The average player
Addone_Abaddon
how much money do you think the average gw player should have, I have 3 PvP characters, 1 level 20 prophecies PvE character and the 2 level 5 factions characters, I've had prophecies since may and factions since july, I have 60k overall. I think that's lower than average.
Just in other people's opinion (I'm not saying I'm an average player) what an average player should have in terms of characters and how much money they should have.

What is average?
majoho
If you only play the game I would say what you have is average'ish
Silent Kitty
Lol, I always thought the average player was constantly broke because they always buy better armour and weapons. At least, that is what I did.
Arya Nibelrund
I think Anet once wrote about the average money players had. If I remember correctly, most users had between 20k and 70k. Of course I'm an exception

chessyang
around 100k +/-
just going from experance. before i was farming and became heavy into buying/selling i had about 100k. mostly it was below 100k but always had enought to get buy.

Paperfly
About 800 hours on the clock, I've never gotten past 50K without seeing something shiny I wanted...
In practice, this was probably a bad move, since I've never been at the threshold where "it takes money to make money" kicks in. I'm also not particularly interested in haggling for top prices for my drops, so it's not like I've not had opportunities to make a lot more.

milias
I think I read somewhere that 75% or 50% of GW players have less than 15 or 20k.
Mournblade
Do you want to count armor/equipment in what you consider 'average money'? Because that would make a huge difference. Sure, most players may only have 20-50k on hand, but take myself for example. 30k in the bank right now, but I have about 2mil worth of gear on my characters!
Anarion Silverhand
As Milias said, most gw players have less than 20k, and I think it's because they want "perfect gear" and waste their money, when collector Items do just fine.
Addone_Abaddon
so I'm actually ok, I've completed factions aswell, got shiro's sword, should I sell it, if so, where and for how much?

im constantly broke becuase i chest farm
Mordakai
About 500 hours playing, 70k.
No 15k armor, no bought weapons (all found or collector).
Frankly, I don't think you can be much cheaper than I am. So, I'm probably what an "avg" player could make if he didn't farm, just played the game and didn't waste money.
On another note, it seems money is easier to get in Factions. My Necro already has 13k, at 30 hours, much more than my other characters had at that time. (he's taken no money from my bank).

In more than 1 year of GW I've never had more than about 50k. That may not be much, but I never felt like I NEED much more money. I was always able to buy the skills and armor I wanted. I never felt the need to go farming or to trade much with other players. I spend money as I gain it.
Having said that, I never went for high end items. Stick to cheap crafter and collector stuff. You get 90% performance for 10% of the price, compared to prestige armor and green weapons.

I've been playing since april and have around 80k
I have 15k armor, but the armor and materials and runes for it all came from the sale of the best chest drop I ever got.
My Ranger (only char I realy use) has about 20 bows only 1 of which I bought, the rest I got in trade or drops.
I also have "Treasure Hunter lvl 3" title as well as "Adept Skill Hunter lvl 2" title, so I've spent PLENTY of money.
It comes and It goes.

I think it greatly depends on your goal in-game. If it is to have fun and play the game, then money is probably not your biggest concern, and you will probably have all the money you need through questing and doing missions. However, if you plan to hoarding "perfect" items, then yea, that's a different goal, and it certainly costs more.
Personally, lately, I've been trying to get Protector of Tyria titles for all my Tyrian toons. So I haven't increased my monetary worth by very much, but I am certainly getting closer to those titles

1600 hours over 15 months..
75k in storage atm, and going up, aiming to keep it hovering at 100k.
5 sets of 15k armor on different charas, rest having Drok's armor (10 slots total, 1 PvP)
I'd estimate that I've worked something around 600k-800k gold in total during what I've played, never been very happy on farming (some ettins on my Warrior and few trolls on my monk, tho trolls were mainly to get skillpoints to get the elites)
Most of the gold is in my 15k armors, monk has 180k invested elites alone [Advanced Skill Hunter wee]. Never been very eager to get super gold stuff, so mostly collector gear with bought/salvaged mods on top. Prolly most valuable purchase I've made from other players has been Yakslapper for 10k back in the day, and only other gold weapon purchase (just for the skin) was my purrfect Righteous Maul, for something like 7k :\/

I got 60k in storage maybe 150k total if that. Probably made around 4 million in the game. But I spent it all on armors. I'm really lucky that's how i made that much, I don't overly farm at all just got really lucky.

This is my 1st and primary account, the 6th slot is reserved for PvP-only characters.
Have a 2nd account.

Wow so much money.....
I have trouble keeping my money at 1k, heck it's probably around 500gp right now. Though to be fair I'm pretty new and my first and only character is lvl 14 right now

me complaining in the UW because all the time I've played the game, I've never had a good drop, then suddenly

Around 2000k, 3 sets of 15ks on my Necro, 1 set of 15k on my Warrior, Kurzick 15k on my Assassin, mainly collector's weapons...
BTW I've never really farmed much, I only farm for the challenge.

well i have been playing for about 14 months now and the most money i have ever had at one time is about 100k. i dont do alot of farming, and every time i save up alot of money i end up finding something i want to buy. but now my warrior has the best weapon and shield i can have for him. it might not be the best for everyone but the build i run on him makes these 2 items perfect. and his 15k plate looks better then any 15k in factions. so maybe i can save some money now.

Hand of Ruin
About 650 hours of game play
650k in storage + 50e and 30~ shards
Two 15k sets on my warrior
Alas, the beauty of farming.

You won't have over 100k just from playing the game. I played the game for over a year and didn't. I never farmed, and I used to never have more than 20k. One day I got a lucky break, and Kanaxai's Axe dropped for me in The Deep (back when it was worth the most). I sold it and then I considered myself quite wealthy, although not compared to some farmers. But because I had the money (now over 100k), I could then afford to trade around a bit, buy other stuff, sell other stuff etc, and my money grows quite fast now.
A Factions player will have more money than a Prophecies player, for obvious reasons.
What the average player has depends on your definition of an average player, and I don't think anyone knows what this is. Probably a W/Mo who likes to take mending, and is stuck at THK.

What is considered average? Playtime? Experience?

50-75k here and thats with constant farming and chest drops.
Your average also depends on the actual playing time of the player. A once a weeker won't have nearly as much as a full timer... but I guess that should go without saying.

about a week ago, I had 5k, so in one week I got 55k, that's good, for me.

My first character through the game was always poor. Had to scrounge for that next set of armor and bought it a piece at a time when I could afford it.
Now, a little over a year later, with 7 PvE characters and some luck farming during the Wintersday event I have all seven decked out in 15K (each with superior vigor and superior absorbtion on warrior) with optimal weapons, lots of "stuff" in storage and a total of 300K cash.
But I don't consider myself "average".

the average player should have around 10-30k.... if they don't farm, buy/sell, or run players...
Sour Pancake
i have no idea how much i typically have, right now im at a little under 20k, but i have been over 800k like 3 months ago. i love my monk, so i buy her armor like, constantly. just got some black 15k canthan a week after i got teal 15k luxon. thats about 200k, spent 50k on pvp weapon sets for her. weapons for whatever.... keys for her title.... yea. very resource consuming but worth it in the end, i can farm 50k a day with her.

1 character with sorta half a 15k set, 3 characters with 1.5k sets, some other level 5-12's with meh. Only greens I have, I got for free for beating factions. I have about 3k in the storage. Most I ever had was 40k ish when amber was worth 3k apiece. Must be doin' something wong......

and let's not forget the 70k (approx) you spend on skills too per character. (That's for proph, I haven't figured out Factions skill cost totals yet)
Yes, I know 70k sounds too high but it's true

I'd like to see more statistics from ANet. Like how many characters have achieved each title, it would be interesting to see the percentage of the population with KOBD, Skill Hunter, 100% Exploration etc. And how many characters of each class. I think we'd be surprised to see how many monks there are. Or how many PvE mesmers.
