Introduce skill rewards again

Factions does not have skill rewards as profecies did can you put them back again in nightfall.
gene terrodon
If they didn't already, it's too late.
We'll just have to wait and hope.

they should make it like profecis campain so cool

Yeah, I miss the Skill Quests. I mean, I'm a cheapskate, and I don't like buying skills unless I really need them. As a result, there's a LOT of Faction skills I have yet to unlock. I hope at least some of the Nightfall skills have quests (or at least, are available in the "pre-" area...)
Align
Ideally skills you get as soon as you take the quest which you then use to beat the quest. That was cool in Presearing, getting Hammer Bash to interrupt a monster skill.
BuddyLeeX
I agree.
What Anet did was introduce money rewards, so you could use that money to buy items/armor and especially skills with it. Although when you reach the 1k per skill plateau, 250g for a quest reward doesn't cut it when you need to buy a skill.

i rather have skills than a monastery credit or a emergenci provicions they suck, and the money sistem sucks as hell.

All core skills should be quest rewards for all Guild Wars expansions

I think skill quests are great. But Anet was trying to make it so you had more "freedom" of the build you were playing, so they introduced money rewards and no immediate skill quests (aside from pre-searing).
IMO the best solution is to make quests give rewards (ex. an Imperial Commendation), but allow those to be exchanged for skills. So you do a quest, get 2 Commendations (instead of 2 specific skills) which you can turn in for 2 skills of your choice. The commendations for Nightfall shouldn't be tradeable for salvage kits and the like, though.
The only problem I see is that they could sell for 800g and could make quest farmers who dont want the skills to become "rich", but its not such a big problem.

Or perhaps 2 commendations for one skill, seeing that in your idea you can choose whichever skills you want. Perhaps even more commendations o.o
5 commendations = 1 Berzerker Scroll.
1 Berzerker scroll = 1k on average.
1 skill = 1k
5 commendations = 1 skill.
That's how I see it happening if your idea were to be introduced into the game, xBakox.

I miss them in Factions.
They make the side missions more meaningful as well.
Please bring them back.

I know I've said this about a lot of things, but -
the revised skills system was my single favourite thing about Factions
- and I'll be very disappointed if they change it back again.
You see, when I started playing Prophecies, I had a cool idea for a character.
"Self, you know what would be very cool? How about playing a hydromancer?"
"That sounds great, self! Let's do that!"
For those of you who've never played an elementalist through Prophecies, the punchline is that it is not physically possible to do anything of the sort for 2/3rds of the game. Skill quests feed you stock fire spells, and if you want to play anything else you'll have to pull out some damage skills from your secondary, since there's nothing to buy at the skill trainers. I had to complement my two-water-spells hydromancer with Illusion-based degen for a long time.
A sader, more sober man, I decided to plan out my second character.
"Self, let's play a warrior. I hear they're easy to run through with!"
"Sounds good, self! For some variety, let's make a hammer warrior!"
...you get the idea.

I'm 99% it's not going to happen in any future chapter.
Skill quests make no sense if you REALLY stop to think about it.
The Factions quest rewards were better than the Prophecies rewards, you got skillpoints and money and you could get whatever skills you wanted/needed instead of getting all sorts of useless skills.
People keep thinking they are missing out on the number of skills they get in Factions compared to Prohecies and they are NOT - it's just another myth.

Actually I found myself being unable to get many skills in Factions because I actually had to pay for them. In Prophecies, I didn't buy many skills; if there was a quest for them I did it. Thus, I had a wider variety of skills.
In Factions, however, I had to purchase skills from the skill trader; there were no real skill quests. By that I mean quests where skills are listen in the "reward" area. The ones listed on Guild Wiki are:
1. The skills given to you by Instructor Ng during Orientation.
2. The skills given by secondary profession quests.
3. The skills given by the Insignia quests.
4. The skills given when you change your secondary profession via Senji.
These aren't listed in the reward area for the quests.
There are no other skill quests in Factions. Thus, I was forced to buy my skills, and found myself extremely limited, as I couldn't afford many. I got maybe 250 gold for a quest reward, whereas in Prophecies that would amount to one or two skills. In other words, 1 or 2k. I could only run maybe two different builds, compared to the five or six from Prophecies.
As far as I'm concerned, put in the skill quests but keep the variety of skills available at traders. This means those that don't have money to buy skills will still get them, but those who would rather pay than do a quest can get them too.
EDIT: Clarified definitions.
EDIT 2: Explained more in-depth.

If they keep the way of buying skills then I think they need to either reduce the cost cap of skills or give more money rewards in quests and missions.
darrylhaines
I hope they bring back the skill quests as well.
It's not the cost of them in factions, but you have to have the skill points available to be able to buy the skills.

How many of the random skills that you got from skillquests in Prophecies did you actually use in your builds? I'm going to guess not many, and the only reason you did use those specific skills was because you were "forced" to. I much prefer being able to pick my skillbar.

Verata's Sacrafice....Villainy of Galrath....A must for MM (before nerf)
EoE - The Lost Princess...EoE Bomb anyone?
Rebirth - Dropping Eaves...A must have for any Mo/* or /Mo build in high level area farming areas (SF, Uw, FoW Faction Elites).
Need I go on?
Furthermor, in Factions your new character had a very limited selection until Kaineng City and even less skill points or gold available. For me it wasn't an issue, but for someone starting fresh, to get a decent build you had to really grind the quests and farm for gold or your other option was to get the skills that were close eneough for the build you wanted and use that until you could afford to change it.

I should have called this thing "Vending Machine Of Ideas" not "Dobermann".

I started a thread on this awhile ago.
I don't mind if they put skill quests back, as long they also have skill trainers with all skills available early.
Being able to play the build I design for the majority of the game instead of only the very end was great. It is the main reason why I enjoyed Factions so much more than Prophecies.
Also, I like that I can send a Prophecies character to Kaineng to pick up any Factions skill I want for them. If I want a Factions character to have a Prophecies skill, I can't just send them to Lion's Arch. I have to unlock the skill with faction first, then go to LA, and I don't PVP all that often to have a lot faction play with. So I really hope picking up Nightfall skills will be as painless as Factions skills.

With the high amount of XP and money you get in Factions your are BETTER off than you were in Prophecies.
I don't know why people just don't seem to get it.

The best system to make everyone happy is to allow the player to choose their reward after they complete a quest. Say for example you get to choose from:
* More Experience
* Gold Coins
* A skill (let there be a choice of 5 skills so everyone doesnt have the same skills)
With more choices available, you can play each character how you want.

However, Gold was never really a problem for me. I used Collectors for my armor, never spent a single gold on any bags, runes of holding, salvage kits or identification kits. As far a Gold goes, Factions is much nicer to beginning characters than Prophecy was!

I reckon for quests in Nightfall there should be:
Prophecies exp amount: Factions was fun with the fast leveling but there's no sense of real accomplishment when you're just getting skill points for your hard work.
A small amount of cash: like 250g. Not so much as to completely enable you to be able to buy anything you wanted but still a reasonable sum.
In addition to this there should be some quests that give different skill rewards like this:
Early quests "force feed" you a few skills so you get a feel for a new class and don't "gimp" yourself early game.
After the beginners area then you should get to learn one skill of your choice that is in the Core or Nightfall skill list. This allows people to choose how to play and removes need to farm for cash for skills.
To not completely remove the need for skill points, not all quests would offer skills and the number of skill giving quests would be 10-15 skills less than the total amount.

yeah nightfall needs skill quests my mesmer, necro and warrior all have to pay 1k for each skill now and with the additions I cant really go to town while i'm buying skills even from factions and I have tons of unused skill points. I think i've only bought 10 skills between the 3 in factions and nearly all of them were capture signets.

Ever since I heard that the same team that made Prophecies is the one making Nightfall, I've been hoping that 2 parts of the game will be back to their better, original forms:
1. more PvE content and area. Factions is just too short, too quickly beaten, and too much back and forth
2. quest rewards of skills. The way I see it, Factions encourages stagnant builds. I looked at the skill pages, purchased the few I wanted, and haven't been to a skill trainer since. The manner in which Prophecies continued to give you new skills made me re-evaluate my attributes and skills much more often, to see if the new skills I was getting could benefit my build. I liked this system much better.

Let's see...
Do the quest and get Otyugh's Cry... or do the quest, get a skill point and enough gold to buy the skill of my choice (initial skills do not cost 1K).
Hmm... let me think about it...

Much better the way it is now.

Besides, they could give us a choice of skills as a reward, thus having the best of both worlds.
