Scam or Bug?

This has happened twice now so I've decided to ask the question.
Basically, when I'm looking at an item I'm interested in buying we (myself and selling person) open up the trade window. They put the item into the window but a funny thing happens. Instead of the item showing instantly there appears to be a cartoon image of a bearded builder with a hard hat on. You know the type. The type you'd get on a 'Webpage Under Construction' page.

My questions are: Is the seller trying to scam? Have they doctored the item's skin and that's why this image comes up first as it is finding it on his/her HD? Or is it a bug or is my install playing up?

If it is a scam then I'm assuming it's just the skin that has been doctored as the item's stats wheren't anything special.

Please advise as I'm looking for a good stormbow and I don't want to get scammed for the amount of gold I'll have to pay for one of those.

This is a glitch in game. Not sure why it happens as I havn't researched it

My roommate plays this game with me, it's happened as we were trading and I walked next door to his room just to make sure.

To my knowledge, there is no way to exploit this glitch, so I'd feel safe knowing anytime this happens in game you're not being scammed.

Yeah it's a bug. It's a placeholder for images they haven't implemented yet. I know for a few months after Prophecies went live; dwarven ale had that for an icon.

also im not sure if this is a fix for it im just thinking it would work. i used the -image command in the target box ive never had that builder show up since i did that from when i got the game.

ITS NOT A BUG... you are probably running off of a client or have not yet downloaded the information for that item... its probably one of the new items or a item you have not seen yet... it has happened to me sometimes at the trade window it would update the picture... its not a bug that construction hat just means you don't have the image and things downloaded from the information that is being streamed to you (notice the lightning bolt icon on the top right). It will get there eventually.

-image would only decompress your compressed files but the game decompresses files on the fly so the game does not take up too much HDD space.. you can try though it doubt it would help but it does make load times faster ^_^.

if you want references to what im saying... then you'd have to be playing this game for a while because the earliest i found out about this icon was last year around may or june when i wanted to buy dwarven ale back then it was first implemented costing 1k each it had a construction sign over it for the longest time but i could still use it.
