I apologize if this has been asked before....
I have a friend who's currently playing Prophecies. When Nightfall is released, will he be able to brng his Prophecies character to Nightfall, or will he have to buy Factions, bring his character to Cantha, play through Factions, THEN buy Nighfall? If Anet is touting each future Chapter as a standalone, is it necessary to buy each Chapter to advance your Prophecies Character to future chapters, or can you pick-and-choose?
Do You Need to Own Factions?

All campaigns are designed to be completely stand alone. You can have any combination of campaigns and add them to your account in any order. All of your characters will have access to all content from all campaigns associated with your account.
Edit* I guess they wont really have access to all* content. As we saw in Factions; content for foreigners was a little different from content for natives. But not a big difference.

Playing or cross playing of different chapters is mutually exclusive to the chapters you own.
You should not need to own Factions to gain as much access to Nightfall as you would with owning all 3. Chances are travel between the continets will be from the boat at LA (since much game lore talks about shipments comming from Elona), OR the boat from Keineng OR possibly some method of travel south of the crystal dessert.
