game events that they want to do.

What I'm saying is, don't be upset because Anet only offers them to factions players, just be glad that they're able to get away with offering them to anyone at all!
