Why would someone believe such a thing?
Why would NC Soft can its newly knighted "bread and butter"?
BTW I read this rumor when I stumbled upon the post in a Gamespot Guild Wars forum while doing a search on Google. There were some basic complaints that the graphics engine was getting old? Even when its continually tweaked by the cofounder of ANET, who BTW coded it with his two hands.
Why would anyone care to start a rumor so obvious?
Rumor Mill: GW: Nightfall is the last of the series?

No one ever got rich working at a rumor mill.
That said, we know for a fact that C4 is being worked on. See http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Campaign_Four
Now it might be that GWN will be the last GW where our old Tyrian characters can still visit. C4 can easily be the next step in the evolution of the game, with new mechanics and even a new genre. Think Warcraft to World of Warcraft.
Or maybe it will be Guild Wars In Space... With Leprechauns!
You have to agree, that would be one sweet game.

I doubt that A-Net would ever make it impossible for one character to not enter a new chapter. I know that A-Net was a bit surprised that people did not want to give up on their characters (there is a comment somewhere from a Developer stating this) but i'm sure they've learned from that and will never go as far as to force players to delete their old characters.
As for new chapters, i'm quite sure that they will increase in "magic and tech level" with each chapter coming out. This basically means:
Chapter 1 had not too much of magic and technology. Yes everyone is a caster of some sort, but still. If you look at the landscape everything is quite normal.
Chapter 2 had whole landscapes being enchanted by a curse
Chapter 3 will probably suffer from an enormous outbreak of "Darkness". The same that happened to the Tombs. Yet another increase.
Chapter 4... who knows?
Somewhere along the chapters i'm quite sure we'll see some underwater Palaces, some floating castles. A whole flying continent and as everyone of these things gets used, the next step has to be more fantastic, more colorful than the one before. Even if this includes meeting a space travelling race and such. Doing dimensional shifts or maybe planetary ships (maybe sailing in some kind of magic space bark to beat the evil Mursaat/Forgotten where they came from) etc etc etc

As far as I know, this rumor was started by one of the previews stating that this would be the last of a three-part storyline. Hinting that the controlling evil behind Prophecies and Factions would finally be met in Nightfall. If you're read the Lore forums on GWGuru or GWOnline, you'd see that everyone believes it to be Dhuum, and that in Nightfall we'll finally defeat him and find out that he was behind the Charr, the Titans, the Lich, Shiro, etc. Thus the end of this 3-part storyline.
This could also mean the end of us following around Mhenlo, Aiden, Devona, Cynn, etc. And with Chapter 4, we may find a new group of NPCs to follow around on some exciting new adventure with a new evil to confront.

I agree that this rumour is probably as much rubbish as the most rumors out there, but I think Vilaptca's idea sounds quite reasonable. After those all-familiar 'Chaos Sparks' (or what were they called) also appeared in the "Day of the Dragon" event, it's probably just about time to finally tell us what the deal with those thingies is; and the fact that we seem to be about to being informed of what happened to the Tombs also might speak to this theory! I hope that it's something more interesting that "An evil entity we didn't know of before created and controlled them to gain power". Well, we will see...

Perhaps itll open some final quest arc in the UW, after Restoring the Monuments, where you party up with a Firestorm-slinging Gwen *OHGODMOMMYITBURNSMAKEITSTOPAHHHH*, open the big-shiny-mystery gates before engaging Dhuum himself... fun.
grrr i hate rummors, i know all about them, if its not by anet, then its not to be beleived. As for monsters go, they can keep on going with new ones. I mean they can also bring in new hench to help the story line and other ideas. Hell we don't even know what to expect in Nightfall at this point.

But I thought that the original NPCs were the stars of the Guild Wars world?
Not including the originals would be like spinning off the series into another like Law & Order or something.

Well with Windows Vista around the corner i can see why people started this rumor. DX10 etc cannot be ran from DX9 hardware. But if Anet were to make chapter 4 DX10 only that would be seriously stupid. Jan 30 is release date for Windows Vista according to Amazon pre orders. If Anet is to make chapter 4 DX10 they will need a DX9 version as well. This is what companies like Flagship is doing with Hellgate London.

I was able to run Guild Wars on Vistia Beta 2 and RC 1. As long as GW can fall back go DX 9, they could make a dx 10 version and xp/2k can fall back to DX 9.
Same way that GW now runs on DX9 but can fall back to DX8 for older video cards. I do see GW being a Windows 2k-XP / Vistia for a long time to come.
Hellgate London and several other "Exclusive Vistia" games are nothing more then video games that ONLY support DX 10 / aka Windows Vistia by design to try and push Vistia. GW is not one of the "exclusive" to Vistia games.

So Guild Wars will run just fine on Vista using the DX9 renderer. Eventually they will add DX10 support.
(Vistia?)
Maybe they will start working on Guild Wars 2?
Or maybe its some kind of internal conflic... with one employee stealing too much office supplies?
Mac GW?
Faulty Product that need to be Recalled?
no.. don't really see how it could be possible to stop making more GW chapters... atlest chapter 3 shouldn't really be the last.

Everyone misunderstood what i said...its ok usually happens. I never said GW wouldnt run in windows Vista. What i did say is that if they made a DX10 version they would have to make a DX9 version as well or it would be a bad move. I know GW runs in vista im runnin it in Vista RC1 as we speak.
