...who was dissapointed and sort of peeved at the phoenix skin? I always thought phoenixes were made out of fire, but really the phoenix in game looks like a giant parrot, infact, I named mine 'Polly' because all the newer players keep saying 'OMG COOL PET PARROT, POLLY WANNA CRACKER?!' and such...

And to all Dev's out there, i'm not criticising, i'm just saying it could of been a tiny bit flashier for an elite pet. Just look at the spider. It's the size of a dog. Its shell has a really cool colour ( i.m.o ) I think the phoenix could be bigger, or firey, or perhaps have a special fire-related skill, like a bear will use Brutal Mauling on occasion.

Your opinions?

Lore Difference.

The ASIAN Pheonix (Fenghuang) is as presented. With different colors of plumage.

You are more likely to know about Egyptian Pheonix lore about a bird that is born and dies in Flames.

If guildwiki was online right now, you can go google it.

The egyptian phoenix is the one you describe ( see /rank 12 )

End-game phoenix = chinese phoenix. Exactly like the pet looks like.

Do you people never check GuildWiki, or do you just not know it exists?

The Phoenix in Factions is not an Egyptian Phoenix, it is a Fenghuang (Asian Phoenix). You must be thick to think that they would have an Egyptian beast in a Asian based game.

I'm a huge fan of Asian/Chinese lore, so I was pretty excited that they actually made the phoenix look like the Chinese FengHuang.. except a lot less flashier than how many statues and reliefs portray it (think peacock). Would've been SO kick ass if they had a Chinese dragon for a pet... but when I first saw the phoenix, I thought it looked somewhat like a cross between the traditional Asian phoenix and a dragon (just looking at the head, it sort of has a reptilian look, I'd say)... so yay to that. A Chinese dragon woulda' been even harder to accept, I guess.. since it really looks nothing like a Western dragon.

Believe it or not, I was WORRIED they'd make it a Western/Egyptian phoenix...

Some people have complimented my pet while some others have called it an ugly chicken or done the, "Polly wanna cracker?!" bit.

I'm glad its based more off the Chinese FengHuang, I only have one issue with it. The heck is up with the horn...

I prefer the Wolf as I am more of canine person and the Dragon is more European. When you look at Norse or Viking long ships at bow you will see the head of a Dragon as when in fog that was the breath of the Dragon so there is lots of lore in Northern Europe.

You could use the same nit-picking at words with Factions.

Shing Jea and Kaineng area are the only ones that really hold true to Asian standards...

Nothing to "Asian" about Goth looking pale people that live in trees.

The traditional 'fiery' Phoenix (Bennu bird) have never been made out of fire! They're bird with a red and gold plumage that at the end of it's 'natural' life creates a nest out of cinammon twigs and then ignites it. Both nest and bird burn fiercely until only ashes are left and from said ashes rises a new young phoenix.

Phoenix does look like what we saw in game, but that's only for female phoenix (with rainbow color) while the male phoenix should look black and ugly.

Commonly now the Chinese Pheonix is only thought of as feminine - While the Dragon is its masculine equal.

--------

BTW, if you want a parrallel in common culture, The Pokemon "Ho-oh" is based off the Chinese Pheonix, Hohoh is actually how the Japanese refer to the bird (actually "hō-ō" but whatever)

The tree part maybe, but you really should check out kabuki theatre, the Kurzicks look a lot like Kabuki actors, especially Danika.
