EDIT********************************************** ************
I GOT THE NOVEMBER 2006 ISSUE IN MAIL TODAY!!!
Well, here is how it works (paraphrased from pg. 96)
1) They provide you a code/access key imprinted within the magazine, unique to the mag. (I get sealed version with cd, not sure if it is present in non cd-version)
2) Go to Login page and enter access key
3) During preview event, head to Kamadan (port city in Nightfall)
4) type /bonusitems. This will put a 'broken toy' in your inventory
5) Accept the quest "Toy's Story"
6) Complete the quest to receive the mini-pet
7) If ya did it in preview and you want it back for full retail, repeat steps above
It sounds from step 7 that you will lose the pet at the end of the preview if you access it before retail version released.
So much for the get rich quick schemes :P

Original post below:
At back of my PC Gamer mag I got in the mail today (October 2006), it mentions that in the November issue they will divulge some info on a PC Gamer Exclusive minipet for Guildwars and more info on the upcoming chapter.
It reads "... details on the next Guild Wars game... and for the exclusive Guild Wars mini pet you can only get from us..."
Any ideas???
Update: They are calling it "Grey Giant"!! The artwork suggests a warrior looking figure (torso shot) that is half human/half skull huge tusk) that is colored gold and grey.

It's the U.S. version of the mag. Here are the specifics of the issue:
Issue #153, October 2006, Volume 13, Number 10
I would take a screencap of the blurb but I know the copyright police frown on that sort of thing.
Anyways, perhaps PC Gamer paid advertising fees to ANet to develop such a deal? Or it may just be a way for ANet and PCGamer to create a win/win through publicity/attention.
