Is Guild Wars 22 years old?

Ok, after playing this game for a while, and observing how this game and other mmorpg's work, I think that I have found out a way to compare Guild Wars into reality and how these situations that people deal with happen everyday.

I'm not sure if everyone here is familar with the person Eric Arthur Blair. He was an author who wrote many famous novels. His pen name was George Orwell, which is a more recognizable name. During his life span, again he wrote many famous novels, for instance Animal Farm. However, one of his most famous books was one called "1984". It is a story about a negative utopia of oppression and torture. For most people, it is a required high school reading book.

Now, you may be wondering what me telling you this has any relevance at all. Well, it is quite simple. Guild Wars, much like the world, is slowly turning into one of these negative utopias of lack of expressionism and thought.

In the story, the population is ruled by an organization called the Party. The Party controlls all, with the all mighty ruler called Big Brother. No one has ever seen or heard him, people only know he is all powered. Whoever questions him is instantly found by the party. You must love Big Brother. There is also and organization called the Thought Police. These people exist to kill you if you have any thoughts against the party, or if you might have them in the future. That is enough for them to kill you. Also, you must never feel like you really are enjoyed, fully satisfied, so the party can still drag you along with them, like a slimy slug.

Things are also turning like this as well. The party, which we can assume for all intensive purposes is ArenaNet. Their leader, which I am not sure about right now is Big Brother. Big Brother may be a group of people, I dont know. Nobody has really seen them, at least ingame. However, they must not be questioned, no matter what. All over people will flame you, insult you, pound you verbally into the ground making you wonder what causes this type of hatred (ala 2 minute hate consequences). The party has all power. Do not resist them, for anything you do they can turn against you. History does not exist. "Please Anet, I swear I was not botting I just farm for a long time without talking."
Endless messages follow, making you question your own sanity. Automated responses, like "No sir, you were cleary caught cheating, stop trying to lie". It leaves you feeling hopelessness, not knowing what to do. The thought opolice will ban you on any terms.

"Well, after extensive research we have concluded you are 50% likely to use a third party program, or to scam someone in the future, so because of this you have broken our rules and must be banned."

People turn each other in for simple problems, giving the party more and more reason to vaporize people. The best part of it is people are completely unaware of it, it's like a big cult. These people know who they are, but the population ( or proles) do not. Everyone wonders what will happen the next day, will their accounts stay activated. I dont know, please people be aware of what you do, and change the mentality of this game. It has becoming sickinengly similar to all of these "hell-like" scenarioes, and soon who knows how much worse it will become. People should change their attitudes, and especially Anet, who is the root causer for most of the problems.

They're monitoring over a million accounts. They're bound to make some mistakes sometimes; while it's not excusable, it's more than understandable. And from what I've seen, they're willing to hear you out and reverse the mistake.

Stop with the sensationalist comparison to 1984, of all things. Mistaken (and reversable) bannings != arresting you for thoughtcrime.

You make A-Net sound like the NFL. They are humans and make mistakes. Don't compare this to 1984 by Orwell. There is no conspiracy here... except for the seer and the fortune teller.

Very interesting post i agree with some things you say. I realize however a-net is olny human ,but this sure has been happening alot recently. I don't feel safe farming or making trades anymore. I feel that if I farm too much or do something slighty botish than I'll be banned. Now when I farm I'll olny do it in small doses olny 1 farming period a day otherwise im afraid I'll be banned. A-Net your doing a good job, but please ease up on the bots a bit ur scaring us =)

The title of this thread alone makes me laugh, considering you clearly have only a limited grasp of Orwell's work other then what you read in a Cliff Notes book.
"1984" the year is only a construct in a much more symbolic work.

Anyway, more on topic, don't be so parinoid and over reactive.

ANet is intentionally avoiding adding tinfoil headpieces to the game, because it interferes with their (virtual player character) mind control rays.

Experiments leading to the development of these mind rays can be seen going on in Random Arenas district 1, where you can usually see test subjects made to believe they're animals.

I don't think this comparision is fair. They are a company, they OWN Guild Wars, it is their game. It's no like you have to play the game.

From the looks of the last parts of your post, it seems like you got banned and are now just annoyed. However, I could be wrong, I just find your hostility odd.

Intents and purposes, not intensive purposes. Also, the thread title is kinda...weird. Maybe I should get the book from the library. If I can figure out where it is. lol

Someone mind playing Jepordy here for me? Whats the name of that theory that says everything is on a downward deterioration from the time it is made. Anyone know?

I really can't think of anything that will grow exponentially, even the sun itself dies.

And yes, 1984, Animal Farm, and a book called Farenhiet 451 should be read by EVERYONE in the free world.

And on topic, yes, guild wars is goign down hill, ever since ANet became a bunch of sell outs.

Could you give any examples of these "hell-like" scenarios. I'm just not seeing what you're talking about. Your entire post is very vague.

There are indeed many people who get falsely banned for botting/ebaying, but it seems as long as they send a support mail to ANet explaining the situation they always get their account back. At least that's how it worked for everyone I've seen that have posted here about being banned. They always eventually reply within about a day or less saying that they were successfully unbanned.

Could you clarify what it is ANet is doing that makes them "sell outs"? Not sure where this is coming from. ANet is a business, are you calling them "sell outs" because they're trying to make money? Isn't that what a business is supposed to do?

About it going down-hill: If you looked at the state of the game right this instant you could possibly conclude that it is "going downhill" based upon all of the complaints about the lacking quality of Factions, but Factions is only ANets first attempt at expanding the Guild Wars universe.

They first took their time putting together Prophecies, the foundation of the series, then tested the waters with Factions, their first addition to Prophecies solid core. Factions was somewhat dissappointing to many people, but since the people have voiced their complaints more than enough to get the point through, I'm quite sure the design teams are capable of learning from their mistakes and improving where they seemed to fail in game design/marketing, on their first attempt with Factions.

Nothing will beat playing a completely new game through for the first time, or doing most anything for the first time for that matter. But that doesn't mean this game is gonna die out at a rate fast enough that you could call it "going downhill". From the time I was concieved I have constantly been "going downhill" getting closer and closer to death, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy life full and well while it lasts, and the same goes for living out the life-span of Guild Wars. :P

You are actually comparing it to a fictional novel.

1) "1984" wasn't actually reality. It is a sci-fi story with a warning theme about totalitarianism in general, and communism in particular (George Orwell was disenchanted by communism).
2) The next time you see someone getting mugged or raped, don't call the cops. Informing authorities is 1984.
3) I hereby award you the prestigious "most creative oh-noes-anet-nerfed-my-farming whine" award.

I see people complain alot about players criticizing them because they were critical of Anet. I mean it might be that rather than being members of the "party", people are just getting defensive. I mean I don't go into my public library flip-off the librarians, tell them books are for suckers, and then complain when I get dirty looks from everyone in the library. Likewise complaining in-game even if it's understandable is going to get you flamed and ridiculed by the surrounding players.
