Is there any point to PvE Assassin

After creating my PvE Assassin, buying her 15k Kurzick, a bunch of weapons and what-not, I never really used her. Other than using her for some PvP, which I rarely am able, because I can barely get her any skill points to buy some must-have skills, she can only act as a mule. There are so far no profitable solo farming builds for Assassin, so she's pretty much useless. After giving it some thought, I can't figure out a single reason why to keep her, because all she is doing is wasting a slot. The question is, should I delete her?

Comments please

I actually can do Drok runs with my PvE assassin, Shadow Form works wonders.

I'd say the the point of a pve assassin is that it can be fun. Making a pve character just for the "point" of farming makes no sense to me. As for skill points, my assassin has over 1 mill xp and I bought all the skills for it's primary and secondary.

Well when you don't belive in PvE titles, farming is pretty much the only thing you can do with you PvE characters .

As for skill points, my Assassin has 700k exp points, but I always find myself needing more for certain PvP builds. I think I just need some way to get her more skill points other than power leveling, so she can be used in PvP.

Here is a build I used when I had Kill Mur setup as a R/A at one point in time. I tried this R/A build as a Pure Assasin Prime and it helped me appreciate the Assasin class a whole lot more. My Assasin is setup as a A/Mo with the only Monk skill being Ressurect. Oh get the Ungues of Onis or the Green Ceremonial Daggers. I use the Ungues and run into hardly any energy issues.

In my opinion, when ANet opened Fort Aspenwood (and Jade Quarry to a lesser extent) to PvP characters, PvE assassins became nearly obsolete. It's a cryin' shame, I'll probably delete my PvE assassin to make a character that will actually be able to finish the Factions campaign.

I don't know what you people are talking about, I started an assassin and
haven't been able to put him down since. Assassin are the most fun
character in the game. If farming is your idea of fun, well... you just really
need to go find a second job. You just don't know how to have fun.
I play with other people and it's just fun to play the game with them.
There's nothing in the game worth farming for that can elcipse having
some fun playing it with real people.

I think you need a Wo/mo.

I have almost the same build as this, except my assasin has the second as a necro for Plauge touch, no attributes in any necro skills, all assasin, my skill base is the same as his except for my elete. Temple strike, will daze and blind your target, this with daggers that extend daze by 33% can render any monk or spell caster useless, and kill them in less then 15 seconds.

Conditions are defeated by Plauge touch which puts it back on the player who gave it too you. My armor is shouded, although any armor can be used.

Yea I found that I like using the R/A build as a A/Mo because I get better mileage out of Dagger Mastery and Critical Strikes. The R/A build is great but it starts to lose gas damage wise once you hit the Lvl20+ enemies.

Q. Is there any point to PvE Assassin
A. YES!

As Knightsaber Sith & Hephaestus Ram pointed out, PvE is about having fun.

After desposing of Shiro I had shelved my Assassin. Last night I brought him out and used him to help guild mates do some of their quests. I enjoyed the experience.

It takes a while to find a build that is effective. And I admit it's very hard to get into a PUG even after you have. Myself, I waited till guild mates were on to do missions. And henched it through the quests when I was alone.

So if you're not having fun with the character then by all means delete it. But if you do enjoy the unique abilities of the Assassin, then just have fun.

At which point I tried out a crit-barrage build and I really like it.

I have fun with my assassin. I guess if all you want to do is farm mad loot, an assassin isn't really for you. I play mine to unlock skills, get quartermaster credits, fun, etc. Works great.

I have the same problem. I made an assassin and took her through the starter area, then to Kaineng. I then bought her 15k armour, and some nice weapons, and since that day I have not used her once. I must admit that while I was playing with her on the starter island I had great fun, I thought it was really fun to play an assassin and string attacks together. But because of the bad reputation assassins have, how hard it is to find a group, and how much I hate Cantha, I just don't play my assassin now. I've been thinking about deleting her for a long time, but the fact I spent so much money on her means she has remained taking up a slot.

I wish my assassin was a ritualist.

I wish my assassin was a ritualist. Step 1: Goto Tyria
Step 2: Start doing missions, you'll be accepted in PUGs easily
Step 3: Start doing your combos and kick butt (PUGs will be very pleased with you)

You can do runs in Kryta, Maguuma Jungle, Desert (once you get to Augry Rock).

My Assassin is at the 2nd last mission in Canthas, and is at the Iron Mines in Tyria. So much fun, so easy to get into groups (in Tyria anyway).

Okay I'll take my ass to Tyria. I hope you are right about Tyrians not being prejudiced about assassins joining their group like the Canthans were.

You'll get your jerks out there too. But it's less populated with sins, so more spots if they have one open. They're also curious. So don't waste our image puhlease!

I finish Tyria and get the Protector of Cantha title before other charactor I have.

there are less hate of Sin in Tyria. so it is easier to get a group.
regardless where you are, as long as you are not being an Ass then people will be happy to have you arround.
in fact it is wrong to say that Assassin are useless in PvE, there are some mission that Assassin can be extremely usefull.

example 1: Aurora Glade, if you have a Sin with high Shadow art and equipped with Shadow of Haste. the rest of the team can all goes for the bonus because you can tune the portal way faster then the enemy can because you run faster and you teleport back for the seed. it is much easier to achieve with a Sin arround.

example 2:Abbadon's Mouth. there is a place where a monk boss team up with a mesmer boss, if we attack one, the other will heal or interupt us. on that mission , it is my Sin keep distract the monk boos from healing the mesmer in order for the team to kill his and defeat teh monk boss later.

example 3: Eternal Grove. a good Sin can kill turtle without help from any other team mate ( a little from monk maybe) so that rest of the team can focuz on the gate defence. For the last group of Afflicts, tank and MM is busy with the invading afflicted and nuker can walk into the aggro for sure. the backline monk and ritualist of afflicted usually having good time keeping their front line healthy to breach the gate. it is a Sin's job to kill these Ritualist and monk so that the frontline afflict can be killed much easier.

the job of Sin in PvE is to distract / kill the backline supportive char of the aggro to ease up the burden of the tank, mm, nuker .......

it is the bad Assassin and people's perception make Assassin useless, a good Sin is really a boost for the team.

i'd like to see that dual UW build as well!

in my experience, sins are challenging class to play. that makes me not get tired of my sin. i enjoy pve more than pvp so i make sure i enjoy all the classes i play.

if you want to farm, a monk, a necro or a warrior are your best choices.

agree with you, solo farm isn't assassin's job (I don't mean it can't) however Sin is more of a group player and group play is more fun (can't chat arround). showing off that one is a Sin not an Ass

I love to play Sin, except getting inot group is harder.

maybe we need a Good PvE Sin to write am article on "Art of Assassination in PvE Ralm"

and i've been going back to shing jea island and offering free help for the missions there. more than just helping, i guess i want to show people that sins can be an asset to a group, no matter how small.

and it feels good to help out! for me, it's paying it forward. coz i've had people help me out when i was starting as well.

you know, guilds like [GEAR] ban that word [talking about "noob"].

oh, i meant with my other characters. my assassin is my only canthan-born character. when i was starting out with GW, people helped me out. i had to learn what being an assassin is all about the hard way as well. tasted my first death in zen daijun for being reckless lol.

if you want a challenge and don't give up easily, then play the assassin.

* just want to reinforce the point on not giving up on a challenge: i played vizunah square 3-4 times before i got it right the 5th time. it wasn't me though, it was because the tyrian party gets mhenlo killed all the time! the only time i was able to finish the mission [and around a minute away from masters, no less], was when i was lucky enough to have ALL HENCHIES in my group, both canthan and tyrian people.

I wouldn't delete the character even if it does kinda suck. I have an assassin that I never play too. Fortunately, Anet now allows players to purchase extra character slots for $10. If we were still limited to 4 or 6 characters per account, yeah, I'd say delete her if you aren't using her. But if you've got 10 bucks to spare, just buy another slot. That way you can eat your cake and have it too (or whatever the saying is).
