Then when I come back, I load quick into areas.

I used to have cable, but moved to a rural area with no broadband. The phone lines in the area are so old, they don't even support 56k. I was really pissed at first, but I got used to it. Can't wait to move into a new apartment in the near future and get back on high speed though.
Believe me, going from 56k to broadband is like switching from riding a tricycle to driving a V8 Mustang. Much less 28k.

In other words just because your too poor to afford cable you try to say dial up is better without having error 7's? Oh how I beg to differ.

Dial-up connections really do have less (or no) err7s though. :\ I didn't start getting such errors, until I was on a cable connection.

The only time I've ever dc'd with comcast is when my mom moves the freakin wireless modem six inches to the left and my signal strength drops from very good to low.

I noticed that too. I rarely err7'ed when i had dial up and i seemed to do it a little more often (not much) when i got broadband. I dont think this has to do with the broadband, i think it just has to do with ANet, recently more and more err=7's have been occuring. I dont think its anyones internet problem, its the games problem.

I concur!

I've been playing GW on 56k dialup since I got the game last year, and with the exception of GW updates, loading a new area for the first time (or a changed area), and occasionally missions etc with large numbers of players, I have little to no problems with lag.

Some people do seem to have horrible dialup connections, though. I was in RA only yesterday, and two of the warriors on my team were taking ages to load. On the second last match they arrived when the enemy team was at our gate and attacking my spirits. On the last match, they didn't manage to load at all before I and the fourth person on the team were slaughtered.

The fourth person PMed me after the match saying "People with dialup shouldn't play GW." To which I replied, "I'm on dialup "

So rather than pitying us poor people on dialup... save the pity for those with *bad* dialup.

When I move to University in a few weeks time I'll be sharing a 1gb connection with like 1000 other students...it's like a 1.024mb connection each and I'll be complaining about that because I'm used to 8mbs to myself.

Oh woe is me.

Dial-up is still tolerable for playing Guild Wars, but only about 75% of the game. Missions, even AB missions, are do-able, albeit a bit delayed and maybe a bit choppy at times. PvP, like Hall of Heroes or Team Arenas is out of the question. Too laggy in the first place with 8 people per team and fast action, not to mention no chance of using Vent or Teamspeak, which is pretty much a requirement for the higher end PvP.

So, for PvP-oriented players such as myself, I'm relegated to Random Arenas

Even there, though, I can't play an interrupting Ranger, or interrupting Mesmer, for there is no chance of reliably interrupting a skill, and I'm even on fairly decent dial-up. Sigh....

I live in an area with no broadband access, though I regularly make weekend stays at friends' places that DO have cable/DSL, and its a GW fest =)

I wish I was still on dial up, I have a wireless connection... Big dish on top of my house. 2-3 minute lag spikes are not uncommon.

I had been playing on 28.8k dialup for the past seven months until yesterday.

Gameplay is fine, patches not. However,

Sometimes it's not a matter of money- DSL/Cable isn't available in all areas. What I believe s/he is trying to say is that both have their downfalls and their upsides as well.

I know exactly how you feel, I had dial up at one point, but to make things worse, it was AOL 9.0 . It made any other dial up service look like 8 meg broadband... Luckily we got rid of AOL entirely and we're now runnin 4 meg Blueyonder broadband *hallelujah*. Good luck gettin your broadband back!

dial-up doesnt hurt that much when there is no update, but when u need to download an update...

Your connection only affects you when a new update comes and you must load lots of data.

But i can siriously tell you it has absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay.
Guildwars only needs a permanent stream of ~2kb/sec.

I also had a 56k dial up connection and i could play with no lag at all.

Most problems with slow play come from low RAM or an old Graphics Card.

So maybe check or update this .

When I first got 256 I felt incredibly happy....
When I got 1024 I felt complete as a human....
Now I'm on 2048 and I want more....

Bandwidth is never enough.

Well, I'm on 200k (400k at night), which isn't the fastest connection ever used by the human race... but my suggestion for dial-up users is to just leave the game at login screen overnight during big updates, and wait a bit to see if it loads something in smaller updates.. that way you download everything beforehand and other people don't have to wait for you in missions (thus, you CAN still play in human groups without being a burden)

Take heart! I (used to) have dial-up too! When I am at college, me and my buddies (4/6 people in my apartment who play GWs) have highspeed though. Also, when I was at home, I finally convinced my parents last summer to get a high speed connection. It really is stupid how much you pay for some internet services and how little you actually get.

I played Guildwars for a summer on dial-up, and generally it wasn't so bad. Like everyone else has said, it was only bad during big updates. Then I would pick up a Gamecube controller and find other ways to zap my brains.
