What's up with the caster items?

Being a huge fan of this game, I'm a little worried about the drops and stats of caster items. It's very hard to find (near) GOLD perfect stuff for a caster, let alone find them on rare skins like a platinum wand. I'm looking for weeks now to get one.

I'm playing a monk for 10 months now and before that I played as a warrior for about 6 months. I didn't have any trouble to find the rarest warrior items with perfect mods. You just have to take a look at the trade forum. A zillion daggers, swords, bows, shields etc. Perfect stormbows, platinum blades, etc. But when it comes to caster stuff, that's another ballgame.

Next to that I notice a lot of one bonus wand drops. (Recently opened 1000 high end chests). Also the mods on staffs are sometimes ridiculous in my opinion. For example, I found a staff req 12 illusion, 19% recharge blood magic, 19% recharge fire. And I get a lot of those mixed bonus staffs.

And when finally someone auctions a platinum staff (req8 smiting) 10% 10%, it goes for 100k + xxx ecto. No prob, but I prefer 20% 20%.

Something is wrong here and so I ask you, what's up with the caster stuff? Can you help me understand.

- yes you can get perfect blues
- yes you can get greens
- yes perfect rare skins cost a lot, I don't mind. I wish I could spend my money on such an item.

I think its the fact that caster items come with random mods.

While say,axes, won't come with a +1 to Hammer Attribute.

It's stupid really.

My thoughts:

Supply and demand + Random Drops

I suspect there are more Monk & War characters vs spell casters so there items are in higher demand.

2/3 of the equipment is 1 handed items that can not be modded with an upgrade vs say a sword that you can put 2 mods on to "make" a perfect mod on it.

I wish I was still in the state where I didn't see anything wrong.

My point: It's extremely hard to find perfect Gold rare skin caster stuff. Even if you have the incredible amount of money these items go, finding one is a pain in contradiction with warrior and ranger stuff for example.

Er there is cheap caster stuff you can buy gold 10/10 staffs for 10k ish. Some go for 100k + as they are rarer than the other skins i.e. ghostly or platinum.

Staffs which three profession modifiers are quite useless. These kind of combos should be removed from the roll pool so people get something useful instead these weird ones.

True and that's what I'm obliged to buy as I don't find those rare skins on the market even though I have the money. And that's kinda frustrating as I spend hours and hours watching the trade forum and ingame trades.

Well in the last week or so I have purchased the following "rare" staffs: -

Gold 20/20 Smite Ghostly Staff
Gold 10/10 Curses Ghostly Staff
Gold 10/10 Divine Ghostly Staff
Gold 9/9 Domination (I think) Ghostly Staff
Gold 8/8 Orrish Earth Staff
Gold 20/20 Protection Staff
Gold 20/20 Divine Staff
Gold 10/20 Smite Staff
Gold 10/20 Blood Staff

I found the above staffs with relative ease. Not once did I go out of my way to find them. Some of them are very rare such as the Orrish Earth Staff and the ghostly staffs.

There are alot of nice staffs on highend right now. There was a 10/10 Double Dragon Head staff which along with the Orrish Earth staff is most probably the rarest staff in Tyria. There are alot of Ghostly staffs too. They are one of the rarest and most desirable staffs in prophecies.

Warriors done get it easy like you make out. Sure I can go buy a perfect shield or something but some of the rarer skins can take up to a year to find. Finding a perfect Magmas shield would be very hard. Same with crude shields. IMHO I find it way easier to get nice staffs than it is to find good warrior weapons. My staff collection which is made up of 30-40 perfect / very rare staffs is finished way before I am even nearly finished with my warrior weapons.

I dont think you have really looked to be honest as I will go and get you alot of links to rare / expensive staffs in the next few minutes.

i have to agree with the OP

it only took a few days to properly equip my warrior with some high end stuff, but it has taken several months to get my mesmer the appropriate high end gear

Then again, back then, back 8 months ago, it cost me 200k for a 10/10 staff.

@ the herbalizer: Yes indeed, staffs with 10/10 are not that hard to find. That smiting ghostly staff 20/20 you have there is beautiful but that's the only staff in your list of that calibre, for me anyway. And you probably won't sell it?

But I'm actually talking about Platinum wands and Zodiac scepters with two good mods. Those are incredible difficult to find, not staffs with 10/10 (except for example Plat staff). Some mods on staffs are kinda unplayable like I mentionned earlier.

No probs finding perfect warrior stuff? I'd freakin wish I'd find a perfect shield...

I don't think you realize what your saying.

You complain about them never dropping, and then you wonder why they are so high priced? BECAUSE THEY NEVER DROP. lol

Though I agree to a point that they could make fix up some of the mixed mods, because it's honestly ridiculous getting something with two mods from two difference classes with a req from another.

Depends on what you're looking for ofcourse, but you do have a bigger pool of items to choose from, that simply appear on the market.

Perfect warrior stuff should be no problem, but on rare skins it's not that easy too in certain cases I admit. But still nothing compared with the search for let's say a platinum req 8-9 healing wand with 20 recharge and 20 casting time.

Which is why we have greens

No I kinda find it frustrating they don't appear on the market while serpent axes and sephis axes do appear. I'm not wondering about the high price, I don't care, I just wish I could buy one for a high price. (plat wand with 2 good bonus)

@ Bahumhat: yes lol, only prob there's no green monk item yet with the platinum wand or zodiac scepter skin. And I prefer gold over green if possible. Still playing with certain green offhands though.

Farm for the gold for it. That's what everybody else does.

well, i agree with OP as well staffs with dual conflicting bonuses make no sence to me. that said take the other option
i have in my possession a staf just like ghials 20%/20% energy+5 Death+1 20%
but its a collector staff, i paid 10kish k for the +1 20% component and got the staff from collector. in my opionion when you want a good staff that you will use you have 2 options
1 get a collectors staff and mod it
2 get a green staff.
if your REAL lucky youll get a decent drop, but it takes less time to farm the desert and get the money for the mods than it does to wait for the staff to drop.

Such a true statement. I bet there are many more green caster items being used than golds. Come to think of it, my only caster character (monk) uses green items (rajazan for 55 and Scar Eater for healer).

Greens do infact dominate the caster scene.
