guild wars store: weapon skins
William The Smasher
would anyone else like the store to sell not weapons, but weapon skins? like you keep your weapon's same stats, but you can buy a different skin?
for instance i have a perfect shortbow, and the attack speed of the shortbow is required for my build, but ive always found shadow bows to look really cool. i'd love to be able to keep the stats of the bow, but change the look.
any thoughts?
my number one desire is still to change the name of my character though...

That is exactly what i hope does NOT happen. Skins should be free.

Oh yes, lets do this. I'm going to switch my perfect gladius for a crystalline sword and sell it for millions!!!111111.

That would ruin everything, because then nothing would have been accomplished by these people.

you dont need skins, you dont need to buy them. you shouldnt be able to buy them. uhh encourage ebaying fissure ? (oh well anet sells weap skins so it cant be that bad to ebay gold for fissure stuff!!)
hell no
i would like perfect sick skined weapons of my liking as much as the next guy, but you have to work at it. gotta beable to tell pure noob or hardcore players some how. (as vague as it is already)

Heh, nice to see mods can make constructive arguments sometimes... Although I don't really feel there's any need to make one, I'll do so anyway since the careful wording of Skuld left you baffled.
The store should not sell any items that affect ingame play in any way what-so-ever because that would not only completely mess up game economy, but give market power to the 12 year olds and wammos with their moms creditcards. I seriously doubt many players that don't fall into either of those categories really want to be able to buy items at the store.
This game is about competitive fun, not whos dad has the biggest spending account.

What would be the point of having Rare drops then. Make all drops a plain weapon with just stats and then you buy the skin you want? Sounds like a major change to the economy, you pay +600 gold for a key and then you have to buy a skin for RW money.
Sounds sick to me,
sorry, but NO

well to all the people who feel like they should have to work at getting there oh so super cool skins: rangers have it a little differently. see, if i want the stats of a shortbow, i can never use a shadow bow, storm bow, eternal bow, feathered longbow, celestial bow, platinum bow, etc.
keeping that in mind what if they just included everything but the super rares like crystalline and golden pheonix and the likes.
now that i have explained my predicament a little better, does anyone have some constructive criticism or ideas of their own that could help me out instead of saying how bad my idea is?
because weapon skins let you know whether or not the people you are playing with are noobs, right? most of the good players i know prefer collector or crafter weapons because they already come with perfect mods.

Why dont you just go to the thread that suggests that all bow skins drop in all bowtypes.
penguo
The point of bows is for different variety. If you like your bow skins THAT bad, then just dont do stuff that requires a certain bow, or change it up. And also......Every other person you saw would have a crystalline or something of the like and no one would even care about drops.

How many different ways can we all say no?

What's that crashing sound???
Oh yeah, the economy

thanks for all the constructive criticism, guys. i appreciate that everyone could think of a different, yet equally insulting way to shoot down my proposition. i realize now that i'll always be stuck with a stupid looking bow, and i should never ever post suggestions on this forum again.
cheers.
cheers.

YES! You SHOULD be stuck with a stupid looking bow, because the rare skin weapons are for people who WORKED FOR THEM. SO MUCH of GuildWars is aesthetics... why would Anet want to shoot that down. That's one of the only things that keeps some PvE people PLAYING! Having incentive to get the new, cool skin. If you want a better looking bow, go find one.
"Oh, my bow skin sucks. I wish I could just get my parents to buy me a better looking one..."

I can't relate because I love both these skins:

also, I highly dislike the shadow bows...

see, to me both of those bows look like something a fairy would carry around. i want something cool and evil looking to carry around with my black FoW armor
EndoftheSyringe
so it comes down to the fact that you don't like anet's skins
Griev
no F*in way.
Knightsaber Sith
considering that a lot of the high end items cost so much because they have rare skins, making them available to everyone wouldn't neccessarily ruin the in game economy; but it would definitely change it
it would be basically like buying a weapon off ebay but Anet wouldn't care cause they were getting all the profits

that's the same skin as ryver's shortbow (green) that I use; looks real nice with red 15k drakescale armor

yes but a lot of people take forever to get lucky

Nope, sorry. Horrid idea. Skins are part of the content that sells a chapter and should be kept that way. If they start nickel and diming the customer base, they will be no better than Bethesda... trying to peddle litteral junk "mods" and utter trash for real money.
Doing this also lessens the value of each chapter as new skins would hold no value towards the purchase of such chapter.
A move like this would be one of turning GW into Maple Story.

Okay, I think we get the point. The idea is not well recieved. Now insults have been flaring left and right and I think this thread is on its way down.
