I was addressing the posters who were saying that the NPCs are just pixels and that people were pathetic or weird for finding them attractive. Hence the comparison with other ways of reproducing images that the posters saying such things probably find attractive.
Calling this stuff artwork is an industry term and I didn't think anyone would really think I was saying they were qualitatively similar to the Mona Lisa.
Finally, given the way some of these NPCs are "drawn," and the good likelihood that at least some of the character designers are men, I think they probably would be proud that their work had the desired effect.
My choice would be the two women on the Factions box art. I was a bit disappointed w/their in game representations. But over all, I think they've done an excellent job w/ the character designs.

It's the point of the concept art and the art in general, that's why they MAKE it, to APPEAL to the public. That's basically what everyone is saying when they claim a 'pixelated' character is 'hot'. The same thing would apply to if you created your own character, drawn on paper, and a friend saw it and said, "Wow, that character is really attractive."
To which an art teacher would probably reply, "You should focus more on beings that people wouldn't normally consider attractive (stereotypically), every character created these days is attractive in some way or another to the public. People don't want to play heroes that are portrayed as fat slobs, they want buff, strong rendered males and sleak, fit, attractive females."
Words from my own art teacher. And the same thing applies with anything else media-related that has to appeal to the public. Nobody wants to see overweight women in bikinis in Maxim magazine, and I mean no offense to anybody who may possibly be overweight, but it's the truth. Media seeks only the visually appealling to get what it needs done, done.
