So lemme get this straight....your not going to buy the game if big swords aren't in the game? And stop playing Guild Wars all together, because of "great swords"?

Your probably getting bored because you lost interest in the storeline, or stopped finding things to do, becaues GW is your life.

If you base buying a game purely on how big the swords in the game are, or how powerful the swords are, it won't take you long to lose interest in the game itself. Its stupid.

My advise to you, be a Dervish.

Um, no. Two Handed swords actually exist in real life.

When people think of two handed swords they automagically in vision the Cloud stereotype.

Maybe another class is in order for double handed swords, axes etc. Could very well be an offspring of the Warrior class. You can call it the Mercenary class or something, Offering less armor for better weapons.

But two handed weapons of other types shouldn't be excluded from the game.

pet the cat/dog
take a break

if you are simply playing even though it isnt fun that is something to pity.

Read it.

The need of a Two handed or bigger swords is not psychological. Which was the first part. The request for two handed swords coincides with popular RPG staples.

The second part is Cloud from Final Fantasy, who wields the biggest fantasy sword in the known gaming industry. But there are actual swords that need two hands to properly wield(i.e. Its heavy). There have been plenty of RPGs with two handed swords in it, including WoW.

Also, I wasn't suggesting another class with no armor. People who can't play assassins need armor to protect themselves from their lack of skill and knowledge of the class. Just like the people who think that Mesmers are stupid.

Any other comprehension help you need? Or should I break it down again?

I played in the beta and back then the Long Sword was a Two-hander. Never wondered why of all the swords it is the largest of all. And yes they did use the hammer animation (ie overhead swings). So Anet had intended to add them but for some reason decided not to go with it. So to those who like the idea Anet might add it later on.

Have a nice day all.

Can you please 'break it down' for me why we are talking about some stupid anime game? The FF swords ive seen in ads/websites look no different than a Felblade. Also, you did specifically say 'a warrior class with less armor that does more damage' so Im to assume you are talking about something similar to an assassin, which is a melee that does more damage than a warrior, has less armor, wields a weapon in both hands, and as you said; great skills that allow for a different kind of playstyle i.e. shadow stepping.

If youre going to quote me, be sure you are talking about something relevant to my post, whether I make a sarcastic remark, an opinion, or factual information. Otherwise you are just trying to cut up my words for your own gratification... or whatever your reasoning is. I dont know why you are so fixated on my posts, but please stop replying to them with your pissy little attitude.

Apparently sometimes my jokes go a little over some people's heads. My bad.

They would have to make 2 handed swords for a class other than warriors.

Warrior swords and their related skills are balanced for their damage range and attack speed and the fact that you can use a shield with them.

There is no way they would include 2 handed swords with the same attack rate and damage range as 1 handed swords for warriors, because the 2 handed would be at a sever dissadvantage to 1 handed swords with a shield.

To balance it, they would have to make 2 handed swords about the same attack speed and damage range as hammers and scythes. Since there are difference in speed, they would have to have their own Vamp upgrade that is 5/1 instead of the normal 3/1 sword upgrade.

Also, a slower attack rate means that adrenaline builds slower, so many of the sword skills wouldn't recharge as quickly, meaning that they couldnt' be used as often, there buy dropping the DPS output of a 2 handed sword.

So if they want to add 2 handed swords for a new profession, then I'm all for it. But for current warriors, I think balance would be next to impossible at this point.

To be honest, the 3 weapons are all you really need - axes are designed to have their unique feel, swords to have theirs, and hammers to have theirs. If you mix it up by changing what the weapons do, much like with paints, you get an icky brown mess.

(tries to make peace between Omega X and Horseman)

Look, the Scythe is a great example a another 2-handed weapon being introduced in the game.

So far we have Swords, Axes, Hammers, Bows, Wands, Staffs, Daggers, Scythes and Spears.

I see no reason not to assume at some point Guild Wars will have a profession that carries a two-handed sword. There have been many ideas for another warrior class with less armor, but more HP. Or 80 armor, but with something else to make it different from Warrior ("Rage" vs Adrenaline, for example).

Nightfall, however, will NOT include two-handed swords, so I suggest anyone basing their purchasing decision on this factor wait for the "Berserker" (or whatever) Profession to come out in a later chapter.

That is, assuming those who don't want any more new classes don't get their way...

The only way to introduce a two-handed sword to the existing warrior is to call it a hammer (blunt or slashing damage?), and have it use Hammer skills.

That's not a solution I think many people want.

That's why I suggested an additional class, a spawn of the Warrior class. Named it Mercenary(could be called something else), and to keep the Warrior class from being obsolete, you tune down the armor a bit and change the focus of the class. That way you can add, dual hand swords, dual hand axes, and Or a special type of single handed hammers with a guard of some type that is linked to the class, to keep other classes from exploiting the secondary class slot.

But I got assassin remarks instead. Because god forbid that you don't need to be a tank in order to be a melee class.

Yeah, I totally agree. I think any of the "hate" for a two-handed sword in this thread is directed more at the attitude of the OP, than the idea itself.

I hope that's the case, anyway.

Anyway, Anet just introduced two new "melee" classes. Yes, I'm including Paragon as melee, because with 80 armor, I just don't see him standing in the back. He's going to aggro, and he's going to try be at the center of stuff "Shouting" at others (perfect, because shouts are currently not counterable). If anything, I see the Paragon as more of a "tank" than even the Dervish (someone who draws attention and takes damage), while the Dervish will be best utilized to do lots of damage to mobs surrounding the Paragon or Warrior.

I've probably got it completely backwards of what will actually happen, of course.

Hey cool. Thanks for posting that. I've love to see a 2-handed sword that simply uses the hammer skills and animations. Then there are no balance issues. The "colossal pick" almost makes the cut as a 2-handed axe..

Well, I'm pretty sure that shouting will be countered some kind of way in In Nightfall along with about 300 other skills they are going add.

In the first chapter Arena Net made a brilliant medieval fantasy RPG. After that, ArenaNet, was just commercial. Made an Asian theme for an Asian market. Now pretend to make an African theme for what? An African market? That exists?
Many people like to play RPG as warrior, and will be brilliant to have new medieval weapons and correspondent skills, like the 2 hand sword (the weapon of the kings), or a crossbow.
The question is: Can ArenaNet be brilliant again?
Let’s wait and hope so.

I don't need big swords.
All I need is something that can hold 2 weapons at the same time.
Call this class a barbarian or something, an absolute brute that hacks through enemys by swinging two axes/swords/hammers at the enemy at the same time.
Although i don't see that happening any time soon.

I recall reading a concept class with similar abilities somewhere, but just ended up with a majority of people saying that it would be no different from a Warrior.

You know what? If ANet doesn't give my dear Crest an ability to change her primary profession at will (and be available only to me) and give her Base Defense, I'm leaving the game. So there.

Also, on a more serious note, that two-weapon wielding class you were talking about...that would be the Diablo 2 Barbarian.

I think could be funny have new kind of characters, the problem is, in real partys no one want them. I prefer a development of the skills of the original ones, and why not a new skill attribut class like 2 hand sword.
