Rt/W Tank
RemusShepherd
I've been playing with this idea, and have the character up to 18th level now, although I don't have all the equipment he needs yet. It's obviously a PvE character -- I know very little about PvP, although the concept seems like it might work there.
The Ritualist Emissary's Armor is 60 AL with +15 AL when you are wearing a weapon spell. That's 75 AL -- 5 AL lower than a primary warrior. The weapon spell Vital Weapon costs 5e, has a duration of 30s and a recharge of only 20s, and gives +148 max health at Communing 12. It's a weapon spell, so it cannot be removed by any means.
So a primary ritualist can have 148-160+ health more than a warrior, and only 5 AL less. Take Warrior as your secondary and equip a shield and some good stances, and you're as good a tank as any warrior.
Why be primary ritualist? Because that communing attribute lets you start battles with some very useful spirits such as Union, Shelter, or Bloodsong, all of which are boosted with your Spawning power. And your 4 pips of energy regen will allow you to spam sword attacks much more than any warrior -- just make sure you have 5e every 20 seconds to refresh your Vital Weapon.
So I'm looking at something like this:
Rt/W
Communing: 14 (+1 rune, +1 headgear)
Spawning: 8 (+1 rune)
Tactics: 8
Swordmanship: 8
Vital Weapon
Seeking Blade
Final Thrust
Bonetti's Defense
Gladiator's Defense
Union
Shadowsong
Bloodsong
I have no idea what the best elite would be for this build yet, so I'm thinking Gladiator's Defense for now.
This character could not put out the damage that a pure warrior would, but he could be every bit as good of a tank. Of course, his kryptonite is someone interrupting his Vital Weapon. Any suggestions for making him better?

As far as I know, Warriors can have 100 AL from armor. And Endure Pain while only lasts 16 seconds, does grant more health.
Casting Spirits is very taxing for you, assuming you are using a shield and no weapon that gives you + energy.
Casting those spells takes time and Blood Song doesn't last too long, and Union and Shelter both will have their lives shorten each time enemies attempt to hit you.
Then trying to recast them in the middle of battle is very hazardous.
No self-healing? Where is the Rez and Healing Signet?
Auspicious Parry is an interesting elite.

You'll have 30 energy plus anything from your weapon. Your spirits total 40, plus 5 for your weapon spell. Yeah, maybe leave off Shadowsong, which only lasts 30 seconds. The other two last upwards of 2 minutes, so cast them before combat then wade in. Or use Attuned was Songkai as your elite. As for casting them during combat, you'd only do it if you have Gladiator's Defense up. For the first two minutes you're a better tank than any warrior.
Enduring Pain gives more health. But it only lasts 17 seconds with a 30 second recharge. Vital Weapon is permanent if reapplied -- 30 sec duration, 20 sec recharge.
Do warriors in PvE groups carry rez signets and self-heals? My W/E does not...but obviously I enjoy non-standard builds. Perhaps the lack of those things does exclude this guy from PvP.

My W/R uses Doylak Signet, Healing Signet, Watch Yourself, and I do have a Rez Signet. Usually because my healers die (for whatever reason) and I'm left in a field of bodies.
My Ritualist uses armor that gives me +15 AL per spirit I think. So I have 3 spirits up which would give me (max) 105 AL.
Granted, I'm a Rit/N, so I can't say I tank (even though I can continually give my Ritualist 3 spirits - now with Ritual Lord on a constant basis - especially since I can heal my spirits with Channelling).
I usually take at least 1 self heal, just incase.

Ritualist Tank setup:
+15AL with Weapon Spell
75 Base AL
Watch Yourself
95
Shield
111
111 AL vs All attack, thats not bad.
Attack skill will be the famous Sever Artery, Gash and Final Thrust. (Final Thrust can be swap out since you need Adren to keep Watch yourself up, or you use Final Thrust after Watch Yorself)
Dont bring Vengeful Weapon as that will cancel your AL bonus. Use Vital Weapon if Communing or Weapon of Warding or Resilient Weapon and bring Wielder's Boon
If you use Resilient Weapon, you will have +24 Armor as well as some Health Regen, But the effect is conditonal.
So skill set up
Sever Artery, Gash, Final Thrust, Resilient Weapon, Wilder's boon, Watch Yourself, Generous Was Tsungri and FoMF.
You might want to swap Generous with a Stance just incase or Bring both Weapon Spell if you wish.

Interesting concept, but you're definitely missing the additional armor against physical damage provided by ALL warrior armors. The base warrior armor against physical is 100 AL (80AL + 20 vs. Physical, etc).
You can get a bit closer by using the +15 AL weapon spell armor, plus Mighty Was Vorizun's +15 AL boost and you're looking at a nice 90 Armor level...which isn't too shabby.
Personally, I would still rather have a tank or utilize my Ritualist as a Vengeful build instead.

If you're carrying a shield in the first place, Mighty was Vorizun becomes somewhat redundant. You would only use that skill for the energy.

Sorry, my bad. Yeah, its +5 per spirit.
Oh yeah, I forgot the revision of the change to Physical attacks only.

extremely high dps vs melee.
enjoy.

anyone want to speculate on a rt/w using a candy cane axe ?
from what I see, the rt/w is kinda defensive (despite the lower armor) so pumping up a weapon skill might be pointless compared to the 'always 10 dmg' that a candy cane axe would do... Not counting the builds listed above with their sword skills that is...
i have a req 8 shield with -5 dmg (20%) for tactics and a candy cane axe...
what you guys think?
Im agreeing that spirit spamming is not the way to go, I plan on getting the "+AL while weapon spell" type armor. I want a weapon spell build.
I dont have enough skills yet, but here are some of the skills im thinking about:
vengeful was khanai/auspicious parry for elite (?)
nightmare weapon
wailing weapon
ancestral rage
...shout or stance?
...item spell?
-should I worry about axe (sword) skills at all?
this is set up with channeling 16, with tactics at lowest 8... although I realize that maybe restoration 16 might work better...
but the skills im going for are channeling, restoration, and tactics...
So the candy cane ritualist? Any takers?

i have a similar rt/w build to a comment above.
Profession: Ritualist/Warrior
Type: PvP
Category: Damage
Attributes:
Swordsmanship: 11
Tactics: 10
Restoration: 10 + 3 + 1
Armor:
Mystic's Body Armor(+15 armor while under effect of weapon)
Exalted Aegis (+16 Armor, +30 health, -5dmg received 20% chance)
(Ensure your energy is around 33)
Skill Set:
Seeking Blade (Swordsmanship)
Galrath Slash (Swordsmanship)
Distracting Blow (No Attribute)
Vengeful Weapon (Restoration)
Generous was Tsungrai (Restoration)
Auspicious Parry (Tactics) {Elite}
Sever Artery (Swordsmanship)
Healing Signet (Tactics)
Summary:
Since your target will pick you, use the time to get Vengeful Weapon on. Start off with Seeking Blade or Distracting Blow, and immediately turn on Auspicious Parry. Auspicious Parry and Vengeful Weapon should be your top priority. They have excellent recharge times as well as low cost. You'll either be blocking the attack and receiving adrenaline, or you'll have +15 armor and steal health. The rest of the attacking is unique to each situation, but try to save your Distracting Blow for things like Healing Signet. & When you use your own Healing Signet, use Auspicious Parry to avoid disruption.
By keeping your attacks going, parry up, and vengeful weapon whenever viable, your target usually falls due to stubborness. Surely, no ritualist can dominate the warrior at his own game. (lol) But if he's lived this long, Generous was Tsungrai will rid him of the hopes that he had been making progress.
Concerns:
This build requires that you are under attack to keep the adrenaline flowing in faster and the health-stealing coming in. Most melee will be more than willing to fight. The good thing about Vengeful Weapon is that it can't be pulled off and very unlikely to be interrupted. Auspicious Parry, a stance, can be turned on during knock-down combos and renews almost constantly. Would this be better as a primary warrior? Yes, but you won't get the eager targets running to you. & Vengeful Weapon spam would be less with fewer energy pips to feed it. But honestly, anything a ritualist can do, another profession can do better. The important thing is that this is like meleemancers with some defense, your main damage is actually vengeful weapon spam, not the sword attacks.
I recommend this to anyone who likes to constantly be busy. You're always able to do something.
If you need 'flesh of my flesh', swap it with galrath slash. Between healing signet and generous was.. you can also be an efficient in-battle resurrecter.

or you could just be an ele secondary and slap on armor of earth, +50(i think) al at 12 earth magic, like 41al at 8. Those numbers probably aren't right, but theyre close
Bloodied Blade
^^
I think you could do better with 16 earth, Sliver Armor, Armor of Earth, Aura of Restoration, Crystal Wave, Earth Attunement, CoP, Obsidian Flesh {e}, Res Sig. That would let you evade most attacks while Sliver Armor was up, get MASSIVE damage reduction from Armor of Earth + Ob Flesh. Get protection from spells with Ob Flesh, mobility from CoP when its needed, and AoE damage from Aftershock and Crystal Wave. You'll get healing from Aura of Restoration. You could also substitute Aura of Restoration for Orison of Healing or Healing Touch.
If you wanted to be a rit, just do something like:
Rt/E
Sliver Armor, Armor of Earth, Glyph of Lesser Energy, Glyph of Renewal {e}, Weapon of Warding, Aftershock, Crystal Wave, Res Sig/Flesh of my flesh
The idea is to use Glyph of Renewal for a very long Sliver Armor or a double-Aftershock. Glyph of Lesser Energy lets you use Crystal Wave for free (actually 5e, since you had to use the Glyph). Just try to keep up Sliver Armor + Armor of Earth, using Weapon of Warding as you see fit and you shouldn't get hit often or take much damage.

i was thinking of trying a vengeful tank
vengeful weapon
weapon of shadow/weapon of warding
splinter weapon
triple chop
cyclone axe
weilders boon
brutal weapon
opt
iono jus a thought
spirits slow down ne tanking capabilities. however if u cast a union or shelter b4 entering battle for an early edge to gain an advantage thats not to bad.

Vengeful tanking is fun in pvp. I owned some warriors while just tapping the 2 key over and over. Guess they never noticed they were losing 63 health each time they hit me with vengeful on.
The +15 weapon spell armor helps a lot, combined with a shield and Watch Yourself! gives pretty decent armor to tank. I was also using the weapon spell which guarantees your attacks don't get blocked/evaded, can't remember it right now, for when I came across monks and wanted to adrenaline strike.

You get +15 armor from the Rit's Mystic armor set. So Rt/E is always going to be better than E/Rt as a tank.
But I would like to use some spirits. They really help defense, also.
My Rt/W is mostly operating as a Rit until I get some primo items. I have a defensive build for him, but I've found that when I gear for defense that's *all* I can do. Damage output is marginal. I'm hoping that a good shield and a +5 energy sword will help.
