"Guild Bank" Common sense takes another heavy blow...

So I was in Iron Mines trying to get some of my Canthan armor infused, but everytime I went in with some loon warrior they'd end up failing miserably. I got fed up with it and decided to run infusion myself. I jumped into a Mo/W 55 suit and made a few adjustments, then advertised for a free run to get some real people to fight Eidolon instead of henches. I fill up fast and head out.
Soon enough while I'm in the middle of runnin, one of the random people starts talking...
Anyone ever heard of such a ridiculous scam, or further more someone who would fall for it?? I couldn't believe it the whole time until he confirmed it at the very end.
The thing that got me was that he was so nonchalant about it the whole time. He was a bit peeved but, by the way he acted, it was as if this kind of thing happened to him all the time...

Could've always been a guy with an extra account lying around that he allowed the guild to use. He allowed the guild use to use his storage for that account.
We had something similar in our guild. The "Guild Monk": someone had an extra account, and we all collectivly leveled a monk on it.... basically the owner handed out passwords to trusted members of the guild. Then whenever we were a monk short for a mission or a GvG we'd rock paper scissors to see who would hop on the guild monk and monk for us.

Honestly, I'm not surprised by this. Sorry to say, but this guy seems a few bricks short of a full load, and I'll bet he gets ripped off frequently. The lack of intelligence exhibited by some people in this game is truly frightening.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing in the EULA against that.
As for someone breaking trust...It's completely possible that those people are really his friends and they completely trust each other. Of course, no one should ever think of sharing an account with people they hardly know.

Dang, that IS pretty dumb. The thought of a guild bank, even being a storage, is a bad idea. If only the leader had access to it, he could take everything, sell the guild, and leave with a very hefty profit. If EVERYONE had acess to it, double the problems, somoeone could simply take everything in the guild storage.

Ok this is pretty stupid.
Why would you store your armor in the Guild Storage? Materials I could understand, but this is plain silly.
This is why I've always prouded myself in having a Storage/Mule Character, who's sole purpose is to hold my extra armor, weapons and other goodies.

It's people like this that make me not want to run anyone. Which I don't.

Yeah, its time to thin the herd out a little.

Well now the useless mocking replies are out the way, it's possible he thought he joined a guild that had trustworthy members etc. that's not an unreasonable viewpoint. If you join a guild and suspect everyone, perhaps you'd be better off not in a guild at all.
Who knows, it may have been an Officer? Without any further info it's pointless to speculate. Another note, from the responses in here it seems people are of questionable moral value themselves. If you see someone who's vulnerable/naive, do you think they deserve something bad happening to them? It's their fault? No, the blame solely rests with the scumbag who decided to abuse the situation. Period. They have the choice not to act like that, but they did so.

When I was working at a deli in high school, we got a phone call from some guy who claimed to be a "safe inspector". At my suggestion, we told him that we would need his fingerprints, SSN, and a urine sample for security measures. He hung up.

I guess it depends on the guild environment and the trust level that the guild has. I pretty much hand out everything to my guild and I haven't had an issue on it yet on getting the items back. Then again, it really depends on the level of trust that the members have for each other.

Not sounding anything like my name, I asked who is calling. The telemarketer said he was with The Rubber Band Powered Freezer Company or something like that. Then I asked him if he knew Dave personally and why was he calling this number. I then said off to the side, "get some pictures of the body at various angles and the blood smears". I then turned back to the phone and advised the caller that he had entered a murder scene and must stay on the line because we had already traced this call and he would be receiving a Summons to testify in this murder case. I questioned the caller at great length as to his name, address, phone number at home, a work, who he worked for, how he knew the dead guy and could he prove where he had been about one hour before he made this call. The telemarketer was getting very concerned and his answers were given in a shaky voice. I then told him we had located his position and the police were entering the building to take him into custody. At that point I heard the phone fall and the scurrying of his running away. My wife asked me, as I returned to our table, why I had tears streaming down my face and so help me, I couldn't tell her for about fifteen minutes. My meal was cold, but it was the best meal in a long, long time. |

its not a scam our guild has 2 leaders of which i donated my second unused account to serve as a guild vault which both leaders can access and log on with...
not a place to store personal items but a place to stick unwanted items and materials as well as a place to hold guild donations that were use initially to fill the hall with all npc's and will be used again to change the hall if there are any nice new ones introduced in nightfall...
i persistantly donate excess cash and greens to the vault for all of our new members in need to help build their characters...
yea there is no Personally guild storage... i wouldnt place stuff i wanted in there because youd have to rely on whoever operated it to be on when u needed stuff let alone trustworthy...

thing i find funny about this is all the flames coming from people who are obviously in a terrible guild. I am the leader of my guild. We do not accept anyone we havent played with, meaning we screen our recruits thoroughly before they are accepted. This insures we have a lvl of trust among our ranks.
Having said that, I have a char specifically for the purpose of storing dyes for the guild.. People contribute all dye drops(IF they want to.. its not req).. inturn they have access to the dye bank when they need it. the only dye i keep track of who donated what is black dyes.. our system works.. they all know that if they need dyes, they just ask.. and as soon as im free (pending on if im in a mission or not) then we meet at the guild hall and they get the dyes they need. Yes i hold black dyes for people too.. and they all know they can trust, that when they need a black dye.. and have given me one to hold.. they will get it back. all free of charge.. there are no requirements to donate any money, items, or whatnot to our guild.
we also hold spare items and material overflows for each other.. if someone needs space, and someone else has it to spare, then why not? i know this all comes down to the trust issue.. but if you aren't in a guild with people you trust then why are you there? if you can't trust them to hold a pixelated item with no real value, why do you trust them to have your back if something goes wrong in a mission, or to be patient if you don't know something?
this game is far more fun and enjoyable if you're playing it with people you trust, plain and simple.

i believe with the aspect of buying char slots, this idea will die in guilds. since now everyone can have their own mule

At WPG we offer guild storage of common crafting materials (hold onto your own rares!) and collector items (horns, manes and other monster parts) and both of us co-leaders have mules to hold the materials.
We keep track of the quantity deposited and then that member may withdraw a like amount of any material so those that wish to participate basically have accounts, which are recorded on our forum. If you need 200 wood, deposit 200 of any materials and withdraw the 200 wood. With the addition of the materials storage this is being used less than before. Also with the expansion of the guild to 150ish people often just ask for some materials and get it from guildies.
Collector items are just deposit what you want and take what you want. With the multitude of green items of all sorts out there now they are not used as much as they used to be, as it is sometimes easier to get that perfect green than try to make your own with a collector item as the start point.
We haven't had any abuse of it and have been offering this service for a very long time, probably about a year now.
