Well all my slots are full, lol!
I have my Mesmer, a Ritualist, an Elementalist and a Necromancer. (if I picked up Prophetsies and then Nightfall when it comes out would I have 2 more slots from each game?)

getting the special bonus prerelease package (due sept 15) will add a bonus slot in addition to the 2 slots given for a merged Nightfall
buy both and you can add 5 slots instead of 4 slots
also you can buy additional slots from the store if you want which are good for all chapters past and future for 10 dollars each

Let me explain myself, I am not ALL ABOUT PVP or PVE, I actually like both! Playing with or against my friends is ALWAYS a blast and I gather a lot of fun doing both. And there’s were GW shines, you can go from one place to the other in a click of a button. I am playing this for over a year now and already been in 4 - 5 different guilds, some of them doing GvG on daily bases with narrow minded strategies and forum and map plans and everything you would wish from a hardcore guild, others that I would just gather with some friends to go do some crazy missions, help newcomers and talk while I was trading in outposts or farming some monsters or whatever. Being able to change from one to the other without having to go trough a whole process of annoyances is INCREDIBLE. The other thing that GW does a magnificent job at is chaining both aspects of the game...when you are on the PVE, it throws occasionally some PVP content for you to mess with, and the other way around goes as well. SO you can enjoy both of them at the same time without having to worry about classifications. And finally, the best aspect of the game, and the one that will be making me buy every single new expansion Anet releases, NO MONTHLY FEES. Don’t take me wrong, that isn’t an excuse for me not wanting to pay for WOW or whatever (50US$ every 6 months is almost the same as paying fees anyway ^^) BUT this method doesn’t bind you to the game, I mean, IT IS A GAME, and every now and then I will get tired of it. On my game time this already happened twice, I would simple uninstall GW from my machine and stopped playing for 3 months or so w/ out having to worry. When I felt like it, I would simply download again the 100kb client and start playing right away without feeling any remorse for my down time. Also its nice to point out that GW makes an awesome job of dealing with "time consuming farmers", I mean, people that play 24/7 or people that go from 1 to lvl 20 in 2 days or so, by just making this kind of grinding not so profitable as it is on other games. I mean, even after that 3 months brake I took from the game, when I came back I STILL had the better armor, the maxed out items and all. Overall idea, GW is appealing for ANYONE that likes RPG games, it is SO FLEXIBLE and have SO MANY different goals and aspects that blend PVE with PVP so GOOD that even if you don’t like one or another, the chances are that in the end you will be playing both. For all the ones that flamed the post and/or the poster itself, if you don’t like the game just go play something else, I BET that in 6 months or so when you fell homesick, you will be back to GW ^^ AND regarding the thread title, the life in GW happens before and after the lvl cap is reached, the game is built in a manner that being lvl 20 or lvl 2000 would not make anything different, the choose about it being 20 is because they realized that making it any bigger would not make any changes to the game play, so they locked it there. Just don’t bother looking at the lvl window and you will see that in a short time you won’t miss it. Later. |
No, first of all if they would do this, Guild Wars would no longer have explorable areas, but just about 100 districts which you decide to play in. Also, the whole map would be one big world, where as players would interact with each other and where more people could partake in monster killing, but just adding a more worldly feel. The misssions would stay the same though, but since people do quests with henchies anyway. It probably wouldnt affect that aspect of the game, quest wise.
So, it would be sort of like, if I was in Talus Chute(an explorable area outside of Droks) and if I decided to go inside of droks, I would walk in and there would be one district, but specifically just in that world.
I guess this would make lvling much more difficult, but it would also be 100 times easier to spot bots, because you can actually go into that explorable area and notice one monk repeating a farming process over and over again without saying a word. Again though, without alot of districts this wont become possible, and also the monster strenght and lvls must have some consistancy throughout the whole map, so that one group of players isnt just crowded into the troll cave.
I believe this would also reduce the amount of money into the game, make those stupid ebayer's out of bussiness, and nobody could then complain "FoW nub ebayer zomg il pwn yoo!"
Again, I am not playing devil's advocate here, I am just saying feasible solutions to raising the lvl cap. However, this would be PVE ONLY. STRICTLY PVE, RAISING IT IN PVP WOULD RUIN GUILD WARS, IT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN!
And, this really isn't the whole plan, but if someone wanted to raise the lvl cap the game would have to look somewhat like this.

A woman, you say? A mother, you say? Needs to take care of a family, you say? Then Guild Wars PVP iS FOR *YOU*! Ever wish you could beat the living crap out of your kid because he's acting stupid but don't want to because of legal reprecussions? Ever wish you could smack your husband upside the head because he's being stubborn about repairing that damn sink that's been leaking since your third anniversary? Ever drove your kid to school only to find the road closed due to construction?
Being a house mom, I know how harmful pent up anger can get, and there's nothing more refreshing than blowing someone's head off in PvP with a lightning orb. Interactive violence is the answer, and there's no violence as satisfying as smacking some monk in the head with a hammer or gutting someone's self confidence by flawlessing them within 5 minutes.
Killing monsters? Psh. Monsters don't have souls.

For Quirrah...
This is a completely different game model than EQ or any other game with the high levelling, grinding, etc. Totally different. Getting to level 20, the cap, is basically training. Once you hit level 20, then you should be about ready to hit the high end areas of the game and be able to compete reasonably in a group. Things such as the carpentry, fishing, etc. aren't a part of this type of gaming model, so you won't have those to do when you "get old".
However! Especially with Factions, once you hit 20, the game really begins! You've only gone a small fraction of the way through what awaits you... so if you haven't any 20s and haven't been to end game, you're cheating yourself. And yes, it's casually designed as well, so we folks with kids and spouces and the like can get in for an hour or two and still work our way through the missions and quests. So the real question isn't what to do after 20... for the answer to that is everything!
For Lacasner and the level cap increase... fuhgeddaboutit. Won't happen. Remember that the penultimate design of the game is to allow PvE players to work their way to 20 and be just as equally competitive as the PvP generates level 20s. You can't allow one to go higher and not the others. Besides, the destruction that would ensue to the existing coding if they ever attempted to raise the cap would kill the game. Balance would forever be lost. Yin and Yang would never find harmony. Mursatt and Oni would book couples vacations to Sandals.
We don't want that.

I'm saying it's not a possible solution. You cannot have the PvE players achieving higher levels than the PvP ones.

Basically everyone who's a bit into the game are level 20, so you have a nice level playingfield.

PvP and PvE are intertwined in Guild Wars. Just look at this weekends coming event to see that... PvP players are being allowed into Aspenwood and the Jade Quarry. If they attempted to allow PvE players to reach higher levels, these things could never happen.

Sorry. . .I couldn't resist! (Pirates of the Carribean)
We hear alot about "Code" in the EQ forums too . . .I dont know how to program computers, but my husband does. . so I knoiw it can be a tiresome, tedious process and sometimes impossible task.

I'll give you a different answer from everyone else in this thread.
People keep playing chess, even though its rules haven't changed in more than a century. Same board, same piece, same rules -- but each game is different.
The same holds true for GW. Playing the "same" mission with different professions, builds, and parties produces very different challenges and results. The goal is like any other game -- to PLAY. Have fun. Experiment. Help people. Find interesting items to use or sell. Look for the "best" way to beat a quest or mission. Try to earn a title or two. It goes on and on, and is limited by your imagination...
I find PvP somewhat entertaining, especially when we have an unofficial event like the Kurzick invasion of this last week. PvP can be a very interesting challenge, albeit it a different one from PvE.
GW is about balance. The game is about skill and tactics and strategy.
Well, and nice clothes, too. I must admit, I'm a father of 3, married for 25 years, and i get a kick out of creating hot chicks with sexy outfits. Fortunately, my wife also plays...

Well after you make a few pve characters and get them to lvl 20, try improving them by farming and getting nice equipment/armor for them. Try going for 15k armor first as a goal ^^. There're a lot of farming areas that you could try out too. And what makes guild wars fun is its pvp. After you get some experienced with the game, practice some Random Arenas/ Alliance Battles/Team Arenas. There're tons and tons of fun pvp builds that you can practice and try out with. Yes, and also like Coyote says, Pvp keeps the fun in the game because of its tactics and strategies =D.
