well im trying to put a new graphics card (well, decent card) into my "newer" but yet again decent, computer. its an emachines, same as my old one and my old emachines had this new card in it, but in the first slot closest to the wall of the computer. in this one, 2 slots are taken, only 1 slot left. i was told i think to put it in an agp slot but there is none, just 3 pci slots, and 2 taken by i dunno wat.

wats the apropriate slot for my new card after i disable the old graphics card? also do i HAVE to take the old card out? i dont know which one it is, probably the red one in the middle named "Pinnacle" cuz the other card is some stupid phone line in/out thing...

im such a noob at this please help

heres some pics of my comp

If that is an AGP card then you cannot install it in PC in the pictures, there is no AGP slot for the card to go in, sadly the only option is to upgrade the pc at some considerable expense or get a PCI card, there isn't many of them around now as technology has advanced a bit since PCI.

ATI PCI options. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...CI_Series.html

Nvidia PCI, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/MXFX_Series.html

Any of those would work just great inside your PC.

Oh, the cards you have already in the PCI slots are 56k modem(bottom slot), and what looks like an ethernet card(for broadband connnection) the othe soket on the card is a firewire port(fast port for video camera's etc)

Those snapshots of your computer does not show an AGP slot available. Seems like you only have 3 PCI slots, 2 are already taken. There will be no way to input that AGP Video Card into your "newer" Emachine.

2ndName - Read my post above, i have said that and given him options, if you are going to post give him advice please - cannonfodder

This isn't right though because my last eMachines looked exactly like that in the inside, no AGP slots, and I had the card in a PCI slot and it worked. The only difference was the modem was in the middle, the ATI card is where the modem is now in the current computer, and can't remember what else was in there beforehand. Should I try to disable my current card and insert the ATI card in a.) the empty slot? b.) the slot where the red card is and take it out?

I'm thinking a.)? I know this should work... the BOOKLET says look for AGP but I know the card is PCI friendly as well, it should be..

My apologies, I understood that as you said your card was AGP, it was, I should have looked at the picture closer, it is indeed a PCI card, it will fit in any of those slots, there will be no problem putting it in the first slot.

yeah when you boot up.. hit delete to go into the bios- there may be a switch in there to go from onboard vga to pci- otherwise it'll be a jumper on the board itself.. I'm not familiar with that board but if it's newer the switch should be in the bios

cannonfodder - I posted that the same exact time you did. I didn't know that you had mentioned the same thing until now. Sorry.
