Nightfall- get crunk fizzy!

Seriously dont flame me for my lack of experience in middle-easter/african culture. Also keep in mind its a video game, not necessarily needing to be perfectly accurate to real-world history.


I want cactus juice. Peyote is not techniacally an all-out illegal narcotic/hallucinogen. Granted, its an american plant- but its usage in tribal culture is well known.

I dont want to go the distance and say they should implement 'hookahs' or 'tobacco smoking' (or worse) to promote any kind of teenage drugbingers... but it sure would be funny (quest for glory 2 anyone?) But how cool would it be to just be able to go to the Hookah Bar in some town, and simply pay 500g to get all crunked out. You use the activator (hookah) and then run around town like an idiot for five minutes.

Having an in-town 'bar' to get drunk would be really fun for some players. Everyone could hallucinate together.

But considering how exotic this new continent will be, Id like to be able to work on my drunkard title without having to drink that nasty hunters' ale all the time.


On a side note, you should get interrupted sometimes when your drunk. Nothing like stumbling around in a haze, eh?

I'm pretty sure Nightfall will have it's own version of alcohol, just like Factions did.

Personally, I prefer drinking in real life, but friends don't let friends PUG drunk.

Oh, and I don't think Guild Wars can show drug use without raising the game to Mature?

1. It's just a game.

2. It's a game that frequently hands out alcohol, and not only that, actually has a title for drunkedness!

3. Absinthe, an illegal substance in America at least, was already introduced.

Judging by the above, and some of the more suggestive dances, I don't think Anet is some sort of moral authority...

Lets see... I dont think grapes (wine) will be very plentiful in the desert. Cactuses ARE plentiful in the desert.

There are a 'select few' Native American tribes that still use this as a 'vision-quest'/ 'rite of passage' to this day... go wiki/google that one.

And despite what the teenagers are using hookahs for these days-> they are supposed to be used for Tobacco... and if you go to many big cities, you will find a hookah bar-> its just like a coffee bar just not necessarily geared towards star wars fans.

Uh, not all Africa is desert. I was looking for real-world inspiration. Obviously, Elona is made-up, and Anet can make their alcohol out of anything they want!

Id rather them not really go so far as to implement something that could promote cannabis smoking (or make it seem acceptable for the teens who play)... but a hookah bar would SO fit lol... and not all countries are as strict on laws about such things as America. Unfortunately, the people who decide the Ratings ARE in America.

I still want a bar in town, where you can straight up pay to get drunk-> it would be a fun diversion between missions when i feel the need to dance. maybe just one town even... endgame for that matter... (like Marhans Grotto- people just like to hang out, get drunk, and spam emotes- could use a bar imo)

Yeah, the ol' ESRB is a little messed. It's right in line with the American movie ratings, though. Of course, Canadian ratings are different. But unfortunately, not for video games.

As for drinking... well...

The ancient egyptians absolutely loved their beer. They had wine too, but it was beer that they loved. A lot of Nightfall appears to be influenced by that culture, so, hey. Brewski's up. Hell, the ancient Macedonians thought drunkenness was about as manly as you could get.

Other than alcohol... What other drugs have been historically available? Tobacco's native to the New World, so it'd be a little weird to see it in Nightfall. Technically, it's all made up anyway, so it wouldn't be wrong per se, but if it's based of Africa then there wouldn't be any. Opium didn't catch on until the late eighteenth/early nineteenth century, when people started smoking it too, but it's been used to some degree for thousands of years. Cocaine's new world... Cannabis's been around as long as opium... Barbiturates and LSD are way too modern...

Oh! I know! Caffeine's a big one, and since it's not actually illegal I predict we'll be able to buy coffee in Nightfall.

Mead! (Fermented honey/water, basically)

Simple to make, btw... you add honey and water, heat to a certain temperature for a certain period of time (forget the specifics, been a while), let cool to about 100 degrees, add yeast (champagne yeast deals with the higher alcohol nicely) and wait about a year, with occassional re-racking of the product.

It would be a crime for anything with a hint of Egyptian/North African roots to not have honey mead.

And let me tell you... it's a potent as it is smooth.

Would fit for promoting smoking? I dont think so. But I am severly dissapointed that anyone(not speaking of anyone in particular) can actually think that a game, televison show, or movie, by showing someone smoking, is actually saying"Hey! Look! This is something you should be doing! Its great!"
I mean, come on! Is anyone actually that stupid, that they would look at a show, and say, "Oh! That looks neat!"? Besides, theres already a reward for extreme drunkeness, but thats not promoting excessive real-life drinking(if it is, I cant see how), so I dont see a problem with the characters smoking or drinking, except from those wussies at the ESRB.

Again, typical American prudishness. We can show people being shot in GTA, but heaven forbid there's a sex mod (with clothes, mind you!).

Anyway, back on topic, Guild Wars already introduced Absinthe, also an illegal substance, so I hardly see the harm of a hookah, esp. if the developer says "oh, it's for tobacco! See, it's a coffee bar, we sell coffee to the players, too!"
