NCSOFTs next big money making scam

The price of the game itself is no different to any other game in the market so i won't argue with that Don't know if this has already been discussed but i was just wandering what their next big money making scam will be ???

As i see it their current scams after bringing out Factions were;

1. Prophecies provides 4 char slots, as does Factions, yet unite the 2 and they automatically take away 2 away from us. Yet they are more than happy to charge us money to let us have them back, proving that there was no reason to take them away from us in the first place.

2. All bosses in Factions drop green weapons, most of which can be obtained farming solo. No green weaps to my knowledge can be obtained solo in prophecies. Pretty much forcing Prophecy based players to buy Factions to keep up.

3. To farm the bosses effectively in Factions is pretty much reliant on the Elite skills that can only be obtained from Prophecies. Forcing the new guys from Factions to buy Prophecies so that they can do them solo. (Please don't reply with factions only solo builds i'm generalising).

So what new money making scam will they throw into the mix when they bring out Nightfall? Has anything been clarified? I suppose for any new players that come into the game when Nightfall is released the above will still apply and they will be forced to buy Factions and Prophecies to have any chance of competing with those of us who have been around a while. But how are they gonna get extra money out of us?

Oh and last thing, no ones forcing you to do anything, if you expect its a scam DON'T fall for it, however i see no scam, thus i go ahead and buy, and i really find it funny you had the guts to post it here, people will flame you :|

1. Those 2 characters have access to more content then 4 slots from one chapter. Yes its sorta a way for them to make money but so what?

2 & 3. No one forces you to farm. The end.

I'm just going to dispell this whole thread by pointing out that greens existed in Prophecies half a year before Factions even went live. And you don't need Prophecies skills to farm greens in Cantha. Also, this thread has nothing to do with Nightfall....

Guild Wars ain't a "scam". Period.

WoW, however, is.

Totem Axes as I recall can be easily soloed. Sure they aren't worth much but not many greens are anymore.

yeah..WoW is kinda crappy...you spend couple bucks on the game and then you end up paying monthly..i would never do that

1.) Yeah, I was a bit annoyed that I lost 2 character slots but it wasn't all that big a deal to me. Seemed like a good move on their part but that's just me I guess.

2.) Totem Axe, Kephket's Refuge, Sorrow's Furnace stuff are all solo farmable. I've found greens from Prophecies generally sell for more than Faction greens.

3.) Generalizing? That's like saying (Insert something that kills people here) doesn't kill people... if you don't include all the people that died from it. There are more prophecies builds out there cause prophecy has been out a whole year longer than factions.

I don't quite think of marketing decisions as scams, though I do admit they do make them more money. As it stands, Guild Wars is a game completely free of monthly fees. I think I can let them go a little when it comes to character slots and such.

We need an IQ check before letting people start threads...

combine factions + proph = 1/2 X the characters 2 X the content access
Keep factions + proph separate = 2 X the characters 1/2 X the content access

2. THere is a solo SF build, totem axes are EASY to solo farm, queen can be done w/ 3 people. the list goes on...

It's not a scam man. They are just doing their jobs which is making games. Yes more of the events and updates take place in cantha because it is new. Same will happen when nightfall comes out. If you truely think it's a scam then don't buy it. To many people spend to much time downing nightfall even though it hasn't even come out yet because of factions. If you don't like the way it's going just don't buy it. Some of your generalizations are flawed anyway. Not trying to be a jerk but i'm tired of people complaining over a product that nobody with the exception of a few know that much about.

As far as accounts go, combining them gives you access to all the maps with the same characters. The extra slots for seperate accounts give people who don't have factions or prophecies the chance to try out several builds without being restricted to two slots. If you really want the extra slots just install nightfall as a seperate account.

Ok then feel free to reply with factions only builds that are anywhere near as quick and efficient as using the prophecy only Elites. Explain why most best elites are only available to prophecies and not across the board, it IS NOT by coincidence.

Gratz on providing a couple of nondescript pointless farms for prophecies, woo theres A build for SF greens, when you can do a factions one right outside the exit in 5 minutes or less and get 10 in the time you'll get 1 from SF.

If it wasn't such a good deal nobody would have combined, don't be such a blind and brainless fool, we're gaming addicts, we must have it, thats how we work and they know it, they're gamers themselves. Taking 2 char slots wouldn't be an issue like it is if they didn't offer you them back for a fee, it shows their real reasons in the first place, they ALWAYS INTENDED to charge us to get them back.

I'm not saying either Prophecies or Factions aren't great games and worth the money just asking what they will do to make extra money out of us after we buy Nightfall, simple question, none of the above seem to have the brains to answer. Flame thread....yeh its looking that way :P But forums are here for peeps to give their views and opinions, just try keep it clean!

Seems to me like the world of Guild Wars revolves around green items..

1. Umm... you do realise that NCSoft a real commercial company right? Name me one other company that does not want to make as much money as possible? I think NCSoft and ArenaNet has better ethics and professionalism than most. Why should they give you alot of slots and earn nothing and not give you a few slots and earn more? To get on your good side? That doesn't feed them. Reality check: In business, people do try to come up with ways to get you to part with your money.

2. "Forcing players to get greens to keep up." Keep up with... what? The number of greens I got? "LOOK! I HAVE 25 GREENS!!! I PWN!!!"

3. Yes, of course they want Factions owner to buy Prophecies and Prophecies owners to buy Factions. Reality check: That's the only way they can make money. There's no monthly access fee remember? That's why they adopted this 6-month interval for new chapters. How else do they get the dough to pay their employees?

For some reason, you seem to think that NCSoft is a non-profit organisation. Did you even try to do some calculations? Try adding up the price of Prophecies + Factions + 2 slots. Compare that against WoW and 12-18 months of subscription. Surprised? And you claim that NCSoft is scamming....

Farming is a means of making money, i've spent millions, we all do it, i farm for fun, despite what you think i'm far from a materialistic person and i've given far more greens and rare weaps away to guildies for free than i've ever sold. Sitting in town spending hours spamming sales is not my idea of fun. An auction house for this would be a good idea but thats another discussion for another thread.

What i'm asking is what new methods will they come up with Nightfall, not an argument for or against :P

And why always compare to WoW, why not compare to Oblivian, Final Fantasy, Unreal Tournament, Pro Evo Soccer or any other online game?

This thread is pointless and I hope it gets closed soon. Anet has never forced anyone to do anything and they don't scam.

It's just congratulating Anet on their great job of luring Prophecies owners to buy Factions.

Arenanet trying to stay in business by selling their games as advertised is not a scam. Closed.
