Gold Items Destroyed: Their Future?

Given a choice, I think most people would take the perfect gold with a rare skin over the exact same weapon as a green. Greens are the generic version of golds: they're cheap, they perform just as well, but, well, everyone KNOWS they're mostly cheap to get. Most of my weapons are greens, but I have a few nice-skinned golds that i've found along the way, and to be honest, I'm far prouder of having the poisonous gemstone axe of defense than I am of my green axes, even though the gemstone axe isn't as effective with the bad mod on it...

What it comes down to is that instead of buying golds because they're the most useful weapons, people now buy golds as vanity items, or because the specific combination they want isn't available as a gold. There's nothing wrong withthe economy working this way, making good weapons available at a reasonable price, while still keeping the price of the "prestige" items a lot higher. The price drops you see are because there IS a cheaper alternative. People can buy a perfect weapon for cheap, or they can buy a perfect weapon with a shiny model for a lot more, but they don't HAVE to buy golds to get a max damage weapon.

Greens are abundant, cheap, and perfect.

PvP interested players and those who dont have alot of time to devote to farming will be most interested.

Golds are rare, expensive, and drop < perfect.

PvE players who spend more than an average amount of time playing and those who wish to carry only "the rarest or rares" will be interested.

Dont worry, golds will always be sought after.

The bare truth is that the only one that would want more greens with the really rare skins is a one that cannot afford a gold item. Asking for a green crystalline is rediculous. Just accept the fact that the idea of anyone being able to have a wepon for which rare variant some players have spent millions and millions of gold is outrageous. Some items do not deserve to have a green clone, they are pretty much worthless.

Greens are greens. Golds are golds.
You can't compare the two.

Golds will always sell for more since they can be modded dyed and can have a lower req and a different skin.

Greens are always the same skin always the same color always the same mods, which cannot be changed.

There will always be a market for gold items since there is not a green item with the stats you may want for every item in the game.

I believe that as long both greens and golds keep getting added they will keep eachother balance, there are some greens that sell for high there are some that sell for nothing, same thing with golds.Dont think there is anything to worry about.

I like greens. They (for me at least) have helped me get weapons that I would have otherwise had to pay quite a lot for. For example, with Kephket's Refuge the mods alone would have cost me 50k or more at the time I got it, had I tried to upgrade the collector staff. It actually cost me about 5k. However, being able to buy a green does not lessen my interest in gold items. The only thing doing that is their excessive cost.

I think greens are a way to get a nice weapon for cheap.Compare a green weapon to a gold one of the same stats, the gold one is sold for alot more.
Golds are now more of collector items and for the richer community of Guild Wars.

Here's an illustration of Gold vs Green

standard skin staffs 10/10 --- 15-100k
Insightful Staff Head 5 energy --- 4-6k
Staff Wrapping of Enchanting 20% --- 8-10k

Galigord's Stone Staff --- 8-10k
This staff is 20/20 in earth and +5e w/ 20% longer enchants.

Would you want to pay up to 150k for a comparable gold staff?

~32k for a gold and upgrades is a significant difference from the green that you can get for 10k, especially to people who have no interest in farming.

Ive bought them for as low as 10k. The mods are dirt cheap anyway. If a person has no interest in farming / making gold then I doubt they would worry with golds.

For me Greens are the weapons to customize and use, and the Golds are Investments to be sold when price is right.

I think they should make all greens in a different skin so we have cool greens and cool golds...

It should be much harder to get a green because the prices have drop totally insane like 5K for totem axe and 10k for almost every greens except a few...That's my experince.

That's cause greens drop in the same place, so you can farm them endlessly.

And a green crystalline is never happening. Ever. It's the one sword that is actually ridiculously rare and expensive; ANet isn't dumb enough to piss off the entire upper echelon of players by introducing a green one.

Just the fact that people say golds instead of yellows is something to think about. There is something about golds that greens will never have. A gold item is dropped and authomatically rare. If it has a good mod and req, it's even more rare. Add a rare skin and you have an exceptional weapon. Greens are dropped by bosses, you know where they are. People farm them until prices drop or new greens come out.

I started with blues, moved on with greens and now I want to replace the greens with perfect rare skin golds I like. The search for affordable golds or for those ultimate pieces, keeps a lot of people hooked. It's part of the game.

off topic: More good gold caster item drops pls and less 2-3 cross over mods. the caster community is mainly using greens and collector's because 'playable' golds are a minority on the caster item market. Thank you.

Don't be too sure... When Victo's Blade was released, the Shadowblade was the most coveted skin in the game. (It had only dropped in the beta.)

Actually, I believe some (if not all, I don't pay much attention) of the new weapons in Cantha drop with only modifiers for their respective professions or modifiers for all spells. Which kind of irks me as I wanted an Inspiration Holy Branch. Can't win them all I suppose.

I thought they were all removed from the game (even ones in peoples storage, etc) after the beta?
