Maybe someone can explain this to me
Family Draconis
I see all kinds of people around here and in game that have multiple accounts. I just don't see any reason why you would need more than one. Of course you'd get more character slots by having extra accounts, but now that they put the store up, you can just buy new character slots for something like 6 bucks. This new system makes an entire new set of characters (if you buy a new game, a new set would be considered 4 slots) cost half as much as buying a new game.
Now I know this is a new thing so a lot of people that had bought extra copies of the game will tell me that they couldn't do that, but that still doesn't explain why you need so many characters, even if they're just mule accounts. I can't see the justification on spending $40-$50 on a game just to have more storage, so let me hear what you guys all have to say on the matter.

Swinging Fists
Before character slots became available (for $10 each by the way), each account had 2 less slots than the number of professions. In addition, many people like having an extra slot for PvP. People bought a second account to be able to play all the professions and to have room for their items that were accumulating.
It is entirely plausible that YOU can't justify it, as well as many others. But it is just as plausible that others CAN justify it. For the number of hours of entertainment this game provides, it is not at all unreasonable to spend another $50 to be able to fully enjoy every aspect of the game.

I like to have my own guild hall, and join an other guild for experience, so now one account has the hall and extras and the other account is a member of a big guild.

well some people buy other accounts as camels (aka to hold extra items from the main account) thats what i think

I bought an extra account so that I could make all six characters. I then wanted to take all those characters into factions; so bought two factions keys. I'd imagine thats how a few other people have two accounts.
Energizer Deth Buni
I ended up with 3 Prophs accounts and 2 Factions accounts. During Prophs you could only have 4 chars. Then to get the other 2 proffessions in i got a 2nd account. The third account was an answer to guild storage. A few of us had the password to that account so we could collect materials and items to distribute to new guildies and such... I bought Factions for my other 2 playing acounts. Now with extra slots this all overkill i think.

The MAIN reason why people have multiple accounts is because that the option to buy a new character slot for your account has not been around for a long time.
The people that have dual accounts probably got a second before the ability came about to do this.
I never wanted to create an additional account because:
1) I'd have to unlock all the skills twice.
2) Have to buy expansions for two accounts (by the time I thought about this I knew factions was coming out).
Guild Wars Store isnt as old as you think it is.

My second account is pure storage and convenience.
I have plenty of crafting supplies.
It really helps out a new faction character to start off with runes, a few hundres gold, good starter weapon and the credits get the bags.
Origionally they were going to be played when the storage problem was solved, but now that A-net sells slots, they will stay mules.

I bought 2 accounts and shared them with my son, with each of us having characters on both accounts eventually. Then my brother got the game and decided he really didn't like it so gave me that one as well, which is used for guild storage + 1 storage toon for me.
With the introduction of the additional character slots my son and I have separated the accounts so we each have our own now - but I am rebuilding my necro, elem and ranger because of it, oh well.
Summary: I had multiple accounts so as to play all 6 core professions in PvE.

I've only got multiple accounts, because I've taken over accounts of friends that left. I almost never use them because its such a hassle, but they're mostly there for storage.

I'd like to know how you guys trade from one account to the other account.
I have 2 accounts, one belongs to me, one to my son. My son's belongs to me for official reasons, he can't register it at his age.

I did this back to front, I had Prophecies and added factions, but had a monk, warrior, ranger, necro and ele on that account and my pvp slot. But wanted a mesmer and ritualist, so bought the factions copy, then decided I wanted them in prophecies as well so did that.
I don't use them as mules per se, but a friend of mine has a character on my second account which allows him to mess around in factions, etc.

If you have atleast two computers, just run one account on each. If you don't, you'll have to find a very trusted third party.
chessyang
in my case for two accounts is stroage and when every my wife want's to help run 2 person UW. Two of the four slots are full of junk i need to sell/merch some day.

I have 2 Prophecies acount and both have Factions.
I wanted to have all the proffesions, thats why I bought 2.
Now I use 1 acount for PvP and the other for PvE.
And I will do the same for Nightfall
To bad i cant merge those acounts together

My main reason for another account was having all primary professions. There wasn't character slots an year ago so it was the only solution.
Metanoia
Did anything ever happen with the multiple account holders? I remember seeing some petitions for account-linking but I never really followed it.

I have came to realised that I dont want to play on another account, for the sake of unlock, fame, storage, and identity, (people looking for me on one account when I'm on another). I also want my items and matiriels on my main account. even my pre character is on my main account so it could use the spiritbinder.
so now I have two extra accounts with characters gathering dust and age, waiting for their birthdays. one of which is american, so I could trade in america, which has more people then in the european english districts, and is populated in hours in which europe is not.
Maybe one of them will be put to use once I'll get a gamer gf
[point is, I got them for all kind of reason which proved to be false].

I have two accounts, orginally bought the second to have one of each of the primary classes. When I had a spare slot on my second, we turned that into a guild mule account. That mule accumulated many many materials. Now when a guildie wants to get some materials, I don't have to interrupt the quest or mission I am in to log off and lose my place or make them wait. I just fire up the second account, quick trade and back to my business.
I still use my secondary account to play on, and it turns out that the split has gone along gender lines. All my male characters are on my main account, and my female characters are on my secondary.
My main account is the one that has all nearly all skills unlocked now so I have a spare spot for a pvp role if I choose to, not that I care much about doing any of that.
There are also times when I want to run one of my characters on my secondary account someplace. So instead of hiring a runner, I fire up my primary, log onto my war or ranger, join party with myself from account 2 and run. Saves money.
There are plenty of reasons to have more than one account that don't become obvious until you have them and realize how nice it is.
