Just wondering how much RAM your GW client uses while running.

Mine seems really high, like 300 when looking at windows task manager...this seems high.

Also i seem really laggy, espcailly when loading up and walking around, though it does calm down after a while, this is very annoying and has just started to happen, i have the lastest video and sound drivers, and windoes updates.

System Spec.

AMD Sempron 2500+ Running at 1.75ghx
1.3gb RAM (512 + 512 +256)
Nvidia GeForce FX5600
Creative Soundblaster Live! Platinum 5.1

Internet Connection

1 mb ADSL ... 1024 upstream, 256 downstream

I thinking of de fragging my HDD and see if that helps, if not its going to have to be format and reinstall XP

220MB to startup. 300MB is not high for a game BTW. Wait until you play battlefield 2 or oblivion, you 1.3gb will shrink to nothing.

Try adding -pref to the GW shortcut on the desktop.
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -perf

This will give you your frame rate and internet speeds.

You're running an fx 5600, nuff said... I run between 300-500 MB with gw, Oblivion is around 900 MB. So yeah, do a clean defrag (turn off VM, setup a disk check, reboot, then defrag). But you're not going to get great frame rates from that card.

300MB for game is nothing at all. Hell, I play Battlefield 2 at maximum settings and that uses 1.5GB so I wouldn't get worried about Guild Wars using 300MB.

One other thing, it also depends on what flavour of RAM you have installed. Slower RAM will of course give you slower performance.

I would have thought a FX 5600 with 128mb would be quiet sufficent to run GW espically when the min. requirements are 32mb....also as my card runs cod, cod:uo, and cod:2 all at a comftable 60-90fps

As for RAM speed...im not sure, ill have to check it out, though i think its like 400mhz

Oh, it uses more than that. While it says 200-400 mb usage next to gw.exe, if you look at your available ram under the performance tab i guaruntee you it will be considerably less than (your available ram before starting gw) - (alleged gw.exe usage).

The amount of video RAM on your card doesn't have nearly as much to do with how fast it is as the power of the GPU does. The FX5600 is not a very fast GPU...you might get better framerates at a lower resolution with some settings turned down...if you do, it's your GPU. You're lucky Guild Wars can run DX8, 'cause the GeForce FX cards can't run DX9 very well at all.
