really dunno wtf is going on, but all day today in uw when i ast visage then IOH and agro, i have lost visage as soon as i cast IOH , i spent 25k trying to see wtf is happening and there is NO nightmares there !!!!

I'm thinking about making a rit, and it'd basically be for this and PvP. Just curious if it's worth it.

You are probably targeting the ghost with your visage while you aren't even noticing it.

This bulid is very, very profitable. Don't forget you are farming in the UW, one of the best high end areas in the game with great loot. You will probably waste a large amount of plats before you are used to luring at the start; but you'll (well, atleast I do) make a large amount of money every run. If you are an experienced UW rit, the run takes about 10-13 mins. I make about 3-4k of pure loot and ID'ing the whites and selling them to the merchant, without the ectos. The ectos drop pretty good too (not for me tho the last days) and they drop many golden items too (most are shite, but worth like 400g to merchant). The Phantom chests have some pretty nice items if you're lucky.. I got a Storm Bow with crappy stats and +30hp mod (Salvaging got me 8 wood planks though, lol).

I'm not sure I would say that this build is as/more profitable than a monk/SS or monk/Famine duo run (when done right) since you can't take the Aatxes or Terrorwebs and since getting the smites can be very risky, especially with a bad spawn, but it is definately a good, profitable build. It takes a bit more practice to get down that many other UW farm builds, but can be very nice when you don't have a farmin buddy online and don't want to bother with PuG duo partners.

Spiffy build, works great. 
Not sure if this was posted (too lazy to read all the pages), but it can be done as a Mes/Rit - tried tonight. Replaced Soothing Memories with Channeling, since I used Vengeful Weapon all through-out the cycle to make up for the difference in attributes.
At 12 Restoration, the Squids/Smites all drop around middle of the third VwK.

With the aid of the guide (thanks) i'm finding it easy enough to get past the aataxes to the smites now. But i keep screwing up and letting a group of smites kill me sooner or later. Usually it goes OK but then some group of them will just overwhelm me with zealot's fire. Obv. I have ancestors or sympathetic up, but what else should i do? Is this when i'm meant to be using Soothing Images? I didn't actually see a use for it mentioned so swapped it out for channelling...and i can't imagine i'd ever have a spare 15 energy to use it without channelling...but is that the answer? I'd rather not swap out vengeful weapon 'cos i don't see how to kill nightmares w/o it.

As long as you keep a Visage on you at all times however they will be drained of energy and should go down quickly. If you are waiting for the smites to attack you before casting Vengeful, that might be your problem, in such case simple make sure you have a Visage on you and have Vengeful up before the first smite pulled hits you. Beyond that I'm not sure what advice to give you since the only problems I really encountered were Nightmare popups between two close Aatxe groups when running to the smites.

My mistake lol. I read "Soothing Memories" in the guide as "Soothing Images". I'll just try putting vwk up sooner then...

Have never died cause of the smites. I've dropped Soothing Images for channeling. The problem was with clear the chamber, at leat until i know exactly what and when to do it. Now is a walk in the park, take me around 18k, but they are recovered in the first day.
So this is a great and easy build for sure.
Just don't forget to put Physical resistance on.
Next time will try the coldfires, and taking Ward of frost, instead of channeling, i think it could work nice and easily.

With visages always on and physical resistance, VWK should be enough to keep you at almost full health, just keep spamming Veng Weap.

hmm.. im not farming UW 24/7 but i have never found an ecto of a smite crawler

Wow this build rocks! I made enough Ecto/Cash for my Warriors FoW helm in 2days!! =O This farm takes a while to master but once u have its a peice of piss ^^. Now all i gota do is find a decent Forgemaster group! Ty eva so much Dahnel u r a ledge!

Lately ive been swapping Soothing with various other skills, mantra of frost makes Coldies infinity more tankable

i did the same to make an ele a month ago, in 12 days i'll have 10 Pve toons and a pvp slot (bonus key)

I don't want to be mean, but what's the point of soloing UW avoiding aatxes? If solo uw was already boring, avoiding them it's even more boring and since Aatxes have the higher ectoplasm drop rate (4%) it's freak not facing them.
Well sorry for criticism, but it's true. Solo will be always a waste of time since there are no solid builds for it.
Nothing like a decent SS or Famine Ranger and a DECENT Spirit Bonder Monk.

Dead to all 55hp's monks. If you actually had a look at all, you'd see the 55/105hp SS necro solo build, which can do the entire Run in 14 mins (Attaxes& all Smites), no solid builds my ass

 Too bad I dont have a ritualist so I had to do it with my mesmer  , but still it's very easy and fast . I only had to up my armor a bit to still get overhealed by VwK. Taking smites out takes only 2.5 VwK's. (btw I start with PR, than try to aggro 10+ smites, run to safe spot, cast AV/SV fast and than I start with echo VwK, when they are already on me).Only Graspings are a bit annoying cause they take 4 VwK's to take out (so 10 sec without VwK )Oh, and with a mesmer/ritualists it's still possible to take out the coldfires

AMAZING build. after aataxe induced death thanks to talking to the Lost Soul at the start (>_<), the second run went near flawlessly. took awhile, though for a second run, that's fine with me. practice makes perfect right?

Cost me around 20k in practicing, but I can get through to the smites and kill them.
Awesome build, but im losing a lot of money due to the atax spawning at the bottom of the stair with the last grasp behind him. if he's a couple of steps up, you can slide past on the right side of the wall. The other problem is when a nightmare spawns in the middle as well, so then ur have the atax/grasp chasing, and if the nightmare can hit that rend enchantments uve lost IoH and your fooked. Gonna keep trying, but its doing my head in tonight. Good build though, excellent in fact!

Ahh, but the skill is in the aggro, with large amounts you either cast Echo, Run in , gather and then cast Vwk (with only 18 effective seconds to gather aggro), or you run in gather can cast echo>Vwk , and 3 seconds is enough to kill you several times over Lavindathar
Finally got this build sorted, making a good profit now and completing the whole run.
Just swapped Spiritgardens reposte for a Totem Axe and a Restoration Straw Effigy. Now my enchants last 20% longer, I have 2 more energy points and I still have the recharge 20% bonus. Helps an awful lot, and now I can clear it

It is still very much doable, only slower since you have to take only one group at a time, but still it is one of the best ways to get ectos in the game

yes this build still works well and quickly in UW. I timed it and runs take 17minutes at most averatge is 15. So they added about 3 minutes to the run from the nerf.
Thanks dahnel for this truely awsome build. i haven't ran anything like it sense 55 prior to aoe and rendenchant additions to uw. anyone wanting to know exactly how much ya can make.... with everyone it varies but i am well into my second stack of ecto. Cheers! |
