Is there a guide to the Hammer warrior?

Hi all,

Even though I am not new to Guild Wars (been playing since the 2004 free weekends), and my main character is a W, I have to confess I do not know how to play a Hammer Warrior.

The other day I tried it for the first time and it, although I'm pretty sure I didn't make a good build, I had lots of fun.

I was wondering if someone could please give me like a "basic N00b's guide to the Hammer Warrior" or direct me to one. Builds, skills, equipment, etc.

One of my biggest doubts is regarding hammer mods: Typically for a sword W I use 15^50 with 10% furious, and for an axe I use +5 energy also with 10% furious. What about the hammer?

I am mostly a PvE player, but would be interested in trying the hammer W in PvP too.

Thanks in advance for any help

Apparently trolling does wonders too.

Id say use 15^50 or 15 -5 energy, you wont be using much energy as a hammer warrior i dont think...fortitude mod would probably be best IMO.

i disagree on the 15 -5. never use that as a hammer warrior. one of the best skills a hammer warrior has at his disposal is irresistable blow, which is energy based. you want to spam this as much as possible. on another note, never use 15 -10 armor either. the best mods to use are 15>50 or 15 in stance. zealous, vamp, and furious are good options for hafts, and defense and fortitude for grips.

you'll need to decide whether you want it for pve or pvp, because they're both very different and require different skill sets.

Thanks for the information! I got a few more questions:

1) Is a +5 energy hammer of any use for PvE? Or should I stick to 15^50 ?

2) Should I get those "extra knockdown" gauntlets?

3) Which armor generally should be better for a PvE hammer build? I suspect gladiator for the extra energy?

Thanks once again!

I find that 20 energy (I use sentinel, not glad's) is plenty for my hammer warrior, even with irresistable blow. Thus, I would do 15^50. Also, like always, you can't beat vamp. for damage. As far as armor, as I said I use sentinel. This, combined with a grip of defense sort of substitute for the lack of a shield.

Finally, the Stonefist gauntlets depend on what skills you use. If you use Backbreaker as an elite, the gauntlets are worthless. They do not lengthen the 4 seconds. However, if you use other KD skills more, the extra time can be a big plus. Devastating Hammer's KD with stonefists is long enough to get both crushing blow and belly smash in successfully.

Knockdown gauntlets would be a must if you are making a hammer warrior. Unless ur making a hammer war for no knockdowns, which defeats most of the purpose. Some of the good hammer skills also require energy. Irresistable blow is good as well as crushing blow following a kd. Deep wound is just too good to pass up. Might wanna bring an extra skill to cover it up as well. Perhaps backbreaker, crushing, belly smash to inflict blind and cover it up (backbreaker requires alot of adrenaline though) . Some ppl go with devestating hammer , crushing and then fierce or heavy blow to capitalize on the weakness inflicted by devestating hammer. (fierce adds xtra damage where heavy blow kd's). Either way you can shutdown other wars with blind or weakness.. but we should be going for monks anyways. Irresistable blow helps you there when they cast guardian or other block/evade skills.

When you have these skills down you might wanna look into your secondary skills to add extra damage, such as holy strike or aftershock, which complement your kd's as a hammer user. Although pure warrior skills are just as effective and speccing into secondary attributes might spread your points out too much.
