The first number is the level in an attribute, the second number means they have a +1 from headgear, the last number represents the Rune level (1 = Minor, 3 = Superior)

Ah I see. How do you know it's +1 from headgear again? And not from another armor piece? It's been a long long time, sorry

The headgear is the only piece of armor that has an inherent +1 to an attribute.

Yep. If there are ever 3 numbers like that, then one of them will be +1 and that will come from the headgear. So, if there were only 2 numbers then there isn't any headgear but there is a rune. So...

8 + 1 would mean they have a level of 8 in the base attribute and a +1 from a Minor rune of the same attribute.

Since Minor, Major, and Superior Runes never change how much of a bonus they get, then it's pretty simple to remember which ones do what. Just check in game with a Rune vendor and you can see what the bonuses are for each level of rune in case you can't remember.
