ornate shields

Whats the big deal with ornate shields nowadays. I see them sell for (well asking price) a lot of money. Other then the fact that they can be dyed i don't see too much in them. Plus my female warrior looks like she's carrying one on the shoulder when equiped and the shoulder sticks out through the shield . Call me old fashioned but i like a good tall shield and magmas.
