IMO the biggest mistake in Factions was that you had a split storyline, causing the missions Vizunah Square, Eternal Groves, Gyala Hatchery and Unwaking Waters to be empty at most times and for Vizunah and Unwaking it would mean that you would get a bot team helping you out 9 out of 10 times.
Do you think they'll be in Nightfall? I myself see something like Vizunah Square happing all over again (local and foreign quater).
Split missions/storyline and Nightfall

I liked co-operative missions, it is exciting to be teamed up with another team and help them out do stuff. And that is in no way the worst thing that came out of factions. The small map and even smaller access to that map is what I think was the downfall of Factions. Not much of a downfall though, but it could have been improved.

I like the concept of the cooperative missions, I just wish there was a way to implement it better.
Like, if there aren't enough peeps on the opposing side, you have an option to "ally" with a group from your own (although that does take away from the point of the mission, does it really matter if the allied group is Luxon, Kurzick, Tyrian or Canthan?
But I hope Nightfall gives us new ideas for missions, period.

Faction is not a great game.GWP far out did it.Faction is so so.If you are PVP maybe it is good to you but as far as PVE not that hot..IMABHO.I know I wont preorder Nightfall till I find out if is going to be PVE or another Factions type game.

I liked the multi party mission concept, but ANet made a few mistakes IMO.
Here's how I would design it:
- Whilst the two teams can interact with each other, help/hurt each other etc, niether team can affect the other team's ability to complete the mission.
(ie. you cant fail the mission because the other team sucks/wasnt there/didnt do something etc.)
- Have some missions where the two teams are competing for something without actually fighting. (most monsters killed, fastest to the end point, keeping the most npcs on their side alive, etc.)
HOWEVER... both teams should be able to complete the mission, and both teams should get some sort of reward for completing the mission. The "winning" team should get a small extra bonus reward, but it should be lesser in value to the completion reward. (to discourage people from quitting if their team is losing.)

The trouble with Vizunah, as far as I can tell is that at first people never realised another human team would be comming with them. And also what if you needed to help a guild mate who was foreign complete it, and you had your local.
Many times i've seen "Hey xxxx you there?" when no response they have quit or let us die so they have a chance to ally with their guild mate.
Although I did enjoy these missions once I got into them, especially Unwaking waters, that was a great mission.

posted by frickett I think that the coop missions were awesome. I liked having our team meet up with another team. And they both made sense. Vizunah, with locals on one side and foreigners on the other. And unwaking waters with the kurzicks and luxons teaming up. These are my favorite missions. |
I found that it's easier with the hench, cause they actually live until I got there during that one mission. Where if it was PCs, died usually right before. It was frustraiting to the point of crossing your fingers and closing your eyes and hoping no green text mentioning other players loading comes up.
Mega Jamie said it the best, we went to that mission and all of a sudden we see another team running our way, you woudl be like wtf? cool! ohuh i took all henchies to solo this.Dead -_-
So yes if we had known maybe the teams would have been better and that would make the mission better for soem people that didnt like it.
I agree that you should be able to res allies in these missions.

well, I like the concept- just not some of the players lol
im sitting there like 3 times over in that mission doing super awesome on menhlos team, when all of a sudden the Canthans let Togo die....
for being so early in the game- its very difficult to get a group of non-noobs (so to speak)
the ones at the end of the game im not worried about-> people whove gotten that far in the game usually are better about grouping with other players, and helping to watch/complete the objectives.
(my original Fax char is an assassin- got to cavalon and decided to get my 'good' ppl there instead... so now im slowly getting 6 other characters thru Noobphui and such...)
