POLL
This whole fact comes from the local charity work ive been doing, collecting Jade bracelets and using them to get newbies new chest armour...It isnt much but it makes me happy..
Now the point of this is that out of each group of 8 ive taken about 7 will drop out as soon as I hit the bazaar thinking its some sort of scam, if i get a group of 8. thats only 12.5% of people trusting me so far. I then ask these people did they know armour is non-tradable only about 1/4 do (being fresh off shing jea)...thats it down to 3.125% (not knowing isnt true trust after all)...about 1/6 of them will try to exploit my charity and ask for more, lets exclude them that leaves us with 2.604166666666666666666666666667% let play the rounding game and call that 2.6%
so heres the fact...Charity is hard if only 2 out of every 100 people trust you enough to help them....I know the topic is trading armour but even after i explain the process i still get very few.... Now a few questions to finish off, please be honest
1.You find someone offering free collectors armour you are wearing Shing Jea, do you take it?
2.You find someone offering free collectors armour you are wearing better but identical armour, do you take it?
3.Someone tries to sell Black dye for 500 gold do you a.ignore it b.Buy it C.warn them
4.You are 50/50ing the UW then 1 group of smites drop 3 ectos for you , rightfully 1 of them is your partners, do they get it?
5.Have you ever sold an item for more than its worth beacuse you know you'll get away with it?
6.Have you ever pulled a scam? (no details please, and im talking soft scamming)
7.Have you ever been scammed
8. Someone agrees to buy the item you're selling, but in the trade window offers more money than agreed upon. Do you a) Point the sum out to them before accepting, just to make sure, b) Accept, but repay the difference if they bring it up to you after the transaction, c) Accept, with no intention of repaying the difference if it was a mistake?
9. Simply, Trust runners?
10. In RL have you ever won anything?
I just to judge how people trust these dark days

Some people find charities too good to be true and believe there is some sort of scam involved that people are actually being nice. It's kind of a shame that it has come down to that. If someone was offering to help me with something like that, I'd take that and then return the favor later.
Keep up being helpful- while you may only have about 1 or 2 people trusting you per run, at least you're making them happy.

No
Trust needs to be earned not freely given.
I would wonder what you was up to if i was a newbie and you was offering me free help. In many respects this is just like a real life situation. If someone offered to carry the shopping would you except? I bet 99% of ppl would say no
Distrusting stangers is built into us from an early age

Mail-In Rebates for example. The company promises you your cash back if you invest in their product. But the problem with that is, once they have your money the deal is done. For the typical rebate return would take several weeks, and even after months they fail to send it regardless of how accurate you followed directions for a rebate. You have been officially scammed. Companies have been sued for this scamming. The Lesson: Don't trust rebates.
But that is one of MANY, many more scams on all levels of modern life.
It takes about a week of just playing the game (no farming) to build up the resources for 1.5k armor, which is more effective than collector armor (collector armor not having any bonuses to it.) There isn't any particular point to giving collector's armor to new people except as a temporary situation.
1. No.
2. No for the reasons above.
3. C. If he insists on still selling (which has happened before to me) then B.
4. Yes. Then again I'd be with a guildie.
5. Worth is relative, so no.
6. No.
7. Attempted but failed.

5. How overpriced? I've played other games where I actually tried 'playing' the market. Generally, it doesn't pay to price your items obscenely high on the off chance that someone buys it out of ignorance. The extra time it takes to sell, the longer you go without additional funds for buying-selling.

Most ppl try to play the buy/sell game but they only do it on a small scale
buy for 20 sell for 30..Zzz I'd never buy to resell unless i knew that there was 90% chance i could atleast double my original investment.
Mr G, you will find most of your poll results are very similar, distrust is safer then trusting someone and in many cases is mostly justified.
1.You find someone offering free collectors armour you are wearing Shing Jea, do you take it? No, because it's not my first character and I don't know them.
2.You find someone offering free collectors armour you are wearing better but identical armour, do you take it? No, why take something you already have?
3.Someone tries to sell Black dye for 500 gold do you a.ignore it b.Buy it C.warn them a) ignore them along with all the other trade
4.You are 50/50ing the UW then 1 group of smites drop 3 ectos for you , rightfully 1 of them is your partners, do they get it? Yes. But then, I don't farm there much and if I do, it's with friends.
5.Have you ever sold an item for more than its worth beacuse you know you'll get away with it? No, though I was pleasently suprised when someone offered 75k for an item I thought would only get 1k
6.Have you ever pulled a scam? (no details please, and im talking soft scamming) Nah, stupid morals won't let me
7.Have you ever been scammed? Yes, then wondered why the person responsible couldn't be whispered to tell him/her they did a good job.
Ok, so that's how I see things. One of the nicest things I've seen was when my son (10yrs) took a day off sick (from school) and decided to play his rit. When my partner found out that my son's rit was wearing non-max armor in keineng city, he decided to help and my son is now very proud of his collectors armor he got on that day
So, most likely, a guildy who's new to the game will appreciate the offer for free armor more than a random stranger.

TBH, their loss. If they don't want to risk their possessions for trust, so be it. It's a nice thing you're doing despite the obvious problems.
In all honesty though, I'm a proud player. I like to play things out for myself and learn to do things myself. THEN later on, take advice from others. Thus, charity imo really isn't worth it as most will either exploit you or just plain not trust you.
I suppose the 2% that follow through with you might be worth it, but not so in my book.

1. No, I earn mine.
2. No, too much hassle.
3. Depends on my mood and the person's method.
4. I keep my words.
5. No, too much time investment in finding a buyer that dumb.
6. No, I hate injustice + I hate using time to make this little money + I just want to play a freaking game.
7. If I really do get scammed, I really shouldn't know. I rarely search for trade (do my own finding), and if I do trade, I would know all about the item I want. Chances are highly unlikely to near impossible.

I assume the OP was refering to people knowingly overpricing their items (which could be percieved as borderline scamming), which is why I explained how it isn't a particularly time-efficient way to make a profit anyway.
I disagree that most people don't trust each other in real life. You are supposed to not trust anyone online, so the atmosphere is one of mistrust right from the start.
I don't know how many times the news does experiments to see how much trust is out there and most people do the trustworthy thing. Of course, there's always someone who keeps the staged wallet dropped or the newspaper table where you pay based on the honor system and they take all the papers.
I don't think this game is any indicator of trust in rl.

So, I'm supposed to just suddenly trust a guy that I can only see a made up avatar of? The person could EASILY fake practially anything.
I could long on and suddenly claim that I am a 12 year old girl who lives in Russia. None of this would be true, but who in game would be able to prove otherwise?
The thing is, you can't fully trust someone who you never actually see. For most people, seeing is believing.

I would fall into the category of non-trusting, but innocent. I think Arturo02 hit it on the head about the anonymity of the internet creating an atmosphere of mistrust. In real life, I can pre-judge a million things about a person before words are even spoken, allowing for the ability to rely on my intuition. You have none of that on-line.
Just be smart, and not gullible. When GI Joe said "Knowing is half the battle!", I think this is what they were talking about. Educate yourself on something before jumping into it head first.
If you don't know how much you should sell that little Black Dye in your inventory for, ask around. If it seems everyone is too eager to buy it off you for 1k, 500g, 1.5k, and 200g, then check online. You'll find your answer soon enough, and you'll learn a little something, too.
As for my answers:
1.You find someone offering free collectors armour you are wearing Shing Jea, do you take it?
I wouldn't now, no reason. If I was a newbie, and someone was giving me something for free, sure, I'd take it.
2.You find someone offering free collectors armour you are wearing better but identical armour, do you take it?
Don't see the point of this. But no.
3.Someone tries to sell Black dye for 500 gold do you A.ignore it B.Buy it C.warn them?
If I noticed it, and had the time to give a damn, C.
4.You are 50/50ing the UW then 1 group of smites drop 3 ectos for you , rightfully 1 of them is your partners, do they get it?
Sure, but again, I'd only 50/50 with someone I truly trusted, probably from RL.
5.Have you ever sold an item for more than its worth beacuse you know you'll get away with it?
Yes, but not to 'scam', just to make as much as I could.
6.Have you ever pulled a scam? (no details please, and im talking soft scamming)
No, and I don't intend to.
7.Have you ever been scammed?
No, and I don't intend to.

1. No.
2. No, it's a waste of my time.
3. I warn them, tactfully. I'll PM them saying something along the lines of "Did you know....?" I aslo warn everyone in Pre-searing when I see people trying to BUY it for that (or less).
4. A deal's a deal. I pass it on to them.
5. No.
6. No.
7. Once - but for a piddly amount. I have had several goofballs try since, but no luck for them. 99% of all the trading I've done since release has been with honest people.
Have y'all been taught not to talk to strangers when you were little? Well now that you're older (by however much), you'll find out why your folks gave you that admonishment. Keep it in mind when dealing with people you don't know. For many people, it's easier for you to keep them honest than it is for them to keep themselves honest.
