Mo/A - A horrible idea or a brave attempt?
Lawnmower
I just realised that monks look pretty cool with a pair of daggers. Made me wonder if it would be possible to have a viable combo with these two, in both PvE and PvP?
What do you think?

All the rage in GvG builds at the moment is the Recall/Return + Dark Escape Mo/A. Of course, no daggers used...don't know what you have in mind there.
The Assassin 2ndary provides access to some tasty skills for the evasion of melee attackers.

...and live? Sure, they can possibly endure the damage that they would take in melee, but assassin's attack skills cost energy, the monk won't be able to manage energy in that perspective as well as an assassin can. This is also why monks shouldnt use marksmanship with rangers.

Not and be effective. It would be fine for PVE I guess but anything runs there. Don't even think about it in PVP.
xiao1985
seen an ele/a using dagger doing AoD>shock>FS... but that's the best i've seen so far... maybe a SoJ then FS?!?!?! LOL that'd be fun

I'd have to stamp "horrible idea" on this one.

Ele/A has the energy as well as the elemental damage buff to pull off the ability to wield daggers effectively. If you want to go smiting, you go an assassin and do it that way.

Hmmm
It's just because I think the canthan monks look so sweet with daggers.
What if you where to create a frontline healer? an offensive healer?
one to quickly go in and do the finishing touches, hurry away, and heal up?
there has to be a way that a monk/a will be able to be effective, with both a healing staff and a couple of daggers as secondary...
if there ain't then im gonna find a way to let that be useful...!!!

The problem being that surprise only goes so far... they won't fall for it the second time around...

crazyloof
most people rag on this build since the monk does have low armor rating but ive ab'ed on my monk as mo/a with a jagged strike -> fox fangs -> horns of the ox -> falling spider build kind of like the r/a build, my suggestion is max out prot and dagger mastery, get shield of regeneration, this gives u +40 armor regen and +10 hp regen i defeated warriors, ele's, sin's... anything with this although it is more of a novelty build, if this does become popular i declare my build the first official!

Why would you use savage slash it has been nerfed no Warrior uses that anymore atleast sword and they do a have better disrrupts anyway think of kiting or just use some of those nice protections skills or even smiting works way better.

achilles ankle
Mo/A Dagger/Smiter
12 Dagger mastery
14-15 Smite(major/Sup Rune)
8 Shadow Arts
Rest in Prot
Note: there is no res in this build so it would probably be better for AB and the aspenwood/jade quarry maps.
Enchant with strenght of Honor
Golden Pheonix Strike>Horns of the Ox>Holy Strike>Signet of Judgment>Falling Spider Reversal of Fortune and Shadow Refuge when needed.
Take the +5 energy daggers(Havnt tried Zealous Prefix but it might be nice...i take health suffix) and i take the tattoo Body,Arms and +10armor while enchanted Legs and Feet. Have to allow a little regen time but it is "assassin oriented" so you will not be taking on countless numbers of enemies in a row. Have fun and would love some feedback

I've never tried attacking with my MO/A. I do love shadowstepping though. Being a monk can be way boring. The red bars can only entertain you so much. Popping around in a cloud of purple and black smoke makes the whole thing much more fun.
Some other fun to be had with a shadowstepping monk....
- In pve, return on your party's warrior after a battle to get to your drops quicker.
- In pvp its a great joy to have a Wammo chase you half way across the radar and then turning around, waving and releasing recall.
Of couse, you will get the foaming droolers who insist no monk without /Me is of any value. Be sure to bring Dwayna's kiss with these types. It works well in combo with their Mending.

While I have seen several viable Mo/W melee builds, they rely, to a large extent, on adrenaline based attacks and use themselves as a vessel off of which to smite and heal themselves with vigorous spirit. The problem I see with using dagger attacks is the lack of energy management. That being said, there are things like golden lotus strike that may be quite useful to a monk; pop up front, use it, and then kite back.
