A really terrible UW run
Hengis
I have been playing SS in duo Underworld runs for a few weeks now and would go as far as to say I have got pretty good at it!
I have a few regular monks I team up with all of whom message me when they are looking for a partner as they know I am pretty fast and above all that I am honest and will share the drops.
However, late last night, I thought I would do one run more before I went to bed. None of my regular duo partners were online, so I responded to a 605 monk looking for an SS.
All started well, we cleared the first room easily and progressed onto the smites. The first and second groups of smites went down in seconds but when we got to the third, the monk took a route to round up a large group that I had not seen used before and boy did I get into a mess.
Echo timed out.. I managed to agro a group of colds because I was watching where the monk was going and for echo to recharge and not watching the mobs, I then had to run from a stray smite and by the time I got back to the monk and caste SS on them they instantly used smite hex.. Arghh!! Ok, so I killed them all - eventually - after nearly causing the monk to fall asleep with waiting.
On the next group again the monk took a route I was not expecting, and I ended up pulling yet another group of Colds which killed me.
All in all I played the worst SS you have ever ever seen, in fact I was probably worse than that!
I apologised to the Monk and hit the big "X" and went to bed.
So, if you happen to be that unfortunate monk who I teamed with late last night, this is another apology! I really can play better than that.. honest!
Lesson learned - Don't do duo runs when you are tired. In a group of eight your mistakes can be hidden by the rest of the group, but with just two of you, they are glaringly obvious.

I wouldn't worry yourself about it too much....any monk that has been around UW for any amount of time, understands that things don't always go as they are supposed too, ESPECIALLY if they are running with a new partner.......people like to do things different, and unless your a special mindreader....... you get my drift.....

A PuG will always have a few problems to work out as they don't neccesarily know each other's playstyles (I managed to get cerb killed horribly on our first run, doing almost exactly the same thing as you did... only smite hex was a little more spectacular with about 17 smites
).
Best thing is not to worry too much, and just work on knowing the patrols and area flawlessly so you can adapt as well as possible. Alternatively, get a giant friends list of monks so you don't ever have to go with unknowns.

I wouldnt worry about it too much , I've had my fair share of mistakes , no one gets to see them though since I play both characters now , my runs dont always go smoothly..... though getting all the ectos puts a smile on my face anyway no matter what happens!
Another thing I kill most of the coldfires patrols in my way so my ss doesnt have to worry about anything since my time is divided 90% monk 10% ss , sure they dont drop ectos , but they do drop rares and phantom keys occasionally.
Maybe i'll put a video up of one of my runs.

As many stated already, UW can be filled with lots of fun twists. Especially when the aggro system goes bananas on you. Went down last night doing our usual run, grab two groups of smites get ready to tank, but then the two groups started fighting each other instead. To add further insult, the one patrol of Colds (who were quite far away) suddenly aggro'd as well. Maelstrom when not expected is never nice, but getting it when 7 smites decide to turn on you is a problem
Basically, just keep an eye open for strange things happening. You get very used to the patrols etc, where they should be and when they should be there. That awareness is what helps you get the most out of these runs
Don't let it get you down, just keep going back for more

That smites vs smites thing is quite common... for me anyway its total crap they probably have ectos!
And if you try to kill them all together while their lifes are low already , you dont get a single drop.

You'd have to message me in game once in awhile
Smites from the entryway and from the inner waste fight, has to be a developer's joke on ecto farmers...

I remember when the game was bugged so you got drops from henchies/stuff you didn't kill. It was awesome, the smites turned on each other and I got a gold storm bow. It was crappy, but hey, i didn't have to do any work for it.

Thanks guys :-)
I played again last night with a couple of my regular monk partners and my timing and awareness was back to normal.
I still felt better about making the public apology to the anonymous monk whose run I seriously messed up though, even though he will probably never read it.
Thanks again!

I always solo'd UW pre-nightmares and had never done a duo team so post-AoE nerf I decided to give duo a try. I assured the SS I wasn't a nublet and paid the entry fee myself (just incase) and off we went. I then proceed to put my enchants up and run up the stairs and whammo-1 hit dead. I casted SB but didn't even bother to cast PS and then the poor SS died too trying to res me.
Ok no worries-it was my 1k anyways and only took a minute-so the SS agrees that I'm just a little rusty and off we go round two (again on my dime). Double nightmare spawn at the stairs and we get through it and clear out the bulls no problem. I'm feeling better about myself at this point. Ok grasping time-I aggro about 8 or so and seconds later I'm face down ass up. OMG Levi you nublet you casted PS/HB on the quest guy. SS rage quits. I page him saying I'm sorry and he's actually being very cool about it all. I ask him if he wants to go again "third time's a charm" but he refuses and says "sorry bro I need to actually make some money".
No worries I pickup another SS and we clear the smites in record time. I even got compliments on how many smites I was able to tank at once. "Wow I've never seen that many aggroed before!"
Good times.

yea you have some bad ones and good ones... no way around it, especially if youre with a PuG. Like Avarre said, you dont know their play styles so always expect the run to be a little different.

Ever had a nice farming run go sour due to lag? Clear the first room, no problem, 2nd room same easy style. Get to the smites and clear out the first group. Move down to where the smites and cold patrol in a triangle, run down to the bottom and cast enchants.
Well I thought I cast them anyway, so I'm running down to the next group of smties when suddenly I'm back 4 steps, then started teleporting all over the show right into a group of colds
Both die, so we go again. My lag seems gone so all is happy, clear half the first room when I noticed that the grasps and Aatxes don't have SS on them, ask the necro and behold he lags! So we left it at that and made no money

o and my solution wich i have named the anti-pug code due to the anti-farm code...i know im a loser 55 SOLO FTW!!!!!!!!! i know its hard..but 3rd times the charm its all about the practice...practice takes time...and money if u dont have both stick to duo.....*cough 85% of pugs r nubs cough* yes...im a nub dont have to say it...but then again idc cause its just a game and rage quit is lamer then the crappy factions campaign

amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa erm. ok that aside. yes it's not really that big of a deal. I've done a fair share of 55ing awhile back (please..no one ask me to 55 uw with them I've perma-banned myself from uw farming) and I know that doing run after run gets really boring and tiresome. I've actually fallen asleep on one of my uw runs before and died. my ss necro partner accused me of not splitting ecto fairly
of course when i woke up i appoligized and split the ecto.

onerabbit
i go uw with spirit bond monk, we take the route u said, round up the 3rd group of smites, so there about 20+, great fun, but the Colds do get in the way :\ ive aggroed them a few times, but me and my uw partner are crazy :P we do all sorts of mad stuff, trying new things etc
