I wish to find out if they are any others out there like me, loves to play Guild Wars, but is plagued out the dreaded lag beast.

For myself, I discovered that during early mornings, around 5am ~ 9am (GMT +8:00), there is no lag, no lag spikes. But during afternoon, or evenings, the lag is horrible, loading screens while map zoning can take minutes instead of the usual 10 to 15 seconds.

This does not stop me from playing Guild Wars though, my work requires me to wake up early, so I play a bit during the mornings before I head off to work where the connection is smooth and lag free.

=======================

Are there anyone else out there in Riverside Inn who shares similiar experience with me?

Just a question, have you updated your computer? If your Video Driver, Sound Driver or even your version of Windows is outdated, you will get lag.
Also, make sure you have at least 20 GB of free space on your hard drive, and at least 1 GB of RAM.

That being said, I have been having some issues with lag at what could be called peak hours. I was playing at 8 a.m. GMT and I was lag free, but when I played again at 6 p.m. GMT I had lag.

I'm in Malaysia as well. Not sure whether my streamyx is the same speed as yours. Are you paying RM88 or 66? But anyway i was experiencing a 1 second lag when i cast spells. and loading can be slow at times but other than that not much lag. But i wouldn't know now after that lightning storm a few days ago fried my modem.

Curse You, can you help a blond female? why do I need 20gb of free space, and how do I create that when one drive (phsyical) is 30gig and the other 40gig (phsyical), both realtivly full, and GW runs of e: drive, not c: where my OS is located (both on the same physical drive).

I get lag issues when someone is using our network for downloading a lot of stuff, when my comp needs rebooting (about once every 1-2 weeks) and when my taskbar is full of other processes running.

i run into lag pretty much all the time. i also am running the game with minimum requirements in my comp. my problem lately has been after playing the game for over an hour or so straight i lose my connection.

i have updated all my drivers and all. i think part of the problem is i'm usually playing during peak times times when nearly all the districts of an area are full. also i have hardly and ram so when too much goes on on the screen i lag really bad and even lose connection.

i also noticed when i'm in a group of all players, no henchmen, i will lag depending on connections of other players and if there's a necro with minions i lag so much it makes it impossible to play.

so i will chalk up my problems to my crappy 5yr old computer. for the rest of you as someone already said, update your drivers for your graphics card, sound card and modem. and if you go under options in game you can have the game detect the best settings for your computer. i did this and of course it put everything at the minimum. also more ram can help with the lag problem. if your like me and only running 256mb's than upgrade to at least 512mb or ideally 1gb of ram (if your motherboard can handle it, check your paperwork or manufactorers website).

You need to have a bigger hard drive, the smallest one I have is 80 GB, the other is 120 GB. I meant to say that having about 20GB of free space helps, but is not a requirement.
It is still sugested that you have at least 10 GB of free space when you play most modern games.

Personally, I have 17 GB free space at the moment, and am working on freeing up more by transfering all my programs to my larger secondary drive.

DSL - Lag happens but is rare.

It's not an every day occurance and for the most part, does not affect me but it does happen. When it does, it doesn't bother me, but then again, it's mostly pve. I can't blame Anet due to can't rule out FFXI running on PS2 downstair or running other apps that take up bandwidth in the background.

Very severe lag at time of this post in Fort Aspenwood. Not just me complaining, but probably half the players there were experiencing bad lag including server disconnects, error 7. My connection is 4 megabit per second.

Tests indicate no problems with my internet connection.

There is a severe lag problem. Not everyone seems to have it. It may be an upstream problem with ANet's ISP.

Experiences lag: I usually get no lag, but recently my connection to Anet has been terrible.

Last night i had 4 error 7s in a row from just logging in.

Log in, error 7.
Log in, error 7.
Log in, map teleport somewhere, error 7.
Log in, error 7.
Log in, map, farm, kill everything except 1, right before i pick up my loot, error 7.
Log in, map, walk to skills guy, error 7.

< sarcasm> ^_^ its fun </ sarcasm>

Seriously. Ive had more error 7s these past few days than ive had in MONTHS. And it isnt me, cause im still on vent, irc, trillian, firefox, and running itunes and those are fine and not lagging (internet or processing wise). Ive been running guild wars like this for MONTHS now.

Hi,

I have the following specs (laptop PC, 512 RAM, 40GB harddisk with > 2G freespace, 64MB graphics card, ADSL cable connection max 1Mbps)

My lag started once I got the Factions expansion...ESPECIALLY with the Cantha City maps. For the first couple of minutes I have horrible lag and then it lessens during time.

The Kurzick and Luxon maps though are just fine. A slight noticeable lag but nothing too annoying.

In PVP the dreaded Cantha City map has cost me many RA losses! I hate it.

I have almost never encountered any lag in the Proph. campaigns.

I don't know why the Cantha City maps lag so much but I am really hoping that it will not be the same case with the upcoming Nightfall release. If it is, I might have to consider upgrading my laptop.

Hi, Im not sure whether it's a Client side problem, or a Server side problem, but it can sometimes take me half a minute to get up a flight of stairs. Constantly getting warped back to the bottom when I reach the top.

I'm sure somone else out there gets this problem, and not just with stairs either, sometimes brushing the edge of a wall whilst running will have me warped back to it after I am 5 or so meters passed it.

I'm on ADSL in QLD Australia.

I'm also running that game on max everything, although I don't think it's a Computer problem.

It's been laggy for a few days now.

Saturday While attempting masters on my rit, my whole party and the Stone Judge just stood there for a few minutes before I got disconnected.

Last night While helping friends with Dunes of Despare, I missed 2 whole battles due to lag. They killed the worm and the Mesmer boss, while I kept running back and forth between the two locations with all eight skills flashing.

Does it bother me? I think the main reason it's bothersome to me is cause my gaming experiance was lag free until factions was released. I'm worried that with nightfall it will only get worse. In fact, guild wars is the only online game I experiance lag with, and it never used to be that way. Ahhh! the good ol' days.

I dont have any lag... but then again non-technical people seem to mean all sorts of things by "lag".
I do often get err 7 these days. I can play for a half an hour just fine with no visible problems and then BAM! game freezes for about a minute and then err 7...
Seems like at some point GW server just abandons my session and client gets stuck thinking it should be logged in while it is not.

yes it bothers me.....I even MADE a new computer last month because of the lag from factions.............and guess what ....I have it again!!! BRAND newcomputer made specifically for this dumb game----no other programs on it (keep getting that annoying message from windows telling me I have no virus programs etc).....it has 100gigs free so no space issues....all my windows updates are updated......and last night was the worst!!! got dissconnected twice and then one of the people in our pug got err7......and then we had horrible lag trying to get to the next town ( hit skill.....wait for 1/2 minute, and gee guess what I am dead....happened during the lag my guildee says--you just stood there and died AAAAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!).
so yes, lag is really getting to me.

That's exactly right Ira. Things play fine for hours, then a huge lag-spike occurs for about a minute. You have about a 50-50 chance of coming out of the spike or getting an err=007.

It's like the GW datacenter has a server(s) that just drop existing connections from time to time. And the reason I KNOW it's not on my end, is that when I log back in, several people are also complaining on AC about an err=7 spike.

Canada, East Coast and Midwest are particularly hard hit.

It's either a GW datacenter issue or a internet backbone issue. Gotta be.

EDIT: Oh, and the err=007s have occurred equally in Cantha and Tyria.

Virtually no lag in PvE ever except if I go to an International District. In PvP however, that's an invitation to major lag-spikes and error=7s.

Have you people tried turning down your Graphics settings? If the issue started with Factions, it may be that your computer has trouble with the more complex graphics of Factions areas. I tried turning my graphics down once when having lag, it cut lag in half.

Since the last update I have around 30+ 007 errors and tons of near disconnect lag spikes. Before that update I recall one 007 error. I have seen 1/2 of a team drop out at the same time. So, I know its not my side that is the problem and wish I could go into a match/mission knowing that I can complete it. I hope they fix it before the event this weekend.

Just like Zubey said, tons of err 7's in the last 4 or 5 days. GW ran great for me throughout the last thirteen months, now........ crap. Not the computer, not the cable company, not a virus. Seems to me like it started when this whole Germany thingie began. :S

I just did my first Alliance Battle tonight. With TS active, I was getting
constant lag. Once I shut it down the game ran fine. Wonder if it has
anything to do with your problem?

I'm going to fool with it and see if I can figure out what the problem is.
I have a USB headset now, don't remember having this problem before.
